Yeah, Addy seems to be right here, about Cavendish.
First, how would Cavendish know he's the fastest ? He just can't, he may assume it, but he can't know for sure since he is never opposed to them in track sprint events.
What he's implying is that he's the fastest pure speed at the end of stages, and that if he doesn't win it's a matter of bad luck, bad positionning, etc. not a lack of speed.
Is he a bad arrogant loser or an objective analyst ?
isn't this the time for one of your beloved kilowatt things? |

That works efficiently when it comes to climbing some mountains, when it's about sprinting first we don't have datas, then we'd hardly be able to exploit them. |

I read some article about tests about top sprinters a while ago, it also involved kilowatts or something, and according to those tests Steegmans should be more explosive than Boonen, but it doesnt make him faster than Boonen by default or something
It all depends how they interpret those results |

since he has no way to compare himself to the others, he can't be an objective analyst. I wouldn't say he's a bad arrogant loser either.

Explosivity variates from people to people, there's no critical limit that would indicate the use of doping stuff, which is basically what we're trying to guess whilst checking mountains wattages.
I don't really know the figures for road riders, I can only remember some : Greg Baugé (French track sprint event team member) can reach about 2200 W. Sébastien Chavanel (FDJeux sprinter) can reach 1400. I think that's their absolute power on a track without 200 or 300 km before.
At the end of stages, I read Boonen can go above 1000 W (1100 or something), whereas Petacchi is closer to 800/850 (not sure here) despite being slightly faster, perhaps.
Explosivity makes riders go fast, but most of all shows their ability to jump past another rider.
Sprint wattages don't say how fast riders are because of the strenghts applied to a sprinting cyclist. It's mostly about air resistance at 60+ km/h speeds, and there's a lot of dragging effect reducing it, and it also depends of riders position whilst sprinting.
Values I gave are most likely real values, to make any comparison it would need to be expressed in W/kg or equivalent Watts (70+8 kg).

"Watts per N of air resistance".
there's a novel concept.

And of course putting a rider into the break every day does eventually work. Brutt rocks my world. I love the fact that the Eurosport commentators said that he can't climb? and he wouldn't win. Errrr.... come again?
Tinkoff rock my world
Pity on Millar, but still, Brutt is far better

I guess he finished after the peloton as the gap had fallen to less than a minute, and it was in the last km, just. So he probably got a bike, and the same time as the rest of his group given to him. We'll have to wait and see!
