Eneco Tour, Stage 6
i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/eneco2013stage06_zps4eebcdb1.jpg

After yesterday's first little mix up in the Time Trial, today we will see the GC contenders want to finally get back the time they lost on the former breakaway riders on stage 2. Gilbert has shown to be in exquisite form, Cancellara is close to an overall victory and Boasson Hagen surely has some stellar support in Kenyan Sithembile. Three times La Redoute is on the menu with multiple additional climbs. With at otal of 6 categorized KoM sprints, it’s also likely that Richard Löwenherz will lose his polka dot jersey.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_19_58-Greenshot_zps029eb5bf.jpg

A very active first start sees multiple breakaway attempts. In the end, the one with Lindeman (VCD) in it is lucky enough. With him are Wynants (BEL), looking for a stage win, Rutkiewicz (CCC), Puccio (SKY) and Nuyens (GRS). A bit further down the road, Kroon (TST) and MLanda (EUS) want to catch up and be part of the front of the race.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_22_28-Greenshot_zpsc5715bd7.jpg

The group is complete by now. Puccio won the intermediate sprint ahead of Kroon. Their lead is already at around 4 minutes. Multiple teams are taking part in FDJ’s chasing though: Orica GreenEdge, Movistar and BMC all have interest in the stage win today.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_25_27-Greenshot_zpsc3c43404.jpg

Euskaltel – Euskadi are helping notably FDJ now. Clearly they are concerned for Aberasturi’s overall position, despite having Landa in the breakaway. Never has the lead of the breakaway exceeded 4 minutes, and now, as the race is at half time, with around 70 kilometers left, it’s highly unlikely any breakaway rider will win today. Meanwhile, Kroon won the first KoM sprint.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_27_44-Greenshot_zpsea9a82dd.jpg

Up the finish for the first time, Landa and Nuyens fight it out on the way up the La Redoute. Under 3 minutes lead for 65 kilometers left. Nuyens won ahead of Landa and Puccio.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_29_38-Greenshot_zpsef0e5077.jpg

Over La Redoute, the peloton stretched thin. FDJ are now taking advantage of that, a small group of roughly a dozen riders try to get away. Behind them are 25 riders, with Van Avermaet, Löwenherz & Kakhi in it. A minute down (rough time) is the peloton, with Gilbert & Cancellara.
However, the situation gets in the end neutralized by Katusha’s chasing effort and Cancellara comes back easily into this group. World Champion Gilbert is seen struggling at the end of the peloton for a bit and it may show who has good legs today and who doesn’t?

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_33_36-Greenshot_zpsa6fc1866.jpg

With support of Lampre, FDJ are keeping their group just ahead of the peloton at the Cote de Fraiture, however Katusha has gotten them eventually in the descent again. The recent moves at the La Redoute should provide for a confusing finish though, as we now know what to expect. The peloton holds around 100 riders now.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_36_43-Greenshot_zpsf05236ab.jpg

40 kilometers left, a gap of 1’30’’. Landa and Nuyens do their thing throughout the race, sprinting for KoM points. Eventually, with one more KoM to go, Landa is ranked 2nd, one point behind Löwenherz.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_39_00-Greenshot_zps77ddad3c.jpg

La Redoute, the second… Katusha goes in strong into this climb, despite Löwenherz being a bit behind. Lampre show themselves actively upfront, as Pozzato tried to attack earlier. Nuyens and Landa are already close to the top. Both of them form a new front of the race now.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_41_20-Greenshot_zps3d5328fd.jpg

La Redoute once again delivers the expected goodsd. Gilbert and Van Avermaet have been smarter this time around and are featured in the first group. However, Cancellara is in a small group alongside Löwenherz and Pozzato and Boasson Hagen. The peloton is even further back, and as the two groups come together, they have around a minute lead to the peloton and minor groups. Still, a true assessment of the situation should be made once the peloton hits the next climb actually. At least in provisional overall standings though, it is now said that Löwenherz has overtaken Chainel and Hovelynck and is currently 2nd.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_44_48-Greenshot_zpsf86717cd.jpg

