I'm more impressed with them beating Engoulvent, he has won quite a few prolougues. Especially Sergent beating him by 19 seconds. Lots of youngsters performing well these days, sprinters and time trialists. Gonna be interesting to see how Gretsch, Oliveira and Sergent will improve this year.

As the first Murcia stage finished in a sprint I expected all favourites to have the same time. But actually there were some time gaps.

Cobo Acebo s.t
Contador +2
Menchov +2
Thomas Danielson +18
Christian Vandevelde +31
Igor Anton +34
Carlos Sastre +34
Dave Zabriskie +37

So obviously not the best day for Garmin-Cervelo espcially as the course isn`t very hard and the time trial could be very important as also last year.

As there are no videos on youtube I don`t know why there were that many gaps.

I think there were crashes on the stage - Froome crashed towards the end on the sky website and there was an earlier one. Vandevelde + Anton = crashes Pfft

Here is what Knaven (Sky DS said):

He took a crashing fall after doing his turn on the front, with Sports Director Servais Knaven telling us: "Chris crashed with 800 metres to go. He was part of the lead-out train and did his job but when he swung off someone hit him from behind.

"It didn't look that good at first but after the race we made sure nothing was broken and it seems like he can start tomorrow but we'll obviously have to wait and see how he is in the morning."

That apart the lead-out went very much to plan, with Knaven full of praise for his squad: "Alex Dowsett did a great job after Chris swung out, he took the guys through the two left-hand corners 500m and 400m from the finish.

"After that Russ took over and he was waiting but Davide couldn't quite follow his wheel and Michael Matthews came from behind to take the win.

"The team did brilliantly today though," added Knaven. "They worked really well together. Lars-Petter (Nordhaug) was on the front all day to chase the break down with Rabobank and Saxo Bank so he did a hell of a job and was still there at the end while all the others supported Russ and Davide."

Climbing into contention

There had been an earlier crash involving Morris Possoni but the Italian was soon back on his bike and battled back with help from compatriot Dario Cioni to put himself in a good position for Saturday's penultimate stage which will favour the climbers.

"Morris was uninjured and with help from Dario he did really well to make that front group," explained Knaven. "There are some GC riders who lost time today - every second will count and we will support him in tomorrow's mountain stage."

Thanks for this information. But still a pity that there are already that much gaps. So it might be a battle just between Menchov and Contador as I don`t think that you can attack successful on the climb. To short and 8km downhill afterwards.

I didn`t expect that much selection actually. But this will become a very close finish tomorrow between the top 3.

My bet is on Menchov. 5sek on 12km is not very much

@PremierRus91: What the hell are you trying to say ?
