I could make one example: Santi' Perez. He once performed a massive 2067 VAM, something never seen before and hopefully not to be seen again in a long time, in the 2004 Vuelta and regularly climbed with more than 1850 m/h. As we know, Tyler's blood propably had something to say.
He returned last year and ended 65th in the Vuelta. As many of his fellow-Puertoristos, he went to Portugal this year and was just 11th in the Volta a Portugal - maybe Isso can tell us something about his performances
Never.

In Perez's case, I doubt he has access at his current team to the drugs he had at Phonak. That and him being old now are, in my mind, the reasons for his performance not being at the previous standard.
Mancebo, though never suspended before, is another one whose performances before having dope troubles and after are very different. And I would say it's for the same reasons as Santi Perez.
The better case is Isidro Nozal. But he's a long story and a complicated mental case. And the word "mental" is well applied.

wasn't he the one to put the "water is bad for performance"-idea over the top??
somewhere i read that he was famous for not showering for an entire 3-week tour....

The time from the 10 kilometer sign was 25.50 min.
According to this calculator, that would mean around 355 watts and a relative wattage in the area of 400.
Also, this would mean Contador rode with a VAM of 1515 m/h. This fits quite well as the climb was only 6 % in average and the VAM rises along with the percentages. E.g. the Pereiro-group rode 1470 m/h up la Toussuire, also 6 %, in 2006. The climate was, as I remember, quite sadistic that day in the Tour and thus Contador's VAM-number isn't extra-terrestrial (still good, though) as it was only between 18 and 15 degrees today.
Never.

I doubt Moncoutié is able to produce more than 390-400 relative Watts on such a climb, so that would make sense to have Contador at 400. That has more credibility than if he did a 450-460 there (Basso/Ullrich/Armstrong like). |

It's quite clear that Sastre and Piti have to fight with some fatigue. Sastre with his very high low-level is just in the top 5 every day, definitely not in his Tour-form. Piti, on the other hand, with his very high top-level and also very low low-level, is as inconsistent as ever.
And btw:

Remember that Contador is not a boring rider, the problem is that he has absolutely no competition Lets hope that's not the case in next years tour. |

Indeed, this is lack of competition.
