Well last night was a real break through for my personal cycling career, and i feel like sharing it with you guys I'll start with the basics though!
I've been cycling regularly for 3 years (since my dad took me to france to see the tour), I own a Ribble race bike (that I got last year for my 21st) but I had only ever cycled on my own or with my dad. Then this summer I started going to a few of his club meetings and doing the training rides. Me and my Dad also did the Caledonian etape in June, the first ever closed-roads race open to the public here in the UK. It was 83 miles of pure rolling terrain, but I did ok, coming in 495th out of 1500, and I was 31st in my age category. My Dad, however, beat me by 20 minutes and has never let me forget it
Last night though, I got sweet sweet revenge. I joined his club to allow me to take part in the club 10 mile TT (had to join for insurance purposes apparently). I was a bit nervous, but I do 90% of my riding alone anyway, so that didn't bother me. I was second off because my dad expected me to come last or second last, not expecting me to beat 30 minutes because the course was rolling with a few sapping climbs. However, I've been practicising my TT technique over the last week, and was determined to not be last on my first event...and I wasn't! Came in 4th (out of 8) with a time of 28:48, 3 minutes off the leader! My Dad was second last, coming in at 30:31. Justice at last! |

its a scary thought, crashing. I have been lucky so far in my racing career, but they say you're not a complete rider till you fall off! does it make you a better rider because you know your limits? I know i'm pushing too hard if I start wobbling!
on another note, I beat my previous 10 mile TT time, new time is 27:58 but i'd love to beat 26 minutes. anyone got any tips for me? |

I remember I did a duathalon (swim and run) when I was about 11, and my dad told me to push as hard as I could in the pool - I went too hard, cos I came out the pool dizzy and could hardly run in a straight line! I was so dizzy during the changeover though that it took me 5 minutes to put on my running shoes! |

I once took part in a mini-triathlon. Came in 2nd in the swimming, but the guy who "won" that discipline was far ahead - luckily, I had a good bike, but he did gave quite a large gap to me. When I was getting closer (couldn't see him, but I was told that it was just a matter of seconds) I was somehow directed the wrong way and ended on a very stupid and windy road. I got back on track when I saw some of the others who were ibehind me. I had to speed up and when we got to the running part I simply had no power left because I had spent all my energy on the stupid windy road which wasn't even a part of the route I ran in a nice tempo to begin with, we catched the guy in front, and I and another guy dropped the 4 others. We were catched again, and then I just stopped. Didn't have more energy
It was such a blow to me. It was my first mini-triathlon, I had trained for it and I had high expectations. |

More groundbeaking is training hard for an event and then coming late for it... 3 days. |
