Indeed, De Plus looks set to win this. There's only one mountain stage and left and there aren't any big climbs before the finish.
His mountain + time - trial combo is currently the best in the game, especially from the young riders so that will make for interesting stuff in the future.

A rather weird stage in the 19th day of racing in this year's Tour de France. Vincenzo Nibali was in the breakaway and he was the only remaining survivor at the top of the last climb but he could not held on in front of the comeback of the pack.
A very interesting pack which contained a mix of sprinters and general classification riders. It was a strange outcome as the green jersey wearer, Dylan Groenewegen was actually beaten by two climbers. But he couldn't have been too mad about it as it was his team - mate, Powless who took the win
What a Tour de France it has been for the young American. Two stage wins (3 if you count the TTT), the white jersey and quite possibly a top 5 finish.

We finish the competitive racing of this year's Tour de France with the stage up to the mythical Mount Ventoux. Everyone was tired as they arrived the final difficulty of the race and you could tell by the way pack slowly spread across the climb.
It hasn't been the race Geoghegan Hart and Ag2r were hoping for but they still want that podium place and the Brit is the first rider to make a big move today and might quite possibly the only one as everyone else seems to be struggling
De Plus did not look comfortable, but at least he had Powless with him to give him a helping hand. Luckily for the Belgian, Froome didn't seem to be enjoying himself too much either
Froome would eventually manage to breakaway from De Plus right before the final kilometre and started gaining some significant ground as soon as the gap was made. The Lotto rider had Uran with him for company
It was too late for them to stop Geoghegan Hart from taking today's stage win and a place on the podium as Soler really struggled today, despite Nibali's best efforts to keep the Spaniard in contention
Uran leads Froome home 12 seconds behind Tao. Froome is definitely winning important time on De Plus enough, but is it quite enough to register one of the biggest surprises in recent Grand Tour history?
It's not! De Plus arrives in a group with Lopez and Bardet 1 minute and 6 seconds after Froome. De Plus keeps the yellow jersey for 13 seconds
Stage 1. | | Tao Geoghegan Hart | Ag2r La Mondiale | 4h46'17 | 2. | | Rigoberto Uran | EF Education First p/b Cannondale | + 12 | 3. | | Chris Froome | Lotto Soudal | s.t. | 4. | | Miguel Angel Lopez | Deceuninck-Quick Step | + 1'18 | 5. | | Laurens De Plus | Team Jumbo-Visma | s.t. | 6. | | Romain Bardet | Ag2r La Mondiale | s.t. | 7. | | Vincenzo Nibali | Mitchelton-Scott | + 1'28 | 8. | | Neilson Powless | Team Jumbo-Visma | + 1'50 | 9. | | Giulio Ciccone | Trek - Segafredo | + 1'53 | 10. | | Marc Soler | Mitchelton-Scott | + 1'59 | 11. | | Ruben Guerreiro | TEAM Aeroflot | + 3'01 | 12. | | Wilco Kelderman | Team Jumbo-Visma | + 3'13 | 13. | | Jimmy Colson | Cofidis, Solutions Crédits | s.t. | 14. | | Tadej Pogačar | UAE Team Emirates | s.t. | 15. | | Mikel Landa | Movistar Team | s.t. |

Jumbo did a fantastic job today as they but Groenewegen it was the best possible position as the pack took the last corner of this year's Tour de France
Groenewegen was not as fast as his team-mates though, but luckily for him neither were his main opponents for the green jersey, Demare and Philipsen
It was Peter Sagan who took a rare mass sprint win to save what has been a very quiet race from Bora. Gronewegen took a classic fourth place for him in this Tour, but it was enough to give him the second green jersey of his career
De Plus finished the stage in total safety to end what has been without a doubt the best Grand Tour in the team's history, from the number of stage wins, to the coming up on top of 4 of the 5 classifications. A fanatic maiden Grand Tour victory for De Plus and the team

Wow, I guess I nearly jinxed it
Still a great result in the end. A Champs Elysses win would have been nice, but seeing the jersey haul, you had to let the others teams leave with some sort of trophy I guess

Both Grosu and Van Aert are still recovering after their crashes so neither of them was able to start in this year's edition follow last year's fantastic result. Additionally, Deceuninck didn't select Roglic for this race which means that Fuglsang will be the only rider starting this year with a podium in the previous two editions.
Jumbo always seem to be getting the sprint preparation after the last climb to perfection here and this year was no different. And Van Baare was able to deliver a huge result as he managed to held off Alaphilippe in order to take the win.

Last year's race started with the most important stages as the first two were a mountain feast, where Steven Kruijswijk took control of the race. This year we start things slowly with the flat stages first. Ackermann was the man everyone's eyes were on for those stages as he won all 3 mass sprints, with one stage going to the breakaway.
Ackermann was unbeatable in the sprints
De Plus started the race with the purpose of helping Sivakov as the Russian was looking to build form ahead of the Vuelta, but as Pavel was forced to retire after the fourth stage due to a illness, De Plus was given free reign.
And the fresh Tour de France champion showed that his hunger for victory is still intact despite his very recent success. After coming in second behind Izagirre in the 5th stage, De Plus would go on to win the only uphill finish of the race and the final time - trial to clench the overall classification victory.
De Plus is 4/5 in stage races victories this year

Ikr. De Plus became one of my favorites after last year's real life Tour. I hope he stays with Jumbo beyond this season and gets the chance to prove himself in a Grand Tour.

Despite coming up short in the team time - trial, the team did a superb job of always putting Van Poppel in the perfect position for the sprints and the former Dutch champion delivered. Every single time. But with a 16 kilometres time - trial in the penultimate stage, it was impossible for him to retain the title.
Time - trials were the millstone to Van Poppel's race
Van Aert started the last stage 1 minute and 8 seconds behind Van Garderen, not even being in the top 20 of the GC. But with the help for Van Baarle and Teunissen he made the race as hard as possible every time we hit the cobbles, before making his move on the last cobbled section before the finish line.
The Belgian's attack was so strong than no one even tried to follow and with both EF and Deceuninck riders looking rather tired and at each other, Van Aert went won to win the stage with an advantage of over 1 minute and a half over the green jersey group to take the overall win.
The cobbles were key in Van Aert's success

Wow, even more great results. I guess the difficulty change for next season is definitely needed.

Well done with the Tour, what a big, big win
Curious to see how the Vuelta goes. Have you decided the difficulty change is for next season and not starting now? I suspect you'll be the favourite going into the Vuelta, and maybe a difficulty change can make it very, very interesting.
Having said that, I really enjoy it as it is now as well. Winning Binck Bank with Van Aert and the Tour with De Plus on such stats feels normal. San Sebastian with van Baarle maybe not so much, but after all you've shown again and again that San Sebastian is quite a Jumbo speciality |
