Awesome result, but having looked at the route I'm sensing rather large groups in both U23 and Elite men. The downhill of Fiesole seems remarkably fast, and doesn't fancy a late Nibali or Sánchez-like attack, which I kinda hoped for.
I suspect the U23 will be anything from 15 to 40 riders together. Probably meaning Alaphilippe victory sometime later today, and Sagan win on sunday.

I think you're underestimating the difficulty of the climbs - especially late in the race. We'll see soon enough, though. |

Good news for anyone in the UK - the UCI Youtube channel won't be geoblocked for the UK for the Men's U23 Road Race. Since I've never had Eurosport for the Worlds in the past, it means this is the first time I can actually watch the U23 race

Really looking forward to this race. Hardly know any U23 boys except for the austrians, so I'm excited for the future stars. The road and landscape looks great btw, great ad for Toscana

1. Sprinter Yates
2. Alaphilippe
3. Van der Lijke
Outsiders: Sprinters like Ewan, Enger, Liepins; as well as some attacking Danes.
Great to finally watch a race from the start. Good luck Norway, and hope to see an Eiking in the break. |

If you expect punchy sprinters to take the medals, you have to put Stuyven in there somewhere.
I'm pretty excited as this is the first time I see Herklotz racing live. I hope he can stay with the lead group over the hills and put in a late attack.

Yeah, forgot him. Bettiol also a chance. Or son Zabel, can he ride well uphill? |

He is decent, but Germany should work for Herklotz.
Who had to overcome a cold early this month and has 3 race days in the last two months, so there might be a change depening on how the race pans out.

I dislike how far back Meintjes is sitting.

Yeah, and awesome timing for the first commercial break in Danish Television. They have had an hour and a half to put it in, without anything interesting happening, and then 5 minutes just as we hit the climb.

God who though it was a good idea to put the feed zone right at the start of the climb and going into a corner???

UCI? - Seems like a mental block of their style.

Their commentator has a sort of block as well, he insists that it's incredibly important to be in the first 20 positions of the peloton on this climb now.
Yeah. At the end. Not 120k out.
Herklotz basically dead last of the peloton over the top.

Looking at that, Ewan is still pretty decently placed. He would make a great champion! |

There are still 100k left, so position doesn't mean a lot right now. Only the weakest guys get dropped that early.
That said, he'd indeed deserve it, though if he wins on such a course as well, Sagan has to watch out
Barbero making a move already, so Spain seems to work for Fernandez.

Berhane did not go through the last two intermediates, but that might be caused by a bike change as he was 32nd the one before.
