Enrico Rossi dominated so far Tour de Picardie and he is looking for the third stage win but today's stage is shorter and flatter than the previous two so the Sky main sprinter, Ben Swift might be a bigger threat
As expected the stage head to a mass sprint. Flecha was again the fastest rider in the pack in the early meters of the sprint but this time the Rabobank train made by Van Emden followed him quite closely, which meant a battle between Leezer and Swift, while Rossi was caught somewhere behind them
But inside the last kilometer, Swift spent just too much time behind Downing's wheel and the only thing he could do was following Leezer to secure the second place behind the Dutch rider
Tom Leezer wins the third stage of Tour de Picardie in front of Ben Swift, while Rossi's team - mate Colli took the third place. Enrico Rossi finished just 7th today but that's more than enough to keep the yellow jersey before the last stage

Today's stage is the third one with an uphill finish but it looks way easier than the previous two, especially the yesterday's one. The final climb climbs doesn't look hard enough to make any differences and we should see a fight between the strongest sprinters in the pack, Boasson Hagen being our leader for today
Riders such as O'Grady, Tjallingii and Vansummeren were in the breakaway today but with the flat profile and no categorized climbs on the route, Ignatiev's green jersey was save. The escapes didn't stand a chance for the stage win either all being caught before the final climb thanks mainly to Chris Froome
There were no attacks on the final climb and with the 5 kilometers banner passed the mass sprint was approaching. Arvesen and Gerrans tried to build up a train for Hagen and even though it looked quite good at the begin they lost the lead later to the Acqua & Sapone train made by Failli and Paolini
The Acqua & Sapone riders were followed by the Vacansoleil train and inside the last 2 kilometers of the stage, it was Traksel who made the big move, being closely followed by the former pink jersey wearer, Boasson Hagen
Inside the last kilometer, Boasson Hagen made his move and it looked like it was going his way for an while, with Paolini securing the third place behind him and Traksel
But the Dutch managed to hang on against Hagen's acceleration and got his third stage win! Still those three wins aren't enough to take the points jersey, which is held by Boasson Hagen even though he has only one stage win
As expected there were no major GC changes and Wiggins had a calm day in his first stage rode with the pink jersey. There's a still long way to the finish but it's already looking for the Brit with his main rivals more than 2 minutes behind him

The fourth stage of Tour de Picardie is also the last one. Enrico Rossi has a nice chance to get the overall win today but Haedo, Leezer or Swift might be able to stop him if they get enough bonification seconds
The escapes had no chance against the pack and the stage head to the expected mass sprint. But Flecha wasn't as strong as yesterday and it was Cervelo who dominated the sprint, with Swift trying to follow them
Inside the last kilometer 3 riders step in to fight for the stage win: Hammon, Swift and Veelers, while the yellow jersey, Enrico Rossi was stuck behind somewhere around the 10th place
It was a very close finish between Veelers and Swift, but Veelers couldn't bring the second win in France for the Netherlands and it was Ben Swift who got his second win this season
Also with the bonification seconds won, Ben Swift managed to win three of the classifications including the general one even though he had the same time as Enrico Rossi

A mass sprint is expected for the 10th stage of Giro d'Italia. Traksel and Boasson Hagen are the main favorites as they are looking to get the 4th and the 2nd win respectively
The King of the Mountains jersey wearer, Ignatiev, was in the day's main breakaway but he failed to achieve any other points. Still nobody in the breakaway was close enough to put his jersey in danger. On the long downhill section before the finish all the escapes were caught all by one and the pack head to the mass sprint
Three trains were controlling the pack before the 5 kilometers banner. Ivanov was leading the pack for Katusha and Pozzato, while Acqua & Sapone were trying to keep it up with the Russian
Still when the actual sprint started, Katusha were gone, while Acqua & Sapone were struggling to keep it up with Sky, with Vigano leading Hagen into the final kilometers
Before the last kilometer banner, Boasson Hagen took the lead from Vigano and it looked like he was heading to his second stage win, with his opponents being left behind
Ginanni and Pozzato came very close in the final meters to take the second spot from Vigano but it was too late to stop Boasson Hagen, who takes his second stage win in this year's Giro and consolidates the points jersey lead

Today's stage is quite a long one and there are a few impressive climbs on the route including the one at the finish but we will have to see if there are going to be any gaps between the favorites. A sprint between the strongest riders in the pack should be expected today
For the first time in this ear's Giro, a Sky rider was present in the main breakaway of the day. Kurt Asle Arvesen attacked on the first climb of the day but he was joined in front only by Posthuma. It was very hard for them to hold on in front of the pack in such a long stage and they were both caught at the foot of the last categorized climb of the day
But on that last real climb of the stage there were some interesting moves and only 42 riders were left in the pack for the last 30 kilometers of the stage. Moreau, Tiralongo and Arroyo were the big names that were missing from the first groups, as well as Cioni and Pauwels. Three Sky riders were still hanging on: Wiggins, Boasson Hagen and Simon Gerrans
The three Sky riders tried to build up a train with Gerrans in the last position but they failed to do so because of the wind and an unorganized pack. As the pack was approaching the final climb of the day, Wiggins and Hagen were at the back of the pack resigned with not being able to fight for the stage win
As soon as the pack reached the final climb of 1 kilometer long, 3 riders powered away: Luis Leon Sanchez, Tony Martin and Stefano Garzelli. Behind the Katusha riders were leading the pack while the Sky riders found themselves in a hard situation with Sanchez being a real threat for Wiggins
Inside the last kilometer it was clear that it was going to be between those 3 for the stage win but it was still unclear who will get it even though Garzelli seemed a little slower than the other 2 attackers
Sanchez held on in front of Martin in the last meters of the climb and took his second stage win after the one from the prologue. But the big news are that the second group lost no less than 47 seconds to the 3 leading riders
Forty - seven seconds and 20 bonification ones means that Luis Leon Sanchez gets back the pink jersey, which he lost after the second stage to Boasson Hagen and then to Wiggins, who is now 11 seconds behind Sanchez, but the Brit looked stronger than the Spaniard in the only real mountain stage we had so far

Too bad about the overall lead, but I guess you'll get it back when you hit some serious mountains.
Love the picture of Sanchez, Martin and Garzelli attacking in that steep bend in the road! It oozes determination and drive |

On paper, Wiggins is a far stronger climber than Sanchez so there should be no problems taking those 11 seconds back when the high mountains come.
I felt that I could get a nice picture at the start of the last climb and I guess I found the right angle to take it
