Ending season
Hello everyone,
As you already know we just rode our last race of the season. That means that the holiday for our cyclists will start. Though it will be very busy months for me. I’m talking with our sponsors about a higher budget, and I have to finish the squad for our second season. That won’t be very difficult, because we don’t expect some more transfers.
But of course, the holiday from our cyclists means boring months for you. But don’t worry, we have enough to tell and to do. Soon we’ll start with some season reviews from the World Tour, and of course there will be a list from the transfers and sponsor changes. But also we look back to our first year in the peloton. And of course our riders will look back at their first season. At the start of the season they made some goals for themselves, and now we’ll see if they achieved it.
Also you are important as our fans. After the ‘Cyclist of the Year’ award there will be a fan day. You are all invited. You can meet our riders and of course you can ask them questions. If you want to ask any questions send them to me through PM. I’ll make sure that they’ll answer them.
On our fan day, there will also be an award for Hot-Wheels – Porsche’s cyclist of the season. There will be a poll online soon where you can vote for the best rider of the season. Of course you will get a list with the results from each rider.
Finally I want to thank everyone who supported us this season. There were some people who had their doubts about our team, but the riders did fantastic during the season. I really appreciate your support and I hope to see you next season here as well!

sutty68: Cancellara had a good season indeed. But Radioshack really dominated. 1st and 2nd in Paris-Nice and 1st and 2nd in Tirreno-Adriatico. It really surprised me that they dominated those two races. In one of the races the difference was even less than a minute. And still Cancellara is not cyclist of the year. You'll see soon who will win it.
The Rider: Sure? Rodrigues was very strong this season, but don't forget Watson's result.

Transfers
Here are the transfers. Surprisingly Froome leaves Sky and goes to Omega Pharma - Quick-Step. Orica-GreenEdge finally signed a GT rider (sort of) with Klöden. Breschel made a surprise move to Champion System.

sutty68: Yeah, it was a surprise. Omega Pharma - Quick-Step now has the best grand tour rider and the best sprinter. But Sky has big sprint talent Fenn now. But of course they'll miss Froome.

Two important messages
I told you that I would ask for additional money for next season to hire a scout. I have spoken with Hot Wheels and Porsche and they’re not sure about it. They already pay a lot of money to hire good trainers and for now they don’t want to raise the sponsor amount. But they asked me to take a look at some regions next season. I scouted all the riders who rode for us in our first season, and because some of them are talents they want me to scout riders this season as well. I would love to do that but of course I have to lead the team as well, so I’ll see if I can combine it. I still will try to receive some more money, but I don’t think that it will happen.
This year Hot Wheels and Porsche organised the talents race for the U-23 and it looks like they really liked to do it. After that, they started to try to organise some more races in 2014. They didn’t tell me anything about it, so it was a surprise for me to. In the future they want me to create the routes for it, because they really liked the route from our talents race. It’s not sure if any of the races will be there in 2014, but they’re working at it. Porsche is also trying to get the Deutschland Rundfahrt back on the calendar and they prefer to make it a World Tour race. I would like to bring a race like the Eindhoven Team Time Trial back on the calendar. We’re not only looking to organise races in Germany, the Netherlands and the United States, but we also would like to organise some in non-cycling countries in the future. The organization which would organise the races is called HWP. I’m not sure if any of the races will be on the calendar in 2014, but it’s likely that there will be a few on it in 2015.
So it’s going to be a busy year for me. I have to lead a team, scout young talents and help organising races. It’ll take a lot of time and energy, but I’m really looking forward to it.

It would be great to see the team ride the TTT in Eindhoven.
I do hate those penny pinching sponsors though, sponsors give the team some MONEY! |

The Rider: Yes. I really like the TTT Eindhoven so I hope we can get it back on the calender, or maybe another TTT one-day race. And I have to say that our sponsors already pay a lot but we have two expensive trainers, so it's not that we don't have enough money. When we really want a scout we can take a less expensive trainer and then we would have enough money.

2013 Season Review
Now the season has ended, here is some more information about the final parts of the season.
Argos-Oil and AG2R La Mondiale are both degrading so they will ride on Continental Tour level next season. Next season we will ride with eighteen World Tour teams, so FDJ has lost its place in the World Tour as well. Accent Jobs and Sojasun will take their places in the World Tour.
Because of clauses in their contract, Marcel Kittel and John Degenkolb will both leave Argos-Oil. Kittel will ride for Garmin, while Degenkolb will wear Katusha’s jersey next season.
These ten riders were nominated for the Velo d’Or.
- Bradley Wiggins (GBR), 33 jaar
- Chris Froome (GBR), 28 jaar
- Joaquim Rodriguez (ESP), 34 jaar
- Simon Gerrans (AUS), 33 jaar
- Mark Cavendish (GBR), 28 jaar
- Tom Boonen (BEL), 31 jaar
- Fabian Cancellara (SWI), 32 jaar
- Philippe Gilbert (BEL), 31 jaar
- Vincenzo Nibali (ITA), 28 jaar
- Peter Sagan (SVK), 23 jaar
Finally, it was Joaquim Rodriguez who took the award home. Chris Froome and Fabian Cancellara were second and third.
Here are the winners of the rankings.

There were several records broken or equalised this season.
- Tom Boonen has a new record because he won the Ronde van Vlaanderen for the fourth time.
- Tyler Farrar has won the Vattenfall Cyclassics for the third time and that’s a new record.
- Alessandro Ballan has won the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec for the first time and now he has that record together with Thomas Voeckler, Philippe Gilbert and Simon Gerrans.
- Rigoberto Urán won the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal for the first time and now he has that record together with Robert Gesink, Rui Costa and Lars-Petter Nordhaug.
The calendar for next season will look different as well. There are some races which has changed between categories. The Strade Bianche will be a 1.HC race next season, just like the Japan Cup. The Glava Tour of Norway has got promotion as well and now it is a 2.HC race. The Tour du Limousin has lost their HC status and is now a 2.1 race. The Tre Valli Varesine and the Tour de Vendée also went to a 1.1 category next season.
It seems that Philips will take over the sponsorship of Blanco Pro Cycling, but it’s not sure yet.
There is also a new Continental Team founded. The main sponsors are Rayban and Canon (jersey by anderspcm). They’ve signed some old names like Bäckstedt, Bodrogi and Horrach.
There were some riders who wanted to retire but eventually decided to go for another season. Unfortunately some of them couldn’t get a contract at their current team anymore. These riders decided to go for another season and at which team they will do that.

- Michael Albasini -> Blanco Pro Cycling
- Bartosz Huzarski -> Vacansoleil – DCM
- Jérôme Pineau -> Omega Pharma – Quick-Step
- Frederik Veuchelen -> Vacansoleil – DCM

Some nice changes there. It is always good to mix up the teams going to the world champs. I have a notion to prevent all the ' big nations' (France, Spain etc) from going, that should throw up some interesting results!
The season is done and dusted and now the next one awaits. |
