Tour de France - Stage 3
img529.imageshack.us/img529/2079/pcm0002sr4.jpg

Another flat stage today. Not much to do other than try and get in the breakaway and keep our captain out of trouble if possible.

Oroz is our man in the break today. 9 riders got away with Nocentini being the most prominent of the names here.
img410.imageshack.us/img410/6744/pcm0004hg9.jpg

With 60km to go the pace is upped to the point where he has to let go. But the peleton is coming closer very fast and the break doesn't stand much of a chance.
img124.imageshack.us/img124/8369/pcm0006vs2.jpg

32.8km to go and the escapees are almost caught. It'll be a sprint finish again.
The yellow jersey could change hands for the 3rd time in 3 days.
img410.imageshack.us/img410/7379/pcm0008si2.jpg

At 6km Galdos has found the wheel of Boonen, it's somewhat nervous today and sprinters are switching trains all over the place. We're forced to swtch right where we find Cavendish and Bennati.
img255.imageshack.us/img255/9783/pcm0010qr5.jpg

The two supersprinters simpy have more speed than Galdos and they blast away from the rest with 1300m to go. Zabel is hanging on to them but cannot pass.
img362.imageshack.us/img362/598/pcm0013na2.jpg

And Bennati stayed in front all the way. Cavendish couldn't be placed any better but simply couldn't go past the italian. Bennati in yellow!

Probably not. I've faith in Sanchez though. Top5 i still doable.
The captains of the big teams will most probably use up their teammates before the finish. If we have to battle all the aces of Astana and Rabobak it looks very tough, but i think some of them will be reduced to helping their captain.

Tour de France - Stage 4
img174.imageshack.us/img174/9066/pcm0016jp1.jpg

The first timetrials of the tour. This will add to the time lost by Sanchez. After today, we'll know where we need to be when we come out of the final mountains to achieve our top5 goal.

Samuel is out on the road before any of the other favorites. He's lost 47 seconds at the first provisional time. And we can expect that to go up! Still 17.6km to the line for Sanchez.
img410.imageshack.us/img410/2168/pcm0018ko0.jpg

15th at the 2nd timecheck, 56 seconds behind Clement. Sanchez is riding on his limit here and has to watch out he doesn't overextend himself.
img58.imageshack.us/img58/6751/pcm0019sn0.jpg

And he crosses the line 1'16 after Clement. It's now up to the other favorites how much time Sanchez will lose. We're allready behind the pack of favorites by 1'40.
img524.imageshack.us/img524/3078/pcm0020sv2.jpg

And here is Evans, over the line 1'46 ahead of Sanchez. That'll be roughly 3'30 to Evans in the GC.
img208.imageshack.us/img208/2010/pcm0024cu1.jpg

Klöden manages to beat Evans by '23 seconds. Klöden is in yellow right now.
img56.imageshack.us/img56/9003/pcm0025lm8.jpg

But here comes Leipheimer, he beats Klöden by 3 seconds and the Astana rider will be in yellow tomorrow. Now the question is, can anyone pry the leaders jersey away from Astana?
img410.imageshack.us/img410/7346/pcm0026md0.jpg

Astarloza crosses the line at 17th for now, he'll remain in contact with the top contenders. This could be to our advantage as we can use this to dictate the action in the mountains. All in all, we still think our goal is possible.

Just enough to not get dropped. Which usually means around 60 with guys like Arvesen for instance. However, it does take it's toll in the long run. And when they up the pace to the point where its starting to hurt them, my boys will be suffering twice as much Smile

Seems a lot of folks follow this great story and are anxious to get every update.

I've created a quick Yahoo Pipe which I use with my feed reader (Google Reader) to see each time a new post is posted to this topic (doesn't show the images though, but better than refreshing page over and over).

You can even easily set up a Yahoo Alert to get an email, instant message or even a text message when a new message is added to this topic.

[Update] Unfortunately the pcmdaily.com forum_posts feed is very limited and doesn't keep list of files so this really doesn't work so well for me now... sorry

Tour de France - Stage 5
img525.imageshack.us/img525/1668/pcm0032yc6.jpg

The longest stage of this years tour, 232km of relatively flat terrain. We'll try and go with the break, but we wont try beyond our limits as some of the boys will be suffering enough from 232 of the pace this tour has seen so far. Also, we don't want to excert ourselves more than we need to as tomorrow is the first mountainstage.

