JuanMotr: Thanks a lot, never smelled that coming, huh?
dienblad: It's his first World Tour win, and it wasn't easy! So he'll enjoy the banana
PCM rulezz: Thanks! It was fighting until the very end!
Stromeon: When Cancellara started chasing, it got real exciting thanks for the bananas!
Jesleyh: I sure hope so. It can't hurt, that's for sure. Maybe he'll get more chances like this at Argos!
sutty68: It looks that way. Curious where he'll end up in next year's classics.
Jakstar22: Thanks!
Daggen: I'm sure he twittert that later that day
Thanks for the big support, everyone! You're just great. |

Eneco Tour - Stage 5
Another probable sprint finish. Team tactics remain like before, set up everything for Greipel. So that's what we were going to do!
We set up our lead-out as usual, and I was feeling good. But then someone tried to sneak away my wheel, Greipel fought for it, but someone ended up hitting my back wheel. I went down!
I knew what was at stake so I got up instantly and I was lucky enough to just catch the back of the peloton, so I wouldn't lose time. It was only until after the finish I started worrying about the pain in my shoulder.
Some other man went down, too. Luckily Greipel remained upright. Second in ranking, Chavanel, loses 9 minutes, though.
The sprint was off, but our lead-out was cut in half. Greipel used Roelandts as a lead-out.
But today, no one was a match for Tom Boonen, who felt he had to make something right after yesterday's disappointing performance.
So a tough day this way. A high pace, and then hitting the tarmac at +60km/h. But I need to start tomorrow, there isn't a doubt. I'm third placed now. With the final 15km time trial I may be able to hold a top 5 here in a World Tour race. I can't give that up, not even if my arm would fall off!

Greipel isn't going to do it this week, better go for Stijn or Jurgen in the sprints.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Too bad for Lotto and Greipel, but I like the winner of the stage
I hope the pain in the shoulder isn't that serious.

sutty68: I'm sure he will
Ollfardh: You're probably right. Greipel hasn't enough shape to compete with the other sprinters obviously.
PCM rulezz: Yeah, it was an impressive sprint in his Belgian Jersey |

Eneco Tour - Stage 6
If you take a good look at the profile, you'll notice it's a hard day. Constantly up and down without real moments of rest. It'll go hard today.
This morning, I felt my shoulder a bit, but then the doctor gave me an injection and I felt much better, in fact, I cycled much better than usual... (JOKING!). He put a patch on it and during the race the pain receded. My legs were my main concern today, not my shoulder.
The many hills made the terrain real tough, so that's the way I like it!
And then the end came. Most of our team were already flat-out. Only ones left with some punch in their legs, besides myself, were Roelandts and Greipel. The latter admitted a low form so he proposed to pull real hard and Roelandts said he'd open the sprint for me, since I obviously had the best shape, having the least race days in the legs.
Two members of the breakaway group were heading to victory. It seemed impossible to catch them yet.
But then I discovered the real strength of André Greipel, the man is truly a gorilla. He pulled and he pulled and just kept going, what a strength!
Finally, Roelandts opened the sprint for me!
I went past him and was just about to surpass the two remaining breakaway companions. They were close to victory today!
Going into the final corner, I was going head on head with Boasson Hagen.
But the guy is just racing on a whole other level. I'm very content with the second place, no one could've beaten this guy today!
Well, this is good. A tough stage and I finish 2nd in the sprint, after falling yesterday. If I can develop a little more strength over the coming years, hopefully less, I may be able to compete in some sprints on World Tour level, like today!

Fantastic race for you, keep it up! Not sure about Stijn's TT abilities but it might be possible to even keep the podium, right?

PCM rulezz: Only one more flat stage, so that one might be a chance for Roelandts Though much will depend on the race
cunego59: Thanks! Podium will be hard, Cancellara and EBH will fight for 1 and 2, but Langeveld (73TT) is real close, while Stijn only has 63 TT, but since it's only 15km, the prologue stat will be important, too. So I've no idea, hope I can hold that top 3, though! |

Great workload from Greipel to get you to the finish in the first place but Boasson Hagen just had the edge |

Eneco Tour - Stage 7
Another hilly profile with a flat finish. Expect us with a train!
Today, Greipel felt better. So Roelandts would be leading him out. Because of my position in the GC, Greipel offered me his wheel to try and finish as high as possible in his slipstream. Great guy!
But it wasn't meant to be. I take another crash, a hard one. Here is a picture the split second before someone nearly decapitated my legs... I was in so much pain.
Spoiler I think fate has me confused with some Dutch rider.
Because it happened in the final 3km, there was no time lost, but I finished 15 minutes behind the winner. The doctor told me to quit, but I'm not like that. That's just not me. I finished, dragging myself over the line.
In the sprint, Greipel was better, only Tornado Tom was a bit better.

Eneco Tour - Stage 8
The final Time Trial. I woke up in so much pain, I was allowed some mild painkillers by the race commissioner, surely it wouldn't enhance my performance. I believed it's called Tramadol. Could be something else, don't really remember.
I rode the entire race in the red, I may have overdone myself a little. But in the end it didn't matter. I am officially World Tour podium material!

Best Team: Sky Pro Cycling
How about that, Boasson Hagen losing with the same time as Cancellara. Not my problem, I just podiumed the Eneco Tour, how great is that?
However, there's a minor drawback to this: I pushed myself and my body hard these last couple of days, maybe a bit too much. Many riders have had their careers shortened by giving too much too early. So I might have to forfeit the next races... I'm seeing the team doctor tomorrow to discuss what needs to happen.
Anyway, right now I'm glad, incredibly glad!

Ouch, nasty fall...
I'm wondering who you mean with that Dutch rider fate confused Stijn with... Spoiler Of course kidding
A great third place for Stijn, I mean, how great is it to podium a WT race?
Hope Stijn won't get accused of using 'performance enhances'
Well, the race commissioner accepted it, so it won't be a problem I hope
