Stage 4 : Douai ITT
The 4th stage is one of the most important in this year´s 4 Jours de Dunkerque. And it might me a good one for our team as our team-squad is pretty good in time trials. This one will last for 21 kilometres and it´s a great chance for Monfort to get some seconds to his main rivals Plaza,Moreau and Barredo. It´s also interesting to see if Fedrigo or Trofimov will loose too much or if they can still stay in the group of favorites
Coppel was one of the first to start and he showed a great ride today, setting the provisional leading time with 28'09
Trofimov lost many seconds today while Monfort still had to set his time but it should be no problem for our team-captain to beat Trofimov´s time
His team-mate Fedrigo didn´t make it better he also lost many seconds to Coppel
Next one was the first rival by Caisse,Ruben Plaza. He was already 10 seconds behind Coppel on the check point and in the end he even lost 36 seconds!
Our time trial expert Rabon set a good time, beating Plaza by 10 seconds!
The next national champion of our team was Lars Ytting Bak,who was doing really well today.Well,he couldn´t beat Rabon´s time but he beat Plaza´s by 2 seconds
Barredo, another big rival for Monfort, couldn´t persuade today. He already lost 28 seconds to Plaza. That means he won´t be able to take part in the overall decision
With Moreau came the last one who could be dangerous for us.He got an amazing time missing Rabon´s time by only 2 seconds!Coppel was still in front while Caisse had to reconsider their team classification. If Moreau is there man now?or still Plaza...we will see that on the next stage
Then came Monfort and he wants to shine today! He had the big advantage that his main rivals were already rode their times. And with an amazing time he could beat Rabon by 3 seconds but he was still 23 seconds behind Coppel!
The last one who could get the leader´s jersey today was Tom Boonen! He was surprising a bit setting a fantastic time.He got the 8th position in the end, taking the leader´s jersey with 2 seconds in front of Sieberg!

After 4 month cycling in Spain,France,Italy,Australia,Germany and other countries we´re going to ride the first Grand Tour of the season 2010!
Welcome to the Giro d Italia where 21 stages will decide about the first great winner this year
Take a look at this years route
As you can see we won´t begin in Italy but in the Netherlands,in Amsterdam which is really great
But now I want to talk about the 21 stages of the first Grand Tour
Stage 1 : Amsterdam ITT
Stage 2 : Amsterdam - Utrecht
Stage 3 : Amsterdam - Middelburg
Stage 4 : TTT Savigliano - Cuneo
Stage 5 : Novara - Novi Ligure
Stage 6 : Fidenza - Carrara
Stage 7 : Carrara - Montalcino
Stage 8 : Chianciano Terme - Terminillo
Stage 9 : Frosinone - Cava de Tirreni
Stage 10 : Avellino - Bitonto
Stage 11 : Lucera - L´Aquila
Stage 12 : Citta Sant´Angelo - Porto Recanati
Stage 13 : Porto Recanati - Cesenatico
Stage 14 : Ferrara - Asolo
Stage 15 : Mestre - Monte Zoncolan
Stage 16 : ITT San Vigilio di Marebbe - Plan de Corones
Stage 17 : Brunico - Peio Terme
Stage 18 : Levico Terme - Brescia
Stage 19 : Brescia - Aprica
Stage 20 : Bormio - Ponte di - Legno - Tonale
Stage 21 : ITT Verona
So these are the stages of the Giro d´Italia 2010.As you can see there are 4 time trials that contain one team time trial. The three weeks begin with a short prologue in Amsterdam before a few flat stages are following.Another great time trial will be stage 16 on Plan de Corones with hopefully good screenshots! The last stage will be also a time trial in Verona about 15 kilometres and maybe it´s important for the overall classifications.Of course there are many flat stages for the sprinters but there are also quite a few mountains arrivals!5 stages full of action and hard climbs while the Monte Zoncolan should be the most terrible uphill section in Italy this year.I´m sure in this moments the Giro will be decided
So we talked a lot about the stages and the Giro but now it´s time for the teams that are participating this year with all their captains and favorites for the win and the whole jerseys
First of all I want to present our Team Columbia for the Giro
Kanstantsin Siutsou
Tony Martin
Michael Albasini
Bernhard Eisel
Mark Cavendish
Marco Pinotti
Aleksejs Saramotins
Craig Lewis
Patrick Gretsch
Tony Martin is our team-captain numer one while Mark Cavendish is the second one especially when it comes to a mass sprint!Eisel and Martin will help him there.Siutsou is another help for Martin in the mountains just like Gretsch,Craig and Albasini.Marco Pinotti is the only Italian in our team but I´m sure he will be really motivated for the time trials

So when you take a look at the startlist you can see that Liquigas surely sent the strongest team with Basso,Nibali,Szmyd and Pellizotti..I am really curious about their performance and the question should be who is their team-captain?
Lampre is also there with one of the biggest favorite for the overall win,Damiano Cunego. We will see if he is strong enough to keep it up with Liquigas on the hardest climbs.
Scarponi,Garzelli,Pozzovivo,Martin,Popovych,Brajkovic,Luis Leon Sanchez,Larsson,Hesjedal and Tiralongo are also favorites but maybe not the biggest. We will see if Martin is able to get a Top 15 position in the end but it´s hard for the young German to reach that.
Well, our sponsor is expecting the win of the sprinter´s jersey. It´s always hard to win that at the Giro while many climbers are good sprinters, too like Cunego. But we´re optimistic that Cavendish can reach this goal ´cause the competition isn´t really good there. His biggest rival might be his team-mate Bernhard Eisel.Dean,Ginanni,Marzano,Haedo and Vaitkus are also there but if they can hang on in mass sprints? |

Great Presentation. I hope Hesjedal and LL Sanchez can get a top 10 behinf Martin who will get 6th I think. Points jersey should be Cavs from day 1 or 2 in this case.

