Im thinking loud again and i might end up regretting saying this, but couldnt Gesink do a top 3 in a Grand Tour next year if said GT was just a tad easier?

No, Gesink needs long mountains. The longer the better
shorter, smaller mountains don't suit him, too much explosiveness needed |

Gesink managed well..Ruben should be pleased Yeah, he did a very good final 3km, he was with Mosquera and Zaugg, and then he rode away and came to 20 seconds of Sastre. Very good.
A few more years gaining power and experience, and he'll be battling for the win
He definitely needs power. The TTs show he has less than the others and he's much much heavier. He'll need a few years allright. 3-4, maybe more.
We'll see Heavier? He's 67kg at 1m91, if he gets lighter, he'll die |

he's 10kg heavier than RodrÃguez, 5 than Contador. It's not a quesiton of "he must be lighter". it's a question of "he's too heavy to be a top climber given his current power"

Come on, this is the Vuelta. It's in Spain. It's like the Giro.
Wonder why they nailed Piti a couple of days ago? They all know the score, that's why.
Still, nice stage. And the best riders won.
And Basso vs Contador will be really interesting. And despite being a huge Basso fan, I think Contador will have it, JB is the maestro....though I hope I'm wrong....

I wouldn't really call "Angliru" interesting. Everything was rather predictable, and unfortunately, Astana is and will be dominating. Now, imagine the Tour next year with this Astana team + Armstrong .. uh, so exciting
Well done by Gesink. Can't wait to see him next season. |

When they hit the foot of the climb i started a stopwatch and when he got to the top i stopped it, total time up the climb was 44 min.

So, now we have the wattage - why not praise the comeback of Armstrong with some VAM's, calculated in the living memory of Amigo de Army, Michele Ferrari
If Contador's time up the Angliru was 44 minutes, as t-baum claims, Contador would have climbed the Angliru with a VAM just around 1700 m/h. Generally, Alpes rises with 6-8 % in average while Angliru was a little more than 10 %. From a 8%-climb to a 10%-climb, the VAM would rise between 90 m/h and 110 m/h. So, if Contador had climbed the Alpe d'Huez, he would have done it with maybe 1600 m/h. Sastre climbed the Alpe d'Huez with between 1680 m/h and 1720 m/h - can't remember precisely. Also, VAM's are generally higher in the Vuelta than in the Tour, mainly because of the lower temperatures, I'd think - or the lack of testing, one could say.
But, by reading the live-tickers - those can't be trusted but we'll try - Contador climbed Angliru in between 39 and 41 minutes. If we just go with the 40 minutes, that would give a completely different result. In that case, Contador would have climbed Angliru with 1875 m/h, which would mean just around 1775 m/h on the Alpe d'Huez. In that case, maybe Damsgaard is just a crying fool
So, what have we learned by this? Nothing, except I made a fool of myself
Never.

Sorry, t-baum, but if it was 44 minutes, his performance was so bad he's clean
His performance was so bad, a regular Moncoutié, Caucchioli, etc. would've destroyed him

427 is the relative wattage right?
Contador's real wattage number, given a total weight of 68.8kg, is around 380 watts then!?
Given 41min instead of 44min, the relative wattage is 483 watts, and the real is around 430 watts.