96km out, the peleton is chasing a 14 man breakaway. Both Agirre and Galparsoro tried to get into the breakaway but to no avail. It'll be a quiet day for us. 9 minutes advantage to the breakaway.
img255.imageshack.us/img255/3823/pcm0033ac7.jpg

72km, the gap has dropped to around 6 minutes, and it seems theres not a lot of hope for the breakaway as liquigas and milram set a very high pace in the pack.
img367.imageshack.us/img367/3567/pcm0034th7.jpg

23km and Credit Agricole have taken over. The breakaway is in sight now and the sprinters are starting to move around. Our boys are very tired after this very long stage, and some of them wont be looking forward to tomorrow.
img179.imageshack.us/img179/7500/pcm0036gj2.jpg

Krauss doesn't want to give up with 15km to go and launches himself from the front as the peleton swallows the escapees. Gerolsteiner are very active this year and should be happy with what they've shown so far.
img47.imageshack.us/img47/2653/pcm0037bp6.jpg

5,9km and the sprinters are in place. Galdos has caught the wheel of Boonens launcher Steegmans, but they are going VERY fast now and it's hard to keep up!
img367.imageshack.us/img367/8846/pcm0038rl6.jpg

We had the right wheel, but not the power to sit on it. 4 men show their dominance and actually start to distance the pack on the final stretch! It's Steegmans, Boonen, Zabel and Hushovd.
img47.imageshack.us/img47/4026/pcm0039du9.jpg

Zabel takes the lead early as Boonen stays with his leadoutman for too long. Hushovd is perfectly placed on Zabels wheel with 1000m to go!
img70.imageshack.us/img70/5771/pcm0040mo4.jpg

And the norwegian takes it! Such a display of power from the norwegian as he manages to take 3-4 lengths on Zabel in the last 1000m. Great stuff!

Why do you always go off too slow in TimeTrials?

Addy291
It's better to go off too slow than too fastWink

True.

That's why i normally survey the course by doing the TT on Single Race mode just before a ride it in my career.

That way i now what % to set of at.

You should try it.

I use my first riders as guides. Set them out 5% apart, take their skill and daily form into consideration and then adjust from that. Usually get the best results by going a bit slow untill their energybars even out and then do a steady pace the rest of the way.

mrfredthebob
That's what i do on my trial runs but i wouldn't waste riders in the actual race.

It's just like what all the teams do in real life; they always go round the course the day before to see how hard it is.

I wouldn't feel good about it. For me, it's part of the game figuring out how to ride your riders in TT's as you go. I wouldn't say i'd feel like i was cheating but.. well, you know

mrfredthebob
It's not cheating it's exactly the same as what happens in real life.

You should at least record the % you used in TTs this year so you know what to do next year.

Tour de France - Stage 6
img440.imageshack.us/img440/6457/pcm0044bl0.jpg

This years first mountainstage is a lightweight. It ends at the Super-Besse ski resort, but the climb is more of a large hill than a mountain. None the less, it will probably give is an indicator of who our main competition is. Astarloza will be riding his chance as long as Sanchez' situation doesn't require him to be around.

69km. A breakaway of 14 riders is out there today, it's split into a lot of small groups though as we come close to the first climb. Lotto have taken it upon themselves to work today as Astana have a rider in the breakaway.
img524.imageshack.us/img524/6063/pcm0008gm5.jpg

As we hit the climb a lot of the lower ranked riders in the different teams have a go at it. Still Lotto in front.
img180.imageshack.us/img180/3301/pcm0009ol2.jpg

1km from the top of the climb a few more serious attacks roll out. Contador, Soler, Menchov all attack. The yellow jersey is staying with his team...we opt to stay with Leipheimer for now!
img440.imageshack.us/img440/9162/pcm0012vf8.jpg

16,4km to go and there's a small bump on the road between us and the final climb. Kirchen sees this as his chance and breaks out. Still no reaction from Evans or Leipheimer.
img524.imageshack.us/img524/5697/pcm0014om7.jpg

8.5 to the line. Evans attacks, Sanchez follows with a little delay, this time Leipheimer moves! We pass Contador and Soler on the way up. Klöden can't follow, Gesink and Dekker are spent. The main contenders are being defined on this mountain.
img93.imageshack.us/img93/6523/pcm0016xx6.jpg

With 1800m to the line it's Evans, Fothen, Schleck(Andy), Leipheimer, Menchov, Garate, Valjavec and Pereiro. And Sanchez of course. This will come down to who has the most gas left!
img119.imageshack.us/img119/8501/pcm0018gd4.jpg

And it's Leipheimer! The American had more than anyone else in the end and takes the stage. A win for the yellow jersey!
img103.imageshack.us/img103/6042/pcm0019xc2.jpg

Reaction

Leipheimer has started this race very strongly! One could hope that he is peaking early and it wont last all the way through. It was nice for us to see Sanchez up there with the best on this stage, and reassures us somewhat. From what we've seen today, Contadors early break, Gesink and Dekkers anonymity, Klödens too for that matter. Could indicate that we can focus on Menchov and Leipheimer. Of course, we wont let any of them get a long leash if we can help it. But it's nice to know who you're racing. Sanchez is currently 4'18 after Leipheimer, but only about 2'30 away from the top 5. And in that top5 are Klöden and Fothen, who we're conviced we can take some time on in the mountains. On the other hand, Andy Schleck and Oscar Pereiro are right outside the top5. So we have our hands full, and it should be a great tour!