Nuyens shows a stellar performance, going real fast in the downhill. Landa and Rutkiewicz are the other riders from the former strong breakaway that have managed La Redoute ahead of the peloton fine. Puccio, Lindeman & De Clerq (who made a late attack apparently) are about to get caught. 1’30 lead on Group Le Bon.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_46_48-Greenshot_zpsff59b0c6.jpg

You can see how he gets out of the saddle! World Champion Gilbert is following an attack by Gasparotto. The race is on! Dries Devenys and Kakhi (CSS) follow too. They quickly gain a minute lead and catch up to Nuyens. 15 kilometers left.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_48_51-Greenshot_zpseb1549b9.jpg

Did he move to early? The peloton with FDJ and Katusha at the forefront, keep the time gap in check. Both Le Bon and Löwenherz definitely have to thank their teammates today.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_50_13-Greenshot_zps80e863d3.jpg

As Group Gilbert is caught, Ulissi attacks in the downhill. Gasparotto and Gilbert follow too, as well as Cancellara. Boasson Hagen tries to bridge the gap with an attack seen in the background. Trofimov, Belkov and Kolobnev chase the elite group. Meanwhile, Amador hit the peloton again with a great solo effort!

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_52_07-Greenshot_zpseda83b5b.jpg

7 kilometers to go and Gilbert rides clear of his opposition on this hill. Cancellara is closest to follow, whilst Gasparotto’s legs cave in and Boasson Hagen struggles in no man’s land. Bavarian Josef Hintermüller attacks from the 30 men peloton late!

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_54_49-Greenshot_zps04375bae.jpg

A dominat performance by Gilbert, a huge lead to the peloton and Group Cancellara/Ulissi etc. Katusha are chasing in the peloton but their efforts are not enough for the World Champion. Instead, multiple riders see chance in the peloton and attack out of it, in hopes of hitting the La Redoute early. No doubt about the winner though at this point anymore.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_56_23-Greenshot_zps19c6d2c4.jpg

Whilst Gilbert hit the finish line, the riders further down are in the hardest part of the climb. Ulissi, Cancellara and a recovered Gasparotto try to take as much time as possible on the peloton. Sithembile makes an impressive late attack in the last kilometer. A bit ridiculous though: Since La Redoute was seemingly forever and a big, big jam was the result of it, some riders get the same time as the peloton, notably Vanmarcke, Phinney and Thomas, who have been chasing the peloton for a better part of the day.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2509_58_08-Greenshot_zpsedb2ecfb.jpg

Gilbert is the winner of the day, as the takes the stage win and the race leader jersey. Due to his point hoarding in previous stages, he also takes over the points jersey from Greipel. Though Johan Le Bon couldn’t hold Gilbert for good, he still holds 2nd overall and will wear the U25 rider jersey on tomorrow's stage. Cancellara jumps over multiple former breakaway riders and is now third. Löwenherz stays fourth, couple of seconds ahead of Boasson Hagen. Landa took over KoM jersey from Löwenherz by 2 points and will look to defend it tomorrow.

Oh come on. I was waiting for one post and then I could post my TdP preview here. Now I have to wait a couple of posts before I can go again.

no hard feelings, you obviously couldn't know this

About the stage: Good job by Josef, who seems to be the only one capable of performing here.

Okay then, here it is

www.informatorbrzeski.pl/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/tourthePologneplakat.jpg
Welcome to the 70th edition of the Tour de Pologne, the 3rd oldest one week stage race of the WorldTour and the oldest non-Spanish.

