If this is simply the case of a miscommunication, than hats off to Quintana, Hesjedal and Rolland. A race is ment to be raced, and you can't gamble on something like this without being sure.
The gap has increased with about 30 seconds in just a short while, this might be huge if nothing happens.

Should we take the official message
This is just disgusting that Quintana win a giro because of such a monumental screw up from the Giro Officials

I think DS should learn italian going to Giro. I won't be surprised if this will be cleared as a matter uf misubnderstanding the grumbling in radio static by non-italian speakers |

Quintana's move on Stelvio sorta reminds me of Contador's move at Tirreno this year. Pistolero put in some massive time into the competition too in the downhill.
Stelvio is a beast climb by the way and the weather is shit. When Uran and many others are exhausted and three of the most active climbers slip away, and they go downhill in a whole different speed in such a long descent - that's another easy explanation on how 2 minutes can happen. Peloton exhausted, Quintana, Rolland and Hesjedal riding great and we end up living in different worlds faster than we know.

It's lovely. Great riding by both throughout the Giro so far, especially today too. Wonder if they invite one another for their wedding?

Are there bonus seconds on the mountain top finishes?

Because he's totally not extending his lead right now by simple superior riding.

Uran and Majka should start riding, or they will lost it here. They ride like there should be stage neutralisation.

Maybe Hesjedal helped Rolland to his win in the Tour a few years ago too. Got him through most of the stage, and then Pierre was too strong on Alpe d'Huez and attacked him

I havn't seen Quintana putting his arm out or something like that. I guess he's just riding at his own pace. Rolland probably struggles to hang on, just not as visible as Hesjedal. We'll find out.
EDIT Well... nevermind. Just as I ride it, Rolland and Hesjedal drop for good. Impressive stuff by all 3.
