Impressive ride by Voeckler. But what a great stage today! I hope its only going to get better. I really like the riding of Basso this time, I think he has a great chance for the yellow in Paris.

I enjoyed today's racing.
Pity that Thomas couldn't hold out and get the Tormalet prize, I think he might have kicked a bit too early. Having said that really pleased he didn't crash over the edge and into a ravine on that first descent of the day!..
Pleased he got Combative - will be good for the team too.

EDIT
HOLY COW! I can't believe that Velits lost so little after his catastrophe in that fall - he had to change bikes twice and was chasing all the way up the Tormalet. That is some ballsy ride - hope he's still got some in the tank.

If he keeps this up he might well win the whole thing. But still a long tour and still very very open.

Happy with Uran, after he picked that injury ( same time as Bradley ) I thought he wasn't going to do very well on the first mountain stages, now he should go from strenght to strenght. Jeannesson will be strong contedner, but I think he will crack. Taarame after today even on top form isn't good enough, imo.

Finally it's here, mountains!
I really hope Kreuziger is already ok. He lost time in every stage from his fall, but he said he should be ok and that he will try to get himself to a break tomorrow. And I hope so as well. There will be massive package of points for the polka dot jersey competition and I think the break has some good chances of being successful. But we will see..
And the battle for the yellow jersey? I think Voeckler won't keep his jersey and we will definetely see some attacks from favourites. And Contador will loose some time to Andy IMO. And one of Schlecks will take the yellow, which one? I think more possibly Frank..
So I was right in everything what I said yesterday, except of Voeckler keeping the yellow. Bravo, Thomas! He was real surprise for me today, great ride by him and Rolland as well. So there is a question, will he stay in yellow jersey to Alps? He showed himself in superb form today, so it isn't impossible IMO.
I was really pleased that Kreuziger did something, but he clearly isn't 100% ok, normally he would catch the main breakaway group quite easily. Anyway, I hope he will be back with another attack probably for Plateu de Beille stage.
I thought Leopard will try to do something today, primarly for Frank, as there was some nice chances of getting him to the yellow. When Luz Ardiden started, I really thought that theirs tactic really failed, but then it was better and better. Frank attacked, Andy attacked and Frank attacked once again and in the end Frank was probably the strongest in this first real mountain stage of this Tour. He looked maybe even better than his brother, who didn't give it 100% for sure, as every other favourite clearly gave.
Evans was quite good, it's quite nice surpriste for me, but I don't think he can beat Schlecks in this Tour, but it is quite nice surprise to see BMC much stronger in TdF than last year. Basso is the real contender. He will be really strong in Alps, I think he will be there in his best form but I have big question about his time trial.
Cunego is back. He is finally on his form from years about 5 years ago, but I see a big question about his form in the last days. He was really good in Tour de Suisse, but I would be quite surprised if he would have same form in the last days od TdF. Sanchez was strong and he played it great tactically today. It will be no real surprise if he will be the "best of rest" in mountains, quite like last year.
Velits was really, really unlucky today. He had technical problems on Tourmalet just in time when Leoprad guys were pushing really hard.. I am really sorry for him, I think he would be here in contention with Cunego or Voeckler for sure. But anyway, he did great race by himself from there and I think he has still real chance for top 5.
And finally Contador. He quite surprised me, I thought he would be worse here, as his first real mountain stages in GTs are every time his best in the Tour. It will be really interesting to see him in next stages for sure. But still, I don't think, he can beat Schlecks and Basso in this race and I don't think he will be much better in next stages, he will be maybe even worse, because of his fatiuge of Giro.
Anyway, here is the real GC:
1 | SCHLECK Frank | LEOPARD-TREK | 51h 56' 33" | | 2 | EVANS Cadel | BMC | 51h 56' 50" | 0:17 | 3 | SCHLECK Andy | LEOPARD-TREK | 51h 57' 01" | 0:28 | 4 | BASSO Ivan | LIQUIGAS-CANNONDALE | 51h 58' 00" | 1:27 | 5 | CUNEGO Damiano | LAMPRE - ISD | 51h 58' 06" | 1:33 | 6 | CONTADOR Alberto | SAXO BANK SUNGARD | 51h 58' 44" | 2:11 | 7 | SANCHEZ Samuel | EUSKALTEL - EUSKADI | 51h 58' 55" | 2:22 | 8 | VELITS Peter | HTC - HIGHROAD | 52h 00' 47" | 4:02 |
Anyway, it was great stage and I really enjoyed it as a fan. Kreuziger, Schlecks, Basso and Cunego really pleased me. I can't wait for another stages!

Arnold Jeannesson needs a stats update!
Also I was very surprised to see Hesjedal in the lead group at the start of the final climb, but great work by him, to stay in the top 50 ahead of some good climbers, although probably half of them are injured like he is (Gesink f.e.).

Nah, Thomas one was joke Though Martin perfomred better than Hagen, he still had his team support being the 'leader' , while Hagen was brining bottles up at one point.
This is not an excuse, but Hagen said that he took it easy today, being his big target tomorrow's stage, where he wants to go for a break. Good chance of break actually staying, so Hagen should have a big chance tomorrow.

Taaramäe got complete hammer at final 3,5km.
Yep Uran is better GT rider I know..
Tony has been working he's ass off for Cavendish..who has been man at the sprint finishes..who is riding like beast at the front when we have 2km. to go.
Hagen can climb..you can read back my reaction at Dauphine..so can Tony |

Think Taarame might be great GT rider. Just work on his stamina and recovery. I hope he doesn't crack up and tries to give others run for their monies on next mountians stages. What do you think of his chances ?

He can do it i think, but as you said he is still young and not fully developed yet. But now when Gesink is hurt the white jersey is up for grabs so why not.

Taaramäe seems to be able to push himself really hard, above the limit where most riders have give up. But the downside is that he is prone to cracking completely, like today. Hope he can learn how to get over it.
