Great to see you motivated to play on..
Good luck with Sastre..and keep cool with Haedo..(dont push him over the limits at the alps..just inside time limit is enough)..and you will get much sharper sprinter for next sprint period..(works for me)..
Sry about complaining..I am hungry to start new season..(even has choosen team)..but we are still short for decent 08 db...(I would accept ok stats..and tranfers)

I doubt that picture is from le tour, bettini usually rides it.
Good result in the first mountain stage, keep it up

July 15: Le Tour de France – Stage 8 | Le-Grand-Bornand > Tignes – 165 km
Stage Profile
6 mountains are on today’s programme. The first three of them shouldn’t present any real difficulties for the peloton, but after the Col de Tamie the riders have to climb no less than three 1st category climbs starting with Cormet de Roselend with its 19 kilometres and an average slope of 6% we could see a lot of riders falling off the back already here. The ones that survive will have to hang in there on the 15,3 km and 4,7% Montée d’Hauteville. After descending this the riders will hit the final climb of the day, the Montée Tignes on the top of which the finish line is. It’s 17,9 kilometres and has a gradient of 5,5%.
There were a lot of attacks right from the outset and we had Vandevelde trying to break clear. He did get away with a strong group at the top of one of the smaller climbs, but unfortuneately Yaroslav Popovych was also in the group and as Caisse d’Epargne didn’t wanted him to be ahead they reeled it back in again. On Col de Tamié, Voigt attack for some mountain points and he also managed to snatch all 20 of them. He, Simoni and Popovych got a gap to the pack. Simoni would drop back, but for some reason Popovych and Voigt was allowed to go on.
Caisse d’Epargne was in charge today and they would let Jens Voigt and Yaroslav Popovych break away, while they protected Valverde.
On Cormet de Roselend things started happening. The pack upped the pace on the climb as the gap was around 7 minutes. But a lot of riders weren’t ready for this pace increase by the Spanish team meaning a small and exclusive group would go clear of the pack. Sastre was almost caught in the pack but he managed to solo his way up to the group, which consisted of 8 riders. They were Valverde, Lopez Garcia, Efimkin, Klöden, Colom, Sastre, Moreau and Simoni. Their gap to the pack in which riders like Evans, Menchov, Leipheimer and Fothen were increased throughout the duration of the climb and at the top things looked like this: Voigt and Popovych lead the Valverde-Group by 5 minutes and the Valverde-Group leads the pack by 2 minutes. Evans and Menchov tried a late attack on Cormet de Roselend but they were both reeled in again. This could turn ugly for the guys stranded in the pack.
Voigt and Popovych on an impossible mission today while a very strong group of climbers formed behind them.
Things turned even more electric on Montée d’Hauteville, where Andreas Klöden attacked with some 8 kilometres to the summit. Valverde, Sastre, Simoni and Moreau tried to counter but none could follow the German! Sastre and Valverde did join up behind and starting chasing him. Meanwhile the pace was also high in the pack and Leipheimer, Menchov, Horner, Evans, Garate and Menchov got clear.
Astana Captain Andreas Klöden showed showcased climbing abilities no one though he had, leaving Valverde and Sastre in his wake.
Voigt and Popovych had maintained a slim advantage at the summit of Montée d’Hauteville and they remained ahead at the foot of Montée de Tignes. But Klöden was coming up on them fast. He worked his way steadily up to them and caught them with about 12 kilometres to the top and he dropped them almost instantly. It didn’t take long before the a group with Valverde, Sastre, Moreau and Leipheimer, who had worked his way up after a phenomenal ride, raced by Voigt aswell. Valverde tried to attack with about 7 kilometres to go but Sastre, who again wasn’t feeling very good, reeled him back in, towing Leipheimer and Moreau.
Klöden on his own on Montée de Tignes. Can the German pull off a very surprising win and maybe even claim the yellow jersey?
Despite not feeling very well Sastre was going faster than Klöden as he seemed to be the strongest in the chasing group. He was gaining on him. But he wasn’t going to do all the work so he dropped back, meaning Klöden got a breather for a while. But none of the others, not even Valverde himself would take the initiative, so Sastre had to do the working. With 2 kilometres to go the gap was 40 seconds, meaning Klöden would win the yellow jersey if Valverde didn’t finish in the top 3.
Klöden was going to win but the back had come down a bit towards the end and as Valverde just managed to outsprint Carlos he would retain the jersey with a minor 5 seconds.
Andreas Klöden takes victory at the top of Montée de Tignes he puts pressure on Valverde in the GC.
Despite Carlos not feeling very good on the day he managed to come away with another very useful result and the way I see he is definitely the most consistent climber in the top ten right now. Unfortuneately Frank isn’t as good as we’d hoped for and he only occupies 18th in the GC after today’s stage. Tomorrow is the first rest day of the Tour before we hit the last stage in the Alps, where the stage end with the almost classic finish in Briancon.

