Liège - Bastogne - Liège
It's la Doyenne! Jelle was ready for it, so bring it on!
The weather was good, so that was one hell of a relief for us.
I moved to the front of the race right before the peloton started with the Redoute.
This way I was able to stay with the first riders and get Jelle some water in those last km, he really appreciated not being alone there.
However, after fulfilling my job I was dropped fairly quickly and only 4 riders remained at the front: Fränk Schleck, Vincenzo Nibali, Philippe Gilbert and Jelle Vanendert.
And so they headed for the sprint...
Bad luck for Jelle as Gilbert is the better sprinter here today! What a shame, he strands on the 2nd place for the 2nd time in a row here.
I ended up on a 26th place.
Review
This was the first time I raced the hilly classics. It was just like I thought it would be: a nervous peloton, hard races and constantly positioning yourself. I'm not really a fan, so I hope I won't be returning here too fast, but mainly I'm happy about it because I was able to help Jelle and he finally got his first classic win, in Wallonne.
Gilbert is leading the UCI Ranking with Stijn a surprising 2nd! We'll both be taking a break now. Stijn will return for the Tour of Belgium, while I'll be in action in the Dauphinée, as a preparation for the 100th edition of TDF.
See you there! |

Congratulation for Stijn, good second position
Jelle is a bit unlucky! 2nd time in this race that he finished 2nd (however I wouldn't complain of a second position) |

Always nervous races with constant repositioning within the peloton...
Nice result with Jelle still. Gilbert is unbeatable on his good days... |

@ste_18: 2nd isn't bad, but he must be growing tired of it
@Muggert: Thanks, Gilbert is quite unbeatable indeed, so 2nd place is actually winning (Gilbert doesn't count anymore as competition )
@JuanMotr: His palmares would go through the roof is Gilbert was caught |

2nd is bad after all, Gilbert is just the master in that kind of races.
No Giro for the 2 that's a bit sad because that's were it all started. But the 100th tour is also something special

@PCM rulezz: At least he won his first classic, so I think he's quite happy.
No Giro this year, unfortunately. But the team's priorities are now with VDB and his quest for gold in Paris, so they need every climber to help him, and Eric will be an important help in France! Maybe he'll return to the Giro next year, who knows |

News
Hi everyone, just letting you know some things, as we are already in June and Eric is getting ready for his first Dauphinée.
Tour of Belgium
I sprinted to a 2nd place in stage 1, but after that I didn't play an important role there. I'm still building up form after a long break.

Giro d'Italia
This year's Giro was won by Bauke Mollema! Our Bart De Clerq rode an excellent Giro and raced to a 10th place, while Lars Bak tasted victory in stage 12, in one hell of a breakaway.

Contracts
Thomas De Gendt will not sign a new contract at Vacansoleil. I wonder what team he'll go to!
Well, that's it for now. Eric is up, with the prologue of the Dauphinée! |

The Dauphinée - Stage 1
After the Schleck domination of last year, we hope to see Jurgen in a good shape and hopefully a good GC place.
I rode a decent prologue, but I also made minor mistakes, which cost me some seconds.

The Dauphinée - Stage 2
A sprint, so no changes in the GC.

In other news: Renshaw will not see his one year contract renewed so has to start looking for another team. The management is not happy with his results.
Dehaes has signed for an additional 2 years at Lotto-Belisol.
Cancellara will remain at BMC.
See you tomorrow, for the first hilly stage of the Dauphineé! |