History

The first ever edition of the Tour de Pologne was held in 1928, when native Polish Feliks Wiecek became the first winner.
bi.gazeta.pl/im/8/8809/z8809778Q,Feliks-Wiecek.jpg
The race wasn't ridden for some years, in 1930-1932, 1934-1936, 1938 and 1946 there was no Tour of Poland. In 1949 the Tour de Pologne had the first non-Polish winner with the Italian Francesco Locatelli beating his opponents. Until the 1990's the race had, under communist control, only been for amateurs. The first professional winning was Dariusz Baranowski, who with 3 victories now holds the record of most overall victories.
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/81/Dariusz_Baranowski.jpg/220px-Dariusz_Baranowski.jpg
In 2005 the Tour de Pologne became part of the UCI ProTour, despite resistance of some cycling fans who preferred to see the Course de la Paix, a race with more history, in the ProTour. In 2011 the Tour de Pologne became part of the newly formed WorldTour.

Last year

In 2012, the second time in the WorldTour, the Tour de Pologne presented an interesting startlist, with several possible winners. Thanks to winning stage 1 and stage 6 Moreno Moser beat the Pole Kwiatkowski for GC-victory.
www.cyclingfans.net/2012/images/2012_tour_de_pologne_stage1_moreno_moser_wins1.jpg

The Route

For the first time in history the Tour de Pologne starts outside Poland, with stage 1 and two being held in the Italian Alps.
www.cyclingfans.net/2013/images/2013_tour_of_poland_stage1_profile.jpg
Stage 1 is immediately one of a significant difficulty. After two shorter mountains the riders climb to the skiing resort of Madonna di Campiglio, which lies at an altitude of 1522 meters. The climbers should feel very well here and the first GC contestants may already lose it here.

www.cyclingfans.net/2013/images/2013_tour_of_poland_stage2_profile.jpg
Stage 2 is undoubtely the most difficult stage in Italy. Three tough climbs, of which one is the finish. The Passo Pampeago, known from stage 19 of this year's Giro, the Passo Costalunga and finally the Passo Pordoi, with an altitude of 2239m should form a serious problem for weak climbers. Unless something weird happens you can't win the GC here, but many will lose any left GC aspiration.

www.cyclingfans.net/2013/images/2013_tour_of_poland_stage3_profile.jpg
After two mountain stages and a quick travel to Poland the organisation has decided to give the riders an easy stage. However, the length of 220 kilometers might hurt a lot of legs after two tough days.

www.cyclingfans.net/2013/images/2013_tour_of_poland_stage4_profile.jpg
Stage 4 is quite hilly and once again very long, with 231.5km. Some sprinters with a good punch and a good stamina might hang on, but even a breakaway isn't unlikely.

www.cyclingfans.net/2013/images/2013_tour_of_poland_stage5_profile.jpg
It's not over yet. Stage 5 may be short, but it has some very tough hills on the way, which might become too much for several sprinters. It shouldn't form too much of a problem for the climbers and punchers though, who might aim on a stage win if the break is pulled back. That said, the pack might take a day off and let the break go.

www.cyclingfans.net/2013/images/2013_tour_of_poland_stage6_profile.jpg
The organisators of this race should pick up a dictionary and look for the word mercy. The traditional stage to Bukowina Tatrzanska is a very tough one, likely too tough for many riders. For many riders it's one final chance to turn the GC in their luck, considering the final stage.

www.cyclingfans.net/2013/images/2013_tour_of_poland_stage7_profile.jpg
The final stage isn't very easy either. The lenght of 37km is quite short, but it has to be covered individually. This is the very last stage of the Tour de Pologne, and it will obviously shake up the GC once again, perhaps including the winner.

The riders

i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/EPIC%20Reports/PCM1829_zps195035f7.jpg
A quick look at the startlist teaches us that this edition has an experiment with smaller teams. Where past editions usually had 8 riders per team, this year we only see 6 riders on each team. This may mean more safety and less breakaway control in the peloton. It'll be interesting to see how these smaller teams affect the racing styles.

