Just thinking out aloud here, I wonder if Portes teammates are fully committed to burying themselves for him. If I were a teammate I would ride for my leader but if he was sleeping away from the team every night like Porte I don't know if I'd absolutely bury myself for him. I get the logic as to why Sky would try this but it does absolutely nothing to foster a strong united team atmosphere

You have a point.
But they get paid enough to bury themselves for their leader. And they're professional enough to do that, I think
And, don't forget: prize money is shared between team mates. It matters.

Not sure about that last one. He's always there, just missing the final acceleration. Then he just lets it go instead of continuing for a top 5 - top 10.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I agree that they get paid to do a job I don't doubt that they will ride for Porte but when i say bury I mean that extra couple of percent that you find to drag yourself back upto the front when your body is screaming at you that your cooked, to me seperating your leader from the rest of the team might jeopardise that almost brotherly atmosphere. Look at OGE who are a true team, or even how Astana are riding for Aru and say CSC back in the day or even dare I say U.S Postal for Amrstrong (obviously I'm excluding the doping side in all this )

Yeah I agree, a couple of seasons ago a stage like this with its length would suit Boonen perfectly but there are others who are quicker these days even over this type of distance. Think Boonens best chance at the Giro is a in breakaway or a late attack

Is that blimmin' Griepel up there for Lotto Soudal? Well then... chapeau to the big Gorilla for proving again that he has some good climbing legs. Bunch of other sprinters that you may have expected to be in with a shot dropped like stones out the back earlier.

Well didn't expect Ulissi to take that especially with Lampre working for Modolo, guess he had a puff on his asthma pump
Interesting finish that one

Surprised Orica went with Gerrans over Mathews, he could have had a chance oh he was dropped off late.

Have a feeling Mathews might be a little tired right now and that sprint did suit Gerrans if he is feeling good