Well,that´s a good question neve57 but I hope so.
Cavendish is already bushed a bit of the current season which I can´t understand but if he won´t have any chance to get the sprinter´s jersey he will cancel the Giro ´cause the last 3 stages are really hard |

Stage 1 : Amsterdam ITT
First stage of the 2010 edition is a short prologue about 8 kilometres! It´s not in Italy but in the Netherlands,in Amsterdam. The big favorite should be Gustav Larsson but Luis Leon Sanchez,Martin,Zabriskie,Pinotti and Ignatiev might be able to beat him
Fran Pellizotti, one of the favorites for the overall win,was one of the first riders setting a time.Well,he isn´t the best time trialists but he came with 9 minutes and 34 seconds
Popovych was maybe a secret favorite for today´s stage win and he really impressed at the intermediate check point in the end he lost a few seconds but he still could take the lead by 7 seconds in front of Pellizotti
Next one was our Italian ITT Champion Marco Pinotti with a good time, beating Popovych by 6 seconds!
Another rider from Italy,Vicenzo Nibali came with the same time like Pinotti
Marzio Brushegin set a great time today, finishing 3 seconds in front of Pinotti
With Garzelli was the next favorite for the first Grand Tour on the road.He wasn´t known for his great time trials, his strength are the mountains. So it wasn´t a surprise that he lost important seconds today, finishing 32 seconds behind the stage winner
Ivan Basso is maybe the biggest contender in Italy but his ride today wasn´t really well with 31 seconds behind the stage winner
Damiano Cunego also lost quite a few seconds today but he still got a 11th place with 23 seconds behind the first one
Brajkovic, was definitely one who could win this prologue, but he was only 2 seconds faster than Brushegin while Larsson,Ignatiev,Zabriskie,Luis Leon Sanchez and Tony Martin were still on the road
And then it was up to Sanchez! His first intermediate time was fantastic, but then he slowed down on the last 2 kilometres. He lost many seconds, missing the leading position but he still got the same time like the RadioShack rider
Zabriskie, the American ITT Champion, was great today. His first time was amazing and when he reached the finish line,he took the lead by 8 seconds in front of Brajkovic and L.L.Sanchez
Our last rider today was Tony Martin, our team-captain.Well,it wasn´t his best day ´cause he lost 10 seconds to Zabriskie finishing as 7th
Larsson, the main favorite for today´s stage win,set an amazing time as we already expected. With 9 minutes and 2 seconds he was able to beat Zabriskie by 6 seconds!
But there was still one rider left with Ignatiev! And his intermediate time was even 2 seconds faster than Larsson´s!It looked quite good for the Russian talent but then came the last kilometres where he lost many important seconds to Larsson and Zabriskie. In the end he became 3rd,14 seconds behind the stage winner Larsson
Stage results/Overall
1 | Gustav Erik Larsson | Team Saxo Bank | 9'02 | 2 | David Zabriskie | Garmin - Transitions | + 6 | 3 | Mikhail Ignatiev | Team Katusha | + 14 | 4 | Janez Brajkovic | Team RadioShack | s.t. | 5 | Luis León Sánchez | Caisse d'Epargne | s.t. | 6 | Marzio Bruseghin | Caisse d'Epargne | + 16 | 7 | Tony Martin | Team HTC - Columbia | s.t. | 8 | Francisco Pérez | Caisse d'Epargne | + 18 | 9 | Marco Pinotti | Team HTC - Columbia | + 19 | 10 | Vincenzo Nibali | Liquigas - Doimo | s.t. | 11 | Damiano Cunego | Lampre - Farnese Vini | + 23 | 12 | Ryder Hesjedal | Garmin - Transitions | s.t. | 13 | Jack Bobridge | Garmin - Transitions | + 24 | 14 | Yaroslav Popovych | Team RadioShack | + 25 | 15 | Mark Cavendish | Team HTC - Columbia | + 26 | 16 | Egoi MartÃnez | Euskaltel - Euskadi | s.t. | 17 | Lars Boom | Rabobank | + 27 | 18 | Stijn Devolder | Quick·Step | s.t. | 19 | Tiago Machado | Team RadioShack | + 30 | 20 | Martin Mortensen | Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team | s.t. |

4 Jours de Dunkerque
Stagr 5 : Hazebrouck - Boeschepe
Today is the queen stage of 4 Jours de Dunkerque! We hope that Monfort can hang on there in the important moments
A really bad thing happened to me!My computer crashed with more than 50 kilometres to go but the stage was still finished, without of my control! So I couldn´t take part in the final
Stage results
Overall
As you can see Tom Boonen was really strong on the queen stage so he´s wearing the leader´s jersey tomorrow.Maybe he will win the last stage in the sprint? |