Of last year's podium, all riders are present. However, it's unlikely title defendant Moreno Moser is likely to win again. Sergio Henao and Michal Kwiatkowski are better climbers than him and should do better. With a good TT it's safe to say Kwiatkowski is even one of the top favourites for this year. Other contenders should be Henao's team mate Rigoberto Urán, who has a good TT and is excellent in the high mountains. Kim Po-Ding is another contender for the GC. The North Korean must be disappointed to see the deteriorization of Poland after abandoning the communism, but will try to prove the superiority of communism with a good climbing skill and an excellent TT. Bauke Mollema will need to take a gap in the mountains, as he lacks TT compared to opponents like Kwiatkowski. Native rider Rafal Majka and Belgian Jurgen van den Broeck are also contenders, although the Belgian usually improves later in a stage race. Finally Dan Martin, who has had a decent season so far, is also a contender. However, his bad TT might cost him a good result. Other contenders include Rui Costa, Cristiano de las Campos, Ivan Basso, Robert Kiserlovski, Andrew Talansky, Pierre Rolland, Christian de Vries and Romain Bardet.

Sprinter-wise, the field is relatively weak due to the lack of real flat stages. For these stages, Tyler Farrar is a contender. His main rivals are probably going to be Luka Mezgec, Daniele Bennati, Thor Hushovd, Andrea Guardini, Kenny van Hummel, Ariel Richeze and Aidis Kruopis.

For the time trial, we see some specialists have travelled towards here. Drago di Silvestro, Jonathan Castroviejo, Stef Clement and Svein Tuft will all have a hard time beating Kwiatkowski though.

We can see that there are 9 Poles on the startlist. With Kwiatkowski and Majka there are two serious contenders for the GC. Furthermore Damian Owniak should do well and the riders of native Polish team CCC should be part of many breaks.

Finally, we'll take a look at the EPIC riders present. Apart from the earlier mentioned ones we also see Oreste Ghita for Argos, Heimdall Hägg, Ioannis Dimitriou and José Alberto Suarez for NetApp, Richard Löwenherz for Katusha, Albert Llanet for Movistar and Jamel Johnson for Champion System. All of them should be able to at least perform something, most likely in a possibly succeeding breakaway.

Favourites

***Michal Kwiatkowski
**Rigoberto Urán, Kim Po-Ding
*Bauke Mollema, Rafal Majka, Daniel Martin

Conclusion

It's likely we'll see an interesting battle at many fronts. We're all looking forward to a hopefully spectacular 2013 Tour de Pologne.

Well done with the preview Selwink.

- Ollfardh denying active teams many points here by sending that OPQS line-up to Poland. www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/hand-gestures/facepalm-smiley-emoticon.gif

Doesn't look like Fabian will be winning this Eneco Tour but he is well on his way to the much needed top5 finish. Can we make it three stage wins on the final stage?

And a very nice preview! In a way, it will be an experiment for EPIC as well, to see what 6 rider teams can do. We recently saw Argos failing to control the London classic with only 6 riders.

The UCI also would like to confirm the popularity of this race, all 5 wildcards went to active appliers and it was very close in the end!

EDIT: The Rider - Polish guys should start in polish races, but don't worry, OPQS is hoarding punishments until they send startlists in Wink

@Eneco - Le Bon securing his 2014 contract, as well as giving hope to the interim managers at FDJ

@Pologne - Ah, the infamous Ctrl-V startlist approach made famous by older versions of the game (seriously, if you didn't send the same teams to these races in PCM12 and earlier you were playing the game wrong). Also a number of FDJ riders are apparently cloned and taking part in exaclty 1million races at the same time now Pfft

@Eneco: Nice to see Kakhi attacking, he was brave as I told him. But it can't always work out, so I can't blame him though I'm not very delighted with the result. We'll see what is possible in the last stages, but cobbles shouldn't suit him that much.

@Pologne: Originally I though nobody would send both sprinters and climbers to this race so I felt really smart when lining up a GC and sprinters squad. In the end I should have concentrated on GC only as Schnaidt will have no chance against the surprisingly strong sprinter competition... Still de Vries should bring us some points before he's leaving.

