thanks a lot Camenzind
Stage 17
Last flat stage before final part of race. BOTD still hold the lead more than 10 minutes with 30km to go.
Luckily I made at least this picture, game crashed again after finish. Nicolas Jalabert won the sprint ahead of Scheirlinckx and Kostyuk. Peloton came 9 minutes later. No important changes in GC happened.
Only 4 stages are still ahead of us and we are waiting for answers to following questions. Upcoming stages fit better to Sanchez, will Contador keep gold jersey until Madrid? Who will win thrilling competition for best climber? Will Garzelli defend his 5th place and Masciarelli his white jersey? Upcoming days will let us see, stay tuned!

I don´t know yet...it also depends which teams will be "free for use". Only teams we can cut out at this moment are THC (Batista), Sky (alex), Xacobeo (Guido), Androni (Maximka), Garmin (Bosskardo) and Milram (Jaccan)...Hope I´m not wrong and all these stories are still alive
Why don't you want to proceed with A&S but only in 2010?

Stage 18
We are back in the mountains.
BOTD - Martin, Lagutin and Lorenzetto. They divided most of KOM points between themselves today.
Francesco collected nice sum of points as well and extended his lead in KOM competition!
While Lorenzetto and later on Lagutin were caught by the P., good climber Daniel Martin stayed still with great advantage alone in front and rode for glorious victory.
Samuel Sanchez attacks in last hill, he feels one of last chance to threat Maillot oro.
Carlos Sastre and Mosquera quickly follow...
...and then Contador, Garzelli and some other riders. Main contenders stayed together and created strong group behind lonely Martin.
10km for Martin! His win is almost certain!
Alberto Contador attacked in the most unexpected place - in downhill! It was such surprising move that stunned all other riders! He built gap over one minute and is geting closer to Martin!
Martin cracked completely in last kilometres, Contador joins him before last kilometer mark! But Alberto is visibly struggling too...
...and here comes Sanchez, he is by far faster then leading duo!
Samuel Sanchez wins the stage and keeps his dreams about overall win alive! Seven riders including Garzelli came in same time as winner, while e.g. Menchov lost another time. 5th place overal seems to be closer again!

You see that a lot more in PCM that guys like Albasini, Cunego or other fast climbers win a bunch sprint. It's because their recuperation is a lot better and after three weeks, most of the sprinters really suffered!

Great race from Garzelli.Only bad luck will take Mosquera from his 4th place, but Garzelli must not and can not asleep, because Joaquím Rodriguez finished 3rd and is almost just 2min. from 5th placed Garzelli,...watch him out. |
