15/9-22/9 2014 Tour of Britain (cat 2.1)

22/9 Stage 8: London – London 88.6 km

Christina: The caravan has traveled 50 km northeast from Guildford to London, for the final stage of the tour.
There is evidence of early Bronze Age on the south bank of Thames, but it seems that a major London settlement was first created by the romans in the first century AD.

A Roman mosaic floor from Londinium (British Museum)

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/Londinium_mosaic_retouched_zps4oj0rbdx.jpg

Pre-race strategy: Priority is to get Schumacher safely over the line.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/0_zps3mf2xltg.jpg

With a short stage of only 88 km, the pace is very high, right from the start. The peloton does everything to keep things together. But eventually 8 riders get away.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/1_zpsf2uftzoy.jpg

The pace continues to be high all day, very hard for many riders. The breakaway is strong and able to keep the peloton away, holding on to a 2 minutes lead. Getting within the last 10-12 km, Leonardo Duque (Colombia) attacks from the breakaway, while the peloton is now getting closer.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/2_zps7htcn3rs.jpg

But the peloton never gets close enough, and the first 3 over the line is all from the break, Leonardo Duque wins the stage over Aurélien Passeron (Cofidis). We do our best to set up a sprint train, but our riders are all tired after a hard tour and we never gets close enough to the front. Our best is Francisco José Pacheco (13).

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/3_zpsskkqzeqt.jpg

Christina: Never mind this stage, we took the GC, the KoM and the Team classification, All management and the sponsors will be very pleased.

6/10 Tour de Vendée (cat 1.HC)

La Ferrière - La Roche-sur-Yon 198.6 km

Rasmussen: Just last night Stefan Schumacher was reported sick, and we won’t us him in the race, not to put any additional street on his illness. Mitchell Lovelock-Fay is chosen to stand in, and becomes our leader.
The race is a single stage race in Vendée department in the Pays de la Loire region in western France. In the department many evidences of Stone Age settlements have been found, later the Celtic Pictones tribe settled the area. The Celtics created many towns in the department until the Roman conquest.

Roster:
Anton Grøn
Daniele Aldegheri
Marc Hester
Mitchell Lovelock-Fay
Morten Høberg
Philip Nielsen
Simon Bigum
Sondre Holst Enger

Pre-race strategy: We are not quite sure how the race will evolve, but our expectations are that it will be a sprint finish, hoping for Sondre Holst Enger.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/0_zpsqs4w2yva.jpg

A morning break of 3 riders gets away, not any very strong riders.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/1_zps05b8n81r.jpg

On the first hills, Mitchell Lovelock-Fay attacks and gets in contact with the front group with about 150 left.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/2_zpsdx5xzbpi.jpg

But the group is not strong enough to keep a fast peloton away; they are caught with about 20 km left. We set a sprint train for Holst Enger.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/3_zpsoduyysxk.jpg

But our train is not strong enough to get up front, the stage is won by Michael Matthews in a mass sprint. Our best was Sondre Holst Enger.

21/10 Japan Cup (cat 1.HC)

Utsunomiya City 184.4 km

Rasmussen: We are here in Utsunomiya for the Japan Cup, our last race of the season. Utsunomiya is a city of about 500.000 125 km north of Tokyo. The area has been continuously settled since at least 14.000 BC, The city developed around a Shinto shrine Futarayama-jinja, said to be founded in 353 AD.

Roster:
Angelo Furlan
Daniele Aldegheri
Frederik Wilmann
Marc Hester
Philip Nielsen
Simon Bigum
Sondre Holst Enger
Stefan Schumacher

Pre-race strategy: We hope for Stefan Schumacher to compete in this race, he is no longer sick.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/0_zpsvdix3vfd.jpg

An early break of 5 riders gets a gap of about 5 minutes.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/1_zpsyb3kq2gg.jpg

It is hard to get water bottles forward on the constant ups and downs. Philip Nielsen getting water for the team:

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/2_zpsxhexafvo.jpg

Within the last 30 km the peloton speeds up at close the gap to the front group, the hard pace forces the weaker riders the fall out of the bunch.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/3_zpsg7hx5zd6.jpg

After the break is caught, a new more serious attack by Wilco Kelderman (Belkin Pro Cycling Team) and Igor Antón (Liberty Seguros – Würth) 15 km to the line. Stefan Schumacher manages to stay with a 2nd group of 11 riders.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/4_zps0rvjmlgv.jpg

The race is won by Igor Antón (Liberty Seguros) over Wilco Kelderman (Belkin), Schumacher gets in as 8th, in the same time as the winner.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/5_zps7gv3qowz.jpg