Thats what makes this Tour with CSC so exciting, you know that you're going to need a gap in the mountains because you'll lose time in the TTs...Keep it going Sastre! |

ya Klödi ftw .. na to be honest it's definately harder to win the tour with a good climber than with a good climber AND time trial rider so GO SASTRE

July 17: Le Tour de France – Stage 9 | Val-d’Isere > Briancon – 159,5 km
Stage Profile
After the rest day we’re back on the road with the Alps looming ahead of us. Today’s stage features two hors category climbs including the mythical Col de Galibier and Col d’Iseran. The riders start the ascend to the Col d’Iseran almost instantly and after descending this it’s up the only non-hors category climb of the day, the Col du Telegraphe will feature as an appetizer for the last climb, the Galibier.
Dejavú from the previous stage as Popovych and Voigt got away from the pack at the Iseran and led the pack by 4 minutes at the top, where Voigt secured all 40 points to increase his lead in the fight for the polka dots. Surely he is the favourite to claim that jersey right now.
Jens Voigt and Yaroslav Popovych were yet again active as they decided to attack from the outset on the 9th stage.
The pack increased the pace in the valley ahead of the Telegraphe and the gap came down as Caisse d’Epargne led the pack up this 12 kilometres, 6,7% climb. Because of the high pace, Caisse domestiques Efimkin and López Garcia teared a group of 26 riders off the pack as they crossed the summit of the Télégraphe, with only a few kilometres of descending before the Galibier. All of the top ten riders were present, so no high drama yet. But soon there will be I’m sure.
The pack shrunk to just 26 riders, where 7 of them had to let go after a few kilometres on the Galibier, meaning the group was cut to just 19 riders.
At the foot of the Galibier, Voigt and Popovych had 5 minutes on the pack, but surely it would come down quickly here. So far Karpets, who before today was 12th in the GC, is the biggest casualty as he was dropped instantly on the Galibier. The group of 19 shrunk further to 12 riders with 9 kilometres to the top. At this point Popovych was exhausted and Voigt soloed away to try and catch all 40 points at the top, but the group of favourites were just 2’30” down. Among the 7 dropped from the group was Levi Leipheimer. It has really been an awful Tour de France for the American.
With 8 kilometres to the top the yellow jersey attacked! Sastre countered, but Klöden looked to be beat as he couldn’t bothered to go after the two Spaniards. It worked. Sastre and Valverde joined up and quickly they caught Voigt, while Klöden was being left behind massively. At the summit, Voigt had managed to cling on as he snatched 2nd place and a massive lead in the king of the mountains competition. A group of 9 riders with Moreau, Evans, Fothen, Klöden, Savoldelli, Popovych, Contador, Menchov and Schleck crossed 2’30” later.
Valverde started things himself at the Galibier and quickly Klöden had to give in to the better climbers.
Valverde, Voigt and Sastre had a massive lead at the top of the Col de Galibier, while Klöden was losing the Tour de France.
Voigt had to let go with 8 kilometres to go. At this point the gap had shrunk to 2 minutes, but Valverde and Sastre were definitely going to gain precious seconds on Klöden today. Unfortuneately Sastre was very tired and he had to let go of Valverde’s wheel on the descent. Looked kind of strange really. Valverde were simply going faster than Sastre and he would gain seconds on him aswell unfortuneately.
Alejandro Valverde did win the stage, his second of the Tour and increased his lead in the GC, where Sastre now is second, 1’24” off Valverde. He came in 54 seconds after his countryman. Klöden and Evans edged out Schleck for 3rd, as this group came in 2’38 after. Finally a good day for Schleck as he will near in on the top ten, which his goal for this Tour.
The yellow jersey took things into his own hands today as he left all the favourites in his wake to take victory and increase his GC lead.
Overall I’m not devastated with Sastre’s 54 seconds loss, eventhough it was really bitter. On the positive note we did got rid off Klöden and he has to come through big on the time trial on the 13th stage. I think Sastre will be stronger than Valverde on the time trial so I’m confident that he’s not done in this Tour yet. It only takes one bad day from Valverde.
