Volta a Portugal
So it has finally come to that part of the season where the biggest race in the portuguese calendar takes place! Yes the Volta a Portugal is here! For those who are not familiar with it I must aware this stage race is no ordinary stage race. In fact it assumes an minor-GT status. just take a look at the facts:
1. it's the biggest, and I dare, the best HC race in the UCI calendar
2. it has its mythic places where the race is decided such as Torre (our own Mount Ventoux) and Sra da Graça
3. it has been a 3-week race for a big part of its history
4. it has its own heroes such as Joaquim Agostinho (the portuguese Merckx) Vitor Gamito (the portuguese Poulidor) and many more...
So to sum up, Volta a Portugal is the reason why kids start riding their bikes, it is the reason why all the other sports take a break during this period of the year, it is the real reason why we do have holidays!!
LA MSS - Póvoa de Varzim has a history of success in Volta with 5 overall victories achieved by Jekker (2001), Moller (2002), Bernabéu (2004), Tondo (2007) and last year Angel Vicioso who conquered the yellow in front of our team leader for this year Tiago Machado!

Thanks people
---------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 1
We started good wtih Haedo taking the first sprint
The break containing our Faria along with Salvi, Jurco, Magalhães, Le Lay, Missaglia and Sousa.
Faria takes the 2nd sprint...
...as well as the first KoM points
Perez Cuapio chases in the pack.
André Vital is the one starting the bigger moves with 22km to go
Lefévre, Velits, Txurruka and Zaballa go with him
anothe group leaves the pack: José Rodrigues, Iñigo Cuesta and... José Azevedo!!
The thrill doesnt stop. This time is Mazzanti who takes Trofimov, Pozzovivo, Machado, Iglinsky and Dueñas with him!
More attacks come at the front where the groups merge... Faria and Zaballa stay behind in an attempt to drag Machado...
Fortunately our national champ enters the group again! 10km to the finnish
After those last hills 2 men stayed all alone at the front: Helder Magalhães and David Le Lay!
The attacks start all over again and Machado struggles once more...
The favourites end up creating a 2nd group behind the front duo... 3.5km to the line.
Magalhães starts the sprint...
The end of the stage is heart-stopping crazy with a complete chaos in the race situation among the 2 pursuiting groups!
But the victory goes to Hélder Magalhães! A portuguese wins in his very own Tour!
The end of the stage is pretty messy behind the first 2 men... I wonder what the judges will say...
Vital celebrates his team mate's achievment with great enthusiasm!
as Machado finishes in the tail of the group...

Stage 2
The BOTD Lafuente, Cabedo, King and Herrada...
They were naturally caught. In the last few kms sprinters started positioning themselves. Dall'Antonia and Swift seemed to be the best placed riders...
But as the sprint starts Westra passes everyone with Martias on his wheel!
The victory will certainly go to Bouygues...
Westra is the one who takes it in front of his team mate!
In 3rd another Bouygues! It's Said Haddou who beats Dall'Antonia! 1-2-3 fantastic day for the french team!

Stage 3
The BOTD with 8 men
As the pack reaches the main climb Ochoa attacks!
But niether Astana nor Elk Haus let him go...
Nobody dares anything till th end of the climb where Lefévre makes his move!
Vital goes with him
As well as the rest of the favourites
Trofimov only attacks in the flat terrain
Meanwhile Machado is reabsorved...
But he punches back with Macebo right away
In the last 15km the front group becomes really selective
But Rodrigues still tries his chance with a slight inclination
However he doesnt succeed.. 5km to the finish
Tiago takes Cuesta's wheel
But hit reveals to be a bad decision!! The front men create a gap!!
The man in orange rides away from the others...
And he delivers another one for Bouygues!! Great sprint by Trofimov!
Machado finishes 11th... Nobody dares to mess with us after our manifestation. Tiago's given the same time as the winner

