Not really news but just noticed that Slagter is the first Dutch rider ever to lead the World Tour Rankings lol, but the glory of that kinda fades when you know it's after the first wt race of the season and that race is 'just' the TDU
still nice for slagter though haha. He's also the first dutch leader of the CQ ranking ever |

Right now CWO/Michael Rasmussen are holding press conference.
I will update this post with what is being said.
Team owner Claus Hembo:
CWO is clean, they believe the peloton is still highly doped.
Want to be in front when cleaning the system.
Michael Rasmussen was highly talented but then he fell in and was doping through the years 1998-2010.
Michael Rasmussen has already told the doping authorities everything (including names).
Both Michael and the other management have enforced that CWO is a clean team.
Christina Hembo:
Michael have told everything and it will change cycling forever.
Parents can in the future be proud to send their children to a cycling club and fans will not have to fear that their heroes are cheating.
Claus Hembo:
Possibility for amnesti for riders who help to clean the sport - big help in the future, but MR's story is not free.
He will stop cycling immediately. He will completely leave the team, but will return as DS when hie quarentine is over.
The sponsors are not going anywhere, and is supporting MR's effort to clean up cycling.
Michael Rasmussen:
Collaborating with Danish, Dutch and American doping authorities and WADA.
Have used a bunch of different drugs. The authorities have been told all details.
I know I have lied and cheated also to other athletes, and I am sorry for that.
I'm happy to stop lying when you ask me about my past.
Thanks to the fans and thanks to the press for coming.
No further comments today from Christina Hembo and Michael Rasmussen.
So: No surprises in the revelations, but I'm really looking forward to see what the complete revelations include. Perhaps we can now finally get the sport cleaned when the authorities get to know all the details.
The doping authorities have called to a press conference later today which might shed more light on what the agreement consist of

Well the interesting part is not that he doped - the interesting is who he will pull down with him...

It is also interesting to note that he has cooperated with several authorities, meaning that we could see some investigations going on with his information in several different places at once.

From the Danish Anti Doping Agencys press conference
Danish Antidoping Agency confirm that MR has given them valuable information also about other people than himself. They will not reveal further details at this time but it includes both other riders and staff.
Michael Rasmussen will get a two-year quarantine from cycling since he approached the authorities himself and has given substantial information for further investigations.
The information will lead to continued investigations in both the Danish and other doping agencies.
They have been affected by what they have heard from MR aka it's worse/bigger than they thought!
Interviews with MR indicate that things got even worse after Festina, but that it has been harder within the last 4-5 years.

Maybe I'm just showing my ignorance again, but I thought the only two options were 6 months ban if acciedental (I fell on the needle) or 2 years? How did he get 1 year?
Xipamide isn't banned by WADA, afaik.
I think that's why. It's obviously still wrong to give him just one year, but nothing to do about it.

If he really has told everything, it'll finally be the end of Riis Cycling
The preceding post is ISSO 9001 certified

With Rasmussen having admitted that he was a doper, we have now clear evidence that doping makes your time trial abilities even worse

Not if you dope enough:

Damn. Doping definitely doesn't make you a faster poster.

Danish Television (TV2) has just had a exclusive interview with Michael Rasmussen but it was only about his feelings and nothing about other riders, sport directors etc. So there is not that much to say after this interview.

I think what Rasmussen is doing is way better than most dopers. It really sounds like he is telling everything to the appropriate authorities, instead of throwing random names at the press for attention, like Hamilton and Kohl or keeping quite like Riis and the other Telekom riders who confessed.
Hopefully this is a step in the right direction, and will help cycling become clean in general and not just destroy danish cycling, which is probably more likely.

It was interesting to hear why he continued to dope after his first suspension, though.
"I was convinced any team would want to sign one of the best climbers in the world. I was sure I was capable of winning the Vuelta that year" (not exact quotes, just how I remember them).
But it seems we're not going to get any names soon. If we do, it's when ADD / DCU issues bans for riders ... which I suppose is difficult if all they have is Rasmussen's testimony. Even if Rasmussen has named doctors, riders, team owners etc (which I believe he has), that may help when it comes to the future, but how it will bring e.g. Nicki Sørensen down, I don't know. |

He also talked to dutch doping authorities and told them names and how they evaded getting caught. Thomas Dekker is also talking this week to the authorities, he will also name everyone and everything involved..
I wonder how long especially E.Dekker can hold on he used nothing, since he's still a DS at blanco... |

I don't think telling names can be used as a proof, no matter how sincere M.R. might be.
It could only lead to authorities questioning the persons, and more controls being targeted on them, but hardly anything more, I reckon. |
