RadioShack - 2010 Tour de France

Great job mate! I think it was really hard for Levi and Paulinho..especially Paulinho surprised me. So good luck for the next stages, really hope Levi will win this one Smile

tsmoha
Very good job, keeping Levi and Paulinho in leading position!

janne_837
Thank you Smile I was surprised, too. I did not expected that Levi and Sérgio would be able to finish with the same time as Scarponi.
Still 3 mountain stages to go...

26. May
Giro d'Italia
Stage 17: Brunico - Peio Terme, 175km
img510.imageshack.us/img510/3425/giroditaliaprofiles17.jpg
Interesting profile. The Passo della Palade, or Gampenjoch (18,65km; 6,6%), is a hard climb, but we do not expect hard attacking there, because after the top, the rider still have 67km to ride. So the decision will probably fall at the final climb to Peio Termo. Nibali, Basso and Sánchez should be motivated to attack us there.

Team goals:
- No time loss / Gain time if possible / Defend the leader jersey (Leipheimer)
- No time loss / Help Levi in critical situations (Paulinho, Machado)

Favourites: Ivan Basso, Vincenzo Nibali, Michele Scarponi, Levi Leipheimer, Simon Spilak
My tip: If he performs as well as yesterday, nobody shold be able to beat Vincenzo Nibali.

roturn
Of course Nibali wins there. Who else? Cool
But Leipheimer and Paulinho should be able to follow as the lat climb isn`t that steep.

I agree! Nibali wins there but Levi wins the Giro Smile

janne_837
Thank you Smile But I can already say that Nibali was not able to take the victory today, although he was the favourite:

Bressanone. 7 rider, Adam Hansen (Colombia), Jonas Aaen Jørgensen (SaxoBank), Edwin Carvajal (Miche), Björn Schröder (Milram), Xavier Florencio (Cervélo), Daniel Sesma (Euskaltel) and Lorenzo Bernucci (Lampre. Between them and the peloton, we saw three other rider: Mario Aerts (Omega Pharma), Davide Malacarne (QuickStep) and Christian Meier (Garmin).

The first move in the pack! Bauke Mollema and Marco Pinotti accelerated, but they were caught soon.

img440.imageshack.us/img440/2160/k2pcm0007v.jpg
The next interesting move came from our biggest danger in the overall, Luis León Sánchez. But he did not came away, too. (Thanks to Oliver Zaugg from Liquigas, who always closed the gaps between the attackers and the pack.)

img707.imageshack.us/img707/5046/k2pcm0008.jpg
5km left for the front group. They still have an advantage of 15 minutes, so todays stage winner shold be one of them.

img143.imageshack.us/img143/5137/k2pcm0009.jpg
1km to go (for the breakaway). Mario Aerts opened the sprint and...

img43.imageshack.us/img43/6140/k2pcm0010.jpg
...takes the stage win! Crazy gaps: +11" for Bernucci, Malacarne and Florencio; +28" Hansen, Sesma, Schröder and Jørgensen, +54" Carvajal and Meier.

img535.imageshack.us/img535/4879/k2pcm0011z.jpg
Seeing that except our guys, nobody makes pace for the peloton, Levi attacked!

img20.imageshack.us/img20/9766/k2pcm0012.jpg
With 1km to go, he is still in front, but Nibali, who attacked, too, almost closed the gap.

img826.imageshack.us/img826/8837/k2pcm0013.jpg
The uphill sprint. Nibai falled back soon, but Scarponi and Basso came from behind with highspeed. Basso passed Levi and finished as 11th, Levi and Scarponi as 12th and 13th in the same time like Basso.

img254.imageshack.us/img254/6985/k2pcm0014.jpg
Other crazy gaps: Nibali, Pozzovivo and Spilak lost 12 seconds to Gruppo Leipheimer, the Peloton with Pinotti, Garzelli, Sánchez, Paulinho and Machado, even 23 seconds.

Nice! You gained some more time on Sánchez, Nibali, etc...

Great!! That's some good advantage for the 2 mountains left.

And there's still an ITT left, right? Grin
But it's a short one, right? Sad

Tuco the Ugly
Too bad Paulinho lost some time there. But at least Sanchez lost more.

That's correct, the last stage is a 15 km long TT in Verona.

Thank you all Smile The last stage was really great, I think we have an advantage now, because Levi has still an excellent recovery. And there is still the short time trial at the last stage, there we should be able to get the leader jersey back if we would lose it.

27. May
Giro d'Italia
Stage 18: Levico Terme - Brescia, 152,1 km
img152.imageshack.us/img152/2751/giroditaliaprofiles18.jpg
The last flat stage, so the last chance for Impey and the other sprinter to take a stage victory. Espescially Robert Hunter and Óscar Freire should be motivated to fight out the battle for the points jersey.