Bad stage in the Eneco Tour for us, but wasn't expecting much. Only Sagan is capable of beating Phil anyway. Pfft

Moser for a stage win and Basso to fail horribly again. Smile

Eneco Tour, Stage 7
i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/eneco2013stage07_zpsdfec4cfb.jpg

The last stage of this year’s Eneco Tour features two times the infamous Muur van Geraadsbergen, and then another small section of the Muur will be seen as the finish sprint. Though the cobbles won’t play a role directly in the finish in Geraadsbergen, you can bet that it will tire out the riders just enough to make for a hopefully exciting finish. Close standings in the GC should provide for an interesting battle, with Gilbert though being comfortable in front it is unlikely that BMC will lose this today. However bookmakers see Greipel, Degenkolb & Co. in the main favourite position as they anticipate a bunch sprint… clearly not too much idea about cycling those guys.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2510_38_59-Greenshot_zps016d4ec7.jpg

A strong breakaway consists of Pietropolli (LAM), Morajko (CCC), Scheirlinckx (AJW), Bodnar (CAN), Minard (AGR), Andrews (GRS), Astarloza (EUS) and Amorison (CRE). Morajko gets uncontested the intermediate sprint. BMC really isn’t in working mood yet, so the gap gets up to 7 minutes quite easily.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2510_46_17-Greenshot_zps8e3cd822.jpg

Heading into the Muur, the break has around 5 minutes lead. Various teams, such as Vacansoleil and Argos, help BMC to decrease the gap.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2510_48_11-Greenshot_zpsaf3e1bbf.jpg

Uhm… yeah, this one’s for real. Quinziatio and Burghardt rode quite fast over the Muur, Gilbert was able to follow, whilst confusion in later sections of the peloton caused a split. Now the three BMC riders are up ahead. Notably Boasson Hagen is quite far down. It’s likely all we get together in the descent real fast, especially since Katusha has already sent up two men for chasing.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2510_50_48-Greenshot_zpse8f475c5.jpg

As expected, the 48 peloton gets together again. Notably Greipel is still in there and Boasson Hagen managed the jump as well.
However Degenkolb and some other sprinters are not in this group, they are around one minute to soon two minutes behind. From the Top 10, Westra is in this group, as well as Hintermüller on 11th. Rudy Verboven, Nizzolo and Pozzato are some further names the commentators drop now and then.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2510_54_32-Greenshot_zpsa67c4cf2.jpg

Worth a shot from far-out is the reasoning of Howard, Leukamans and Steegmans as they attack on this little climb. All three of them play no role in GC but clearly gun for the stage win. Sithembile from SKY isn’t willing to let them go for good though. A bit later we hear that Van Avermaet has crashed, this is quite a loss for Gilbert, as Van Avermaet is no doubt able to pull back any attack.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_00_30-Greenshot_zpsa9c1bedb.jpg

By taking this very KoM, at 38 kilometers left, Minard is now the new leader in the KoM competition. Astarloza quite disappointed his teammate Landa probably, who would have surely liked to keep the jersey. The break has around a minute lead onto furious chasing Leukemans, and additional 40 seconds on the peloton.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_03_12-Greenshot_zps026095d0.jpg

Ahead of the next part of the Muur, Movistar’s pace for Amador has dropped several riders such as Eisel, Breschel and Tjallingi. Quite a surprise. Movistar is doing good at getting and securing 10th place for Amador here.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_06_01-Greenshot_zps1d00af84.jpg

Led by Sithembile, the peloton heads up the Muur for a second time. We see as the riders go through the finish for now, next time they are here, they will surely sprint for the last gaps they can create. For now, everythingis crowded together. Gaps in the descent are to be expected, Gilbert and Cancellara both are right upfront. Pietropolli has been the first uptop the Muur and took the last KoM sprint of this year’s Eneco Tour, as Minard won the jersey for good.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_08_23-Greenshot_zps37d6887e.jpg

