Garmin - 4th season Giro d`Italia
Alakagom
That's a nice result with Peterson, he paid for the early effort of going for KoM, but still got the KoM jersey which is his target. So not a bad stage after all Smile

Let's get Martin on the podiumWink

Thanks all. Sometimes I feel that I attack too less which might be due to having a race favourite. But I surely should do it more often in future. Wink

@Mitch: But while Freire really lost his stats Evans is still 77/77 or so in hills/mountain, and obviously doing great things so far.

Volta Ciclista a Catalunya - Stage 6
El Vendrell - Barcelona
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_6_36.jpg
A similar stage as yesterday. Several hills, but probably too easy to challenge Evans. Also Movistar won`t have big interest in giving Sagan a chance to get bonus seconds.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_6_38.jpg
A big group of 13 riders in the break of the day. Most known former German champion Sieberg (Omega), Galimzyanov (Katusha), Valls (Geox), Moncoutie (Cofidis) and Australian champion Cooke (Saxo).

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_6_40.jpg
Murphy is doing most work while Movistar is presenting in the first rows but not doing much.
None of the attackers is as well placed as Peterson on the last and so they don`t really care.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_6_42.jpg
Duggan and Pate try to close the gap. With 60km it`s still 5'30 and not really melting. This will be a damn hard job without any help. Not even Liquigas is supporting us and they should be interested a lot. Even after Sabatini felt back out of the group they don`t work.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_6_44.jpg
So it`s again a breakaway win without Garmin participation.
Fastest men surely Galymzianov, Cooke and Sieberg but with all the hills the situation might also be different.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_6_46.jpg
It`s the German Marcel Sieberg with the best legs. He beats Mortensen and Valls in the sprint celebrating a great win.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_6_48.jpg
This time Haussler wins the peloton sprint ahead of Steegmans and Sagan. Hopefully he can celebrate a stage win on the last flat stage tomorrow, where Evans really has to hope for a bad Sagan result.

This is whitout doubt one of the best PCM stories if not the best. I admire all the time you keep puting into the storie and I hope you will keep on going Smile

PS: How do you have such great talents, I always struggle finding good talents!

Thanks.
Nice to see someone new here. Dao and Löw were talents in my first season. Being in their 3rd season now they are able to get good results. Souchon is in his first pro season and was winner of the U23 before. This is normally the way I go. Checking the U23 rankings.

I always think having a great talent but he turns out to be not even good enough at being a helper  thanks for the info!

When Garmin finally wins a sprint, it's just for 14th... Wink

1 flat stage left and Haussler surely has the quality to take it. Good luck!

roturn
True. But he is on a good way. 94 fitness. Ready to ride the Ronde and Paris-Roubaix. Wink

Volta Ciclista a Catalunya - Stage 7
Sant Cugat del Vallès - Montmeló

It`s the last stage and another chance for the sprinters. Our biggest hope for a stage win in Catalunya. But also a great chance for Sagan to be under the first 3 to overtake Evans in the overall lead on the last meters.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_34.jpgi1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_35.jpgi1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_36.jpg
Always when you thought the group is allowed to go some more riders attack. In the end all 12 are forming the big group once again. Biggest name for sure Astana`s Frank Schleck, who had a rather disappointing Tour. But also Milán (Caja Rural), Arvesen (Sky), Noval (Saxo Bank), Viganò (Leopard) or Hermans (Shack) are well known names in professional cycling.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_37.jpg
Early work for Murphy and Duggan to hold the gap under 3minutes. Different to yesterday we don`t expect any big support, so we will have a hard day for sure.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_38.jpg
And it becomes even a bit harder. With ~60km to go 3 more attackers. Roux (FDJ), Reynès (Omega) and especially Veelers (Skil) want to close the gap alone. Especially the Dutch is knwon as one of the very best riders on the flat and can easily hold a high pace over a long time.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_39.jpg
Luckily some other teams are interested in a sprint with 40km to go and still 2min. Quickstep (Steegmans), Rabobank (Brown) and a little bit also HTC (Sagan) and Vacansoleil (Bozic) are doing the work now we have done the whole day so far.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_39a.jpg
Then a nasty crash with 15km to go. Who else but a Garmin rider. It`s Peterson, who had a great ride two days ago falling after a dangerous corner in the first third of the peloton.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_39b.jpg
Not being able to look around the corner early enough almost everyone behind him is falling or at least being blocked.
Most known surely Igor Anton, who must be afraid of his podium now as also guys like Contador or Uran.
Other riders like Cobo (5th) or Stetina were blocked and also lost contact.
8 riders even had to abandon badly injured. Biggest name surely stage winner Cardoso, who was also well placed in the KoM challenge.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_40.jpg
Just 37 riders are left in the peloton while Veelers and the others are caught now. Dan Martin, Kessiakoff and Haussler are the last Garmin riders here with Stetina trying to close the gap as first solo rider behind the peloton and still ahead of the small Cobo group.
Martin and Kessiakoff had big luck as they also had to fight hard not to lose contact as the crash happened directly next to them and for a short seconds they struggled.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_41.jpg
While GC favourites are down, most sprinters were lucky and forming a long train now.
Leezer-Brown-Van Hummel-Steegmans-Haussler-Vaitkus-Sagan-Sabatini.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_42.jpg
And with 1km to go Steegmans and Haussler start their own sprint with Sagan being a bit behind and it`s Haussler, who wins the sprint ahead of the Belgium.
Sagan sprinting on a strong 3rd really overtakes Evans in the overall and wins the Volta a Catalunya 2013. Great job by a weaker climber.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_43.jpg
Cobo is one of todays loser falling back almost 2min. Instead of a top5 he will finish as 11th just outside a top10.
He leads the next group including Stetina or Contador.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_44.jpg
Even worse for Anton, who loses more than 3 minutes today meaning losing his 3rd overall and finishing as disappointing 17th.
Not that bad for Garmin as Martin really gets his podium spot now but surely not how we wanted it.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_45.jpg
Peterson, who was one of the initiators lost more than 4minutes losing his good 13th but still ending on a good 20th for him and winning the KoM jersey.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Cat_7_46.jpg
While Uran also loses his top10 and falling outside the top20. Bad luck for him as well.

Strange last stage. No changes on the last 2 hilly stages but then on a flat stage lots of unexpected situations.

With Martin being 3rd and Kessiakoff entering the top10 plus Haussler (16th), Stetina (19th) and Peterson (20th/KoM) and the winning of the team ranking due todays stage this race was unexpected successful for us.

Nice job from Peterson to "kick" Anton out of podium and making a place for Dan Martin there Pfft
Just joking, but really nice podium because of that and finally a great sprint from Haussler...
I'll be back

First: congrats with the win.
Second: congrats with the 3rd in GC (and in a few months, nobody remembers how he got it).
Third: congrats with the KOTM-jersey!

Great Volta for you, Martin rode well and with today's bit of luck got deserved 3rd. Haussler after medium start finally get his win and ends the race perfectly with great shape for the Classics. And Peterson wins very close KoM along the Team Ranking. Great way to finish it off Smile

Sagan surprised too, might be bit of dark horse maybe for the classics, the less tough one like Gent. Should be great Wink

Nothing more to add, great win, a place in the podium and the KoM. Seems Garmin are back on the road. Smile

Our goal is surely a top10 here and a stage win.

One stage win, 3rd and 9th in GC, 2nd in the Points ranking, KoM jersey, 3 Top 5's in -25 and the win in the Team ranking: Job succeeded!

You have to do something about the tumbling though... Wink
