I expected a beating.. but not for Spain wtf just happened tonight?
I knew the only slim hope Dutch team had is all balls to Van Persie and Robben and hope they do something. And in defence just hope they last..
So 1-0 behind was the worst possible score. And yet somehow Spain completely collapsed that 2nd half.
The last 20 minutes there were just absent. Could've been easily 8-1 at that time. As if they were tired, or just.. given up? |

It's a public secret that the Spain squad was doped during the last 3 tournaments. They don't seem to be now. In the WC 2014 they all sprinted for 90 minutes with 2-3 players constantly pressuring the oppositions player on the ball.
Even though Spain has had a horrible offense during these years, this dope-fueled high pressure tactic meant they hardly conceded any goals and got their trophys this way. |

Well it seems that in Spain there are no scouts or are there some? I mean Robben did that "I cut inside and use my left foot because I simply shoot with the right one" twice now and still Pique and Ramos fell twice for it.
Accidentially it is Friday the 13th
not this shit again, people have been saying that about robben since ever he started playing right winger
you know why defenders keep falling for it? Because the movement is too fast. You can't imagine how to defend that if you have never been a defender yourself against such a player. It's not as predictable as you make it seem |

The legend Garrincha was accused of always making the same move. And he once said: so what? it always works! |

We (Australia) were superb this morning. So proud of the lads. Ran rings around Chile for most of the second half. Made a complete mockery of our pathetic FIFA Ranking. |

I'm actually sure Australia will make it very difficult for us. We played 1 good match but apart from RVP/Robben/Sneijder most of the team is inexperienced and irregular in their performances. Can't afford to slip up |

*opens up Facebook*
*sees everyone changed their minds about the Dutch team because of a 5-1 victory*
Yep, it's that time again. Before the World Cup started a big part of the Dutch population expected Oranje to finish third or fourth in the group, reaching the knockout stage would be impossible. Now almost everyone says they'll be world champions, they're also able to beat other top countries etc. etc.
It's exactly the same as Euro 2008. Winning 3-0 over Italy and 4-1 over France made everyone think Oranje would take the cup in Vienna. They reach the Quarters and what happens? A 3-1 loss against Russia. Indeed, Russia.
If Oranje wins this group they'll probably face Mexico or Croatia - both extremely enjoyable teams to watch - in the Round of 16, it won't be easy against them. If Oranje gets past Mexico/Croatia they'll face Colombia, England or Italy in the Quarters and I can't see Oranje winning against those teams. If Oranje gets second they'll face Brazil and then it's over without any doubt.
Don't get me wrong, they played well yesterday, and the five goals were kinda okay, but I'm staying cynical. Round of 16 is the most realistic destination, reaching the Quarters would be the maximum achieveable.

they will lose against Australia and Chille now
Spain is still going to do better, they are developing a habit of being bad in the first match
EC 2012: 1-1 against Italy
WC 2010: 1-0 loss against Suisse

What the? So you are comparing those two matches to the 5:1 humiliation against Netherlands haha
A 1:0 against Suisse, where Spain was throughout the match the superior team, and a 1:1 draw against Italy, who later reached the finals. You must be kidding right?
Of course, Spain will strike back and as long as they are not knocked out of the competition, they are one of the favourites. This goes without saying, but this was not merely "a habit of being bad in the first match", this was a drastic loss in quality compared to what we are known of Spain, the champions of scoring one goal and calmly winning the game.

The screen is wrong. It says 2 - 1 for Urugay, but it's 1 - 2 for Costa Rica... |
