That they will, that they will...
Personally I am inclined to think the gradient might be a touch on the high side for him and Swift given 6% and above is reaching climber territory over longer distances. However, 'Bling' has looked better over the hillier stuff than the flat stuff so far this season, in my opinion.

I think it's possible that they can hang on, Bling might even save his jersey, all though I doubt that. But they have no chance in beating punchers in an uphill sprint after a climb with an average of 6%. |

I think the hillier sprinters will be there but I would go for a puncher to take the win with Matthews just about holding on to pink. |

Proof that the professionals know what they're talking about eh?
You'd never think so, considering it's their job...
Well, so you dont do your job when you dot like the part of it mate?
These are cycling professionals and that is all about suffering. They should look in which conditions their predecessors were riding. This is GT, so they should ride for the win. Who is in fear, can ride slowly, no one stops him from it...

I reckon that this could be good stage for Nathan Haas, Garmin are wounded after the TTT stage and I think it's a good finish for him if he's recovered well from his crash on stage 1. |

Intermediate sprint I suppose? Surprised to see Swifty in it though, thought he was a real contender today.

"Category C stages: (5 – 6 – 9 – 11) offer points for the first 15: 25, 22, 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. For the TV there are points for the first five: 10, 6, 3, 2, 1"
There are ten possibly valuable points on the line at the Intermediate Sprint for anyone who wants them. Perhaps the sprinters feel like they can wrack some the miles after yesterday's rather ridiculous, largely soft pedaled, stage.
While Swift, if he was being honest, has been quoted as saying he thought the finish would be too difficult without a flat bit after the climb for Swifty to win given the competition.

On BBC site:
Ben Swift: "It is likely to be a day when there will be a select group of riders at the finish. It's not a big mountain finish but it looks a decent kick up to Viggiano. I'd fancy it if this was finishing on the flat after the climb but there's not much point putting myself in the red to stay with a group who are more adept at ascending.

The intermediate sprint is taken out by Ben Swift, ahead of Elia Viviani and Tyler Farrar.

I believe so. It is now provisionally 119 (Viviani) plays 115 (Bouhanni), with Swifty all the way back now on 86 by my calculations.

Interesting that Viviani/Farrar/Swift were allowed off the front. The rest must not care about the victory in the red too much.

Pirazzi will go for Blue, not Red, surely? |

Either way. He is an expert in the break, so it surprises me that he hasn't jumped at all this week even. Maybe he's saving it for the later?

There's no big mountain points available, when there is then I'd expect him to attack. |