Stage 4
Mythic stage to Sra da Graça!
We tried to place Bruno in the creak o f the day but the group never worked together
The pack reaches the penultimate climb and we launch an attack with Cabreira!
However he isnt able to create a gap at all. Trofimov takes the oportunity to make a move!
Cuesta goes with him
Duarte, Lefévre, Txurruka and José Azevedo drive away from the peloton as well!
Nevertheless nobody is able to get a gap on the bunch.
And so a group of 43 men reaches the bottom of Mount Farinha which will take them to the top - Alto da Sra da Graça
Perez Cuapio pushes hard at the front!!
Duarte attacks taking Azevedo and Lefévre with him!
O Tiago maintains himself in the main group. Suffering though...
Rodrigues makes his move too
Anyway Txurruka is th e first to build a gap on the group!!
2.5km to the summit and Tiago starts to feel the pain on his legs!!
Time for Pozzovivo's move! Vital and Cuesta are there too! Can this be decisve?!
Rorhegger reches them...
As Tiago continues burrying himself
The sprint starts at the front!!
A 2-men duel now...
And the victory goes to Pozzovivo crowning the work of his teammates!!
A set of other riders finish within a few seconds...
A while later comes the yellow jersey group...
And only then Tiago Machado... this is starting to look really bad for us..

Stage 6
Cabreira was in the 5-men breakaway
80km to go - the attacks in the peloton begin with Paulinho, Brutt and Garzelli
Azevedo joins them
As well as Trofimov, Lefévre and Mancebo!
More fireworks launched by Tinkoff: Cuesta, Duarte, Vital and Velits are also on the attack!
T.Machado patiently waits until the moves of Pozzovivo and Rohregger and he follows them to reach the group newly-formed!
But that group turns out to become a failure... for almost 30km nobody relays for a sole meter, which provokes constant attacks between the favorites.
Fortunately Machado is balancing quite well his energies despite the constant boosts.
At last with 15km to go, Machado gets the help of Cabreira whose group has just been caught!
3km to the finish and surprisingly there are no attacks whatsoever!
That last climb is really tougher than it looked! Those 15% gradient shatter the group... both of our men are in front nontheless!
But Pozzovivo gets himself a small gap in the final km...
And that's enough for him to conquer another victory!
But there's still a sprint going on and Tiago Machado is well positioned!
And he finishes 3rd behind Rohregger. Nice stage, however, seems like our luck is changing!

Stage 7
The Queen stage to Torre
Xavier Tondo is our man in today's break
Nothing happens until Paulinho's attack 85km away from the finish line
Perez, Garzelli and Ochoa join him later in the climb
Dueñas, Reig and Vital do the same
But as there's still a lot to climb in the stage they let themselves being caught by the pack
...excepting Paulinho, Perez and Garzelli who continue their demand catching the early escapees one by one.
The climb to Torre appears in the horizont! What a view!
the 20km climb is initiated with Navigare leading the peloton as always
With only 2km Velits attacks as Tondo is being absorved!
Azevedo, Txurruka and Lefévre are the next to try their luck!
And surprisingly Rohregger makes his move with still 16km to go up in the mountain!
Trofimov is the next to escape
Pozzovivo doesnt wait much longer to counter his austrian rival!
With the majority of the favourites in the front Tiago decides to attack at last!
After him Fábio Duarte and André Vital arrive as well!
then Petrov...
But at this point Pozzovivo has got himself a gap! All the diquigiovanni men can do is maintain it!
Rodrigues and Dueñas after a lot of time in the pack attack too
But as we gradually aproach the top the group starts to shatter
Pozzovivo finally catches the long-time escapee Garzelli!
However in the last 2km Rohregger and Dueñas catch up with him!
The stage looks to be decided between these 3 men
And it's another one for Pozzovivo! An hattrick actually! His lead in the GC is really cemented now!
Tiago arrives in the next group. It wasn't a bad stage. In fact it went quite good. Now let's hope we can recover all that time in the final TT!