The gaps are there, but for example Le Bon is still in the first group with Cancellara and BMC. Though neither of them wants to much work, so the dropped riders will get back, as Löwenherz does a major pull to get back. Meanwhile, Leukemans has caught up with the breakaway upfront for good now.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_09_43-Greenshot_zps5d2978d4.jpg

Double attack by SKY. Thomas launches for Boasson Hagen, but both Cancellar and Gilbert are very aware. Everybody else looks at FDJ, and especially Ladagnous, to do the chasing now for FDJ, and they take up the command. Around a minute lead for Group Leukemans upfront with 17 kilometers left.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_11_24-Greenshot_zpsa93141ff.jpg

Never gonna give up? Cancellara tries a second attempt after the SKY doubletrouble failed. Gilbert is again very aware. Ladagnous is there to chase though, as is Greipel who is eyeing his third stage win here maybe.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_12_29-Greenshot_zpsa4e42ef8.jpg

At the 10 kilometer mark, Andrews (GRS) is clear of his fellow breakaway riders and EPIC may see a triumph of its dear youngsters. 30 seconds lead is quite something for those last 10 kilometers.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_13_52-Greenshot_zpsdfb43830.jpg

If you are wondering why Belkin is doing nothing yet: They are keeping Brouwer safe. Vanmarcke is guiding Brouwer through the cobblestones and they may think this is their best strategy to fulfill their season goal. Boy, Brouwer better deliver now, after having signed a deal a few days ago with Garmin-Sharp... Meanwhile, Cancellara goes on another attack but can’t drop Gilbert that easy.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_15_22-Greenshot_zps8dd9556c.jpg

5 kilometers left for Andrews and it surely hurts. But he is close to his biggest win as a Neo-Pro. Cancellara and Gilbert yet got caught again, especially since Gilbert does not see any reason to work for Cance, and Cancellara does not want to work with the Belgian on his wheel. Tricky.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_16_48-Greenshot_zps487cda4b.jpg

Big time drama for Garmin-Sharp, as Leukemans distanced the former break companions and now has Andrews in his sights. With a daring early solo chase, Leukemans might be already a bit over his limits?

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_18_02-Greenshot_zpse4d30064.jpg

Yet again another attack by Cancellara, as the group heads into Geraadsbergen. Ulissi, Boasson Hagen, Löwenherz and Thomas are quick to chase. But no Gilbert this time around?

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_19_13-Greenshot_zpsc458102b.jpg

Racing all over the place now in this final kilometer. The break soon catch up to the two front riders. Leukemans already wants to launch his sprint as Andrews struggles for the remaining meters.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_20_16-Greenshot_zpse381b2da.jpg

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_20_22-Greenshot_zps1cb39392.jpg

It’s Andrews by such a damn narrow margin! EPIC triumph for the youngster. Chapeau to Leukemans though, he performed stellar today.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_21_02-Greenshot_zpsd0bed79f.jpg

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_21_52-Greenshot_zpsca692848.jpg

Great finish by Boasson Hagen, who distanced Cancellara and several other riders and even overtook Astarloza. He put in quite a move to get to the podium, but those guys are close enough to limit the damage. Cancellara takes 9th, whilst Astarloza just barely saves himself for 10th and gets to take some points home.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Team%20NetApp%20-%20Endura/Eneco%202013/2014-09-2511_22_49-Greenshot_zpsaf6aa963.jpg

So in the end, Gilbert and BMC brought it home a safely. Le Bon takes a surprise 2nd place due to a strong Time Trial, the breakaway on stage 2 and standing his man in the two later stages. Cancellara completes the podium at last, whilst Boasson Hagen took over Löwenherz on that last day.

Points competition goes to Gilbert, whilst Minard takes home the polka dot on this very last day by one point. Very sad for Euskaltel – Euskadi, as they had needed such points to keep in the World Tour and now have got none out of it. U25 rider competition won by Le Bon. Best team is BMC, thanks to Gilbert’s stunning solo performance the other day.
