Great game, 2 very good goals from Holland, especially Van Nistelrooy's bit of skill to set up their 2nd

Great game of Holland, I must say I'm surprised they are outplaying 2 of the biggest favorites for the title like this... I honestly had my doubts that van Basten could make anything out of this, since the qual wasn't good at all, but he's definately proven me wrong. Good job! |

THe last goal was a disaster for France if you look at the table.
Now it look like this:
1. Holland 2 2 0 0 7-1 6
2. Romania 2 0 2 0 1-1 2
3. France 2 0 1 1 1-4 1
4. Italy 2 0 1 1 1-4 1
As you see now, France and Italy are identic. Since they meet each other in the last game France have to win to stay in front of Italy. Otherwise they could have gone through with a draw if Romania lost with more than 2 goals to Holland.
Look:
Without the last goal and 3rd round results: Holland - Romania 2-0, Italy - France 1-1
2. France 3 0 2 1 2-4 2
3. Romania 3 0 2 1 1-3 2
4. Italy 3 0 2 1 2-5 2
Here France go through because they scored more goals than Romania, and Italy has worse goal difference. But now since France conceded that last goal, they will always be exactly on the same position as Italy if they draw, so they must win to go through now.
You understand? |

The "group of death" is living up to it's name nicely
It would be great if Romania can knock both Italy and France out, but it's highly unlikely, because the Dutch are flying. This is a great group, the only poor match has been Romania - France, all the others have been brilliant to watch.

Am I dreaming???
We beat both World Champion finalists 3-0 and 4-1.. What the FUCK is going on? We couldn't even beat Romania in the quals...
I'm simply dumbfounded. How is this possible??? |

Thing is the dutch have nothing too play for against romania so they wont really push it, i can see them playing out a dull 0-0 and romania scraping through

Now the Dutch are going to be nice enough to let Romania win and kick France and Italy out their asses.

I don't necceserialy(not right i know)think they are going to do that. Holland hat a whole lot of trouble facing Romania in the qual., so they wouldn't risk to lose to them again in the semies.

Is the Italy - France played first or the Romania match? Cause if the Italy match is played first and ending up with a draw we will see Romania with 9 defenders... |

precisely because of that, both games will be at the same time. That's always the case with the last game of each group. it's in the rules.

They didnt have anything to play for at the end of the France match but Sneijder still scored an awesome goal

What do you think is more likely? Holland losing to France or Italy in the semis or losing to Romania?
If their smart, that's what they'll do...

Yeah but Sneijder's goal was just a shot pretty much, whereas thier goals against Italy and thier other goals were lovely sweeping moves on the counter attack. I cant Imagine the dutch sweeping foreards in numbers if they dont need too. The hope for france and Italy is that the wingers will all be looking over their shoulders trying too ensure that they are starting in the quaters

We'll. Their results against France and Italy showeds that they can beat every team. And since they have been broken by romania before, i don't think they are way more willing to play the Romanians. |

Spain will beat Romania in the semi final anyway, against France or Italy they (Spain) will have a harder match. I think its prety much the same for the Ntherlands if they meet Spain, Italy or France in the semifinals. |