Team goals:
- Top 10 (Impey)
- Avoid crashes / No time loss (Leipheimer, Machado, Paulinho)

Favourites: Óscar Freire, Robert Hunter, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Francesco Ginanni, Daniele Bennati.
My tip: I "hope" that Robert Hunter wins and can take the points jersey back (that does not mean that I do not like Freire, but I prefer Hunter.)

Depart in Levico Terme.

The first intermediate sprint at the Riva del Garda.
Only one rider in front Jan Bakelandts from Omega Pharma-Lotto. There were some more attacker, but why ever, the peloton did not let them go.
Óscar Freire took this opportunity to collect some more points.

With 21km left, Jan Bakelandts still have an advantage of 3'12". And his pace was still frightning (49 km/h)!

img153.imageshack.us/img153/9694/k2pcm0006.jpg
17km to go (for the pack!) and still 2'43" behind, though Rabobank, Garmin, Sky, Saxo Bank, Katusha and Liquigas are making pace in the peloton.

img709.imageshack.us/img709/1475/k2pcm0007.jpg
10km to go. Bakelandts with 2 minutes in front, but it seems that his former pace burned him out...

img143.imageshack.us/img143/5046/k2pcm0008.jpg
Bakelandts really lost ground, and with 5km to go, he was almost caught. Bad luck for the belgian puncheur.

img139.imageshack.us/img139/5137/k2pcm0009.jpg
With 2300m to the line, the final sprint begins. At the left McEwen as lead-out for Napolitano, in the middle Bennati, Farrar, Ginanni and Impey, at the right Furlan with his lead-out, Edvald Boasson Hagen and Julian Dean as lead-out for Robert Hunter.

img138.imageshack.us/img138/6140/k2pcm0010.jpg
Under the 1000m road sign, we see Robert Hunter in a good position. But the sprinter from Garmin already start to lose ground, he was too early in front. At the right Napolitano, who seems to be a good lead-out for Freire and Ginanni. Impey, who was at Ginannis backwheel, accelerated out of the slipstream, in hope that he do not get blocked to early.

img208.imageshack.us/img208/5613/k2pcm0011.jpg
300m to the line. Freire and Ginanni passed Napolitano. Bennati, already burned out, only at the fourth position, Impey 5th.

img8.imageshack.us/img8/9766/k2pcm0012.jpg
The next stage win for Óscar Freire! Without Petacchi, who had to gave up at stage 5, he is without competition and deserve the points jersey! Francesco Ginanni and Danilo Napolitano took the other places on the podium. Impey was able to pass Bennati and finished on a great 4th!

Good sprint with Impey. 4th is a good result for him.

Thanks Smile I agree, but it is already his sixth (seven with TT) Top10-Result here, and only one Top3. I hoped that he would be able to improve himself...

28. May
The future of Mirco Lorenzetto is not fixed. It seems that CarmioOro and Lampre are both interested in signing him up for 2011.

The fourth (and last) signature of a young rider for RadioShack. Matthew Nicholson finished 5th at the Ronde de l'Isard, and the four rider which beat him are all at least 20, while Nicholson is only 18 years old. This argument convinced us to sign him up as trainee with a three year contract.

Quite good I think. Good climber, strong against the clock and a good recovery. My only (little) doubts are that his hill stat is quite low and his weak abilities on cobblestones.

Giro d'Italia
Stage 19: Brescia - Aprica, 195km
img209.imageshack.us/img209/6440/giroditaliaprofiles19.jpg
Todays stage has three hard climbs: The first after 114km in Aprica (where the stage will finish later), the second one, the Passo di Santa Cristina (11km, 7,5%) only 16km behind and the last and probably hardest climb with 31km left: The Passo del Mortirolo (12,8km, 10,3%), which gives Nibali, Basso etc. a good opportunity to attack us. But the downhill and the "easy" finish in Aprica suits Levi, so I think he will not lose much time today.

Team goals:
- No time loss / Gain time if possible / Defend the leader jersey (Leipheimer)
- No time loss / Help Levi in critical situations (Paulinho, Machado)

Favourites: Ivan Basso, Vincenzo Nibali, Michele Scarponi, Levi Leipheimer, Domenico Pozzovivo.
My tip: I think another breakaway will make it to the finish today. If not, the stage winner will be the same as irl, Michele Scarponi.

Porte
Great job keeping the 1-2 all this time. Keep it up, your nearly there!

And your signing, looks really promising, the only worry as you pointed out is his low hill stat. But other than that he looks to be a very good prospect.

lluuiiggii
Great young rider, but... cobblestones? Are you more careful after last TdF that featured a cobble stage? Or did I miss something?? Smile

And good luck for stage 19, 3 to go!!

roturn
Same here. Good signing. Also very important is the nice stamina stat. Many young riders have a very bad stat there.
So a bit more improvement in flat and hill and he should be alright.

baia
Good signing...and very good result with Impey.

Like baia said: Very good with Impey! Though you didn't get that final win with him.. but 4th almost feels like a win Smile
