After this, I'm really curious about what can Matthews do as the leader of Orica in the Tour. Really spetacular how he closed the gap on the trio.

Damn, that gap by Ulissi. Great performance, perfect hillfinish for him though.
Purito with a good lead but last meters wern't too steep, gave them time to come back when he started to talk to Arredondo, who thought it'd be enough to just hang on. Still not in absolute top-form. I think the hill-finish in one or two(?) stages should suit him better.

Man of the stage: Matthews, the way he closed that gap was very impressive! |

Great win for Ulissi, not entirely surprised to be honest the way he has been going since autumn one days last year, Boasson Hagen was in great position but just exploded. |

He might come good in the 3rd week as he is still building from the crash in the Ardenne, Evans needs these seconds as I see him fading in that 3rd week

Pozzovivo did well to scrape into the top 10 there.

Julian Arredondo reportedly targeting tomorrow's sixth stage to Montecassino. Which given the gradients may suit him again if he can time his kick, as always preview to follow soon.

The losers&disappointments of today:
Thomas de Gendt: loses over 6 minutes
Yukiya Arashiro: Can't confirm earlier strong results and loses more than 10 minutes.
Igor Antón: Loses 9 minutes
Nathan Haas: Good results earlier on prove nothing. Last at 17min31.
Surprises of today:
Georg Preidler: Another talent for Giant?
Pozzovivo: Despite missing the cut and a big effort to come back a 9th place.
Your thoughts?

Biggest surprise: Basso, Cunego, and Scarponi didn't lose any time.

Preidler was really good in last year's Vuelta aswell, I for one expected him to be in this group still. |

@Selwink:
Arashiro fell.
Anton was hjeld up by a fall.
De Gendt is a pure domestique for Uran. He has been seen pulling the peloton already a lot this week.

I really wonder what Tim Wellens will do in this Giro. Today he was still in the front group, that's pretty good! |

Yes, he has done quite a good Vuelta last year with several breakaways. Still, finishing 16th against such competition and to not lose time, that's quite surprising, so I'm with Selwink there. On the other hand, Zoidl lost some time already for example.
Pozzovivo is really strong this season, maybe quite the rider to best match Quintana and Purito in the mountains but we'll see that when they'll arrive.
