Gilbert was the strongest, but as Kumazan said, he might have to face a much stronger opponent next year. Someone who can match him uphill and in a sprint. Not that I'm sad to see him again, really not at all...
If I was one of the Schleck (or, say, the guy who speaks in the ear speakers ), I'd have told them to not relay him. Even on the flat. Make him nervous and save a tad bit of energy. Then attack, even on the flat (yes, Gilbert is stronger than them on the flat, more than uphill), that where you benefit from dragging effects the most.
It was a bit reckless from Gilbert to attack that close to Saint Nicolas' summit. Not that he risked much against the Schlecks, but if he was that strong he could have attacked 1 or 2 km earlier and finished on his own, and if he was certain to beat them in a sprint, why even bother attacking ? Psychological effects at best. |

So I kinda just won my first big bet of the year. 26$ in the bank.
And in regards to Hesjedal, I think either I was right and he wasn't focusing on the Classics, or after AGR he decided not to focus, because I think he could have done much better.
Also Vanendert showing some potential. He was so great in PCM08 with the official db after two seasons.

It was exactly that. It was a way to say: "don't dare to attack, I'm the strongest here". |

Also, why did no one bother to try to respond to Andy's attack, the rest of the peleton literally just watched them go away
Everybody was dead , that happens a lot in LiƩge & Amstel. Otherwise they'd have reacted |

He had stomach trouble in AGR and he's also suffering from allergy and with the sudden and early rise in temperature, almost summer like, in the northern part of Central Europe it hit him hard.

Nope it was
1) Attack together on Roche aux Faucons
2) Ride alone to the finish showing the power of brotherly love
Unfortunately Gilbert followed, so they just pretended he wasn't there and continued with their strategy

Stop making jokes about the Schlecks, they did a good race and Gilbert is simply unbeatable |

To be fair, he did go away eventually. You know, when he sprinted away from them...

Did you hear the joke about Frank paying Fuentes just for training plans?

I think when you give it all but manage to get a 2nd or 3rd you should be satisfied. Add the fact that you lost to the best (no, not you Nuyens).

A Fuentes, a Frank and an Andy go into a pub....and the whole thing unfolds with a tedious inevitability...

Oh, so these Belgian blokes won all the 6 spring Classics..also not seen so often...
btw. what the hell Kreuziger 4th (I guess the best Czech result in a Monument ever)...he didn't seem very well in Trentino until the last stage...good for him, hope he'll make the Giro hard for the favourites... |
