sutty68 - Yeah, he won't give in easily
Dippofix - It still can turn into any kind of movie you want it to That's true, Nico could help Henry a lot and go for a stage win somewhere now.
Selwink - Yeah, counting down
duxili - That might be the reason red suits him, yeah Roche, it really was too bad. I bad controlling him at the time of the split (Henry was good at the front) and it was just in front of him. If the split was three riders later, he would've been with them.
Atlantius - That's true. No more luxury of having several riders ready for the GC, but at least a clear GC leader now.
anderspcm - Me neither. However, top 10 (or top 5) is still the goal, so still going great!
Shonak - Hesjedal and Nibali will gain quite some time in the flat long time trials. To be honest, I wish Valverde had taken the Red Jersey by one second. But maybe tomorrow he was strike. Either way, we have to keep doing our best
Well, I will have to slow down a little bit. I have an exam on Saturday and I really have to get this stuff in my head. So I guess it'll slow down until Saturday.
Still might get a report or two in between, it'll depend on how fast I can work, but exam comes first now |

Good news! Well, actually it's bad news, buy anyway:
Some bacteria got to me, so I'm in too much pain to concentrate enough to study and sit up straight at the table. That means laying on the couch and play PCM after all.
My exam might not go that good, but I'll probably get a 2nd chance in August then... |

Thanks a lot, mate
But it's well known, if you study to be a teacher (or a doctor, too), you can expect to be ill a lot in the first years. But in the long run you get resistent to all of those things.

Two days went by. Going to Paris sure wasn't as easy as I thought. Because of the hard training and the doctor appointments, I couldn't just leave. However, the weekend was coming closer, I could go then.
My engagement ring (well, the one I bought for Sofia) was burning a hole in my pocket. She had no idea. The rest of the week, she slept over. She was just as serious with me as I was with her.
I knew because she was looking for a job around here. She wanted to move here, away from Italy, away from her family, just for me.
The days went by...
Friday evening finally arrived, so I would finally go to Paris.
As I opened the door to get to my car, I found two people standing on my doorstep.
"Mr. Vergnaud?"
"Yes?"
"Can we come in, please?"
"Sure, officer..."
Another three stages have passed.
Vuelta a España - Stages 6 - 8
Stage 6 This is a tough stage. Luckily the temperatures have dropped a bit, it's only 32°C in the shadow right now.
As Vuelta tradition dictates, the race only got interesting when the road started to rise. I took some risk today. I did not jump to any attacks.
Valverde saw this and fired off. Some teammates tried to keep the tempo high enough to catch them, but I knew we were losing ground...
Things were getting critical. I put myself at the front and made the pace myself. Meanwhile, the attackers were fighting for the victory of the day.
I crept closer and closer. Maybe I wasn't too late to save my skin!
The attackers had made a big mistake in not leaving enough energy for the final kilometer, my specialty indeed! I passed Valverde and Rodriguez in the final 200 meters, they had no energy left.
Vanendert took the win. I lose my Red Jersey with only 4 seconds. Which, actually, might be best after all right now.
Stage 7 - 8 Two stages for the sprinters. And when I say sprinters, I mean Cavendish, really.

Analysis & Daily Thoughts So far, so good for me. However, there are two days left until the first rest day. Tomorrow is the time trial, my least favorite subject, especially since it's a flat one...
I hope not to lose too much time there...
I'll report back on the rest day, about the TT and the following mountain stage!
Henry

Oho, sounds like there was an accident or something with Becca.
Astana having the red jersey should play into Henry's cards. They have a strong team to counter attacks by Valverde and Purito, especially with Citigroups support, and it will leave Henry open to attack when he sees fit.

As Shonak and you says it might be good for Citigroup not having to do all the work the next days. After all things are still extremely close...
...and I sense a plot-twist coming up?

Oh i really don't think i like where this is going.
And Nibbles in red should make it easier for Henry, with Astana taking a lot of the workload off Henry's and Citigroup's shoulders.

Shonak - Yeah, it's good to not have the pressure of that jersey now. Anyway, even hanging on to a 2nd place would be better than I ever expected!
Atlantius - There may be a little twist coming, yes The TT will open up the race more, I think!
Dippofix - Very true. That way we can use our strong climbing squad to put the pressure on later in the race
Thanks, guys! Next update definitely today. I guess between 7 and 8 pm. |

"Oh My God..."
I couldn't believe it.
"Are you okay, sir?"
What did he think, was I okay? Yeah, peachy, just peachy.
"And where is she now?"
I just had to see her. Right away.
"Don't worry, sir, she's in good hands," the short cop told me.
"She's in Paris General Hospital," the other one added.
I rushed to my car. Becca, hold on, I'm coming.
First rest day.
Finally!!!
This Vuelta seems tougher than my first, but maybe that's because I'm at the front of the GC, fighting for every second now.
Vuelta a España - Stages 9 - 10
Stage 9 That's a long time trial for a short guy like me...
Luckily it wasn't all flat. There was some up and down to the profile.
Approaching the finish line, Nibali came out of the last corner. I finished just in front of him, but the problem was that I started 2 minutes earlier.
Stage 10 If you'd ask me, one of the toughest mountain stages of this Vuelta. Especially since this is the 10th consecutive day of racing.
Once again I was a bit hesitant at the first attacks. No wasting energy too early on.
Then I heard Van Impe's name in my ear.
"Nibali is way at the front. Make your move now! Manresa, push him forward!"
Thanks to the help of my team mates, I joined the front group. Now we were ready for the final battle before the first rest day.
The pace was dropping. I wanted to avoid team mates of Valverde coming back so I went to the attack.
I had to keep the pace high. It was killing me but every time someone dropped out of our group, I got new motivation to push through!
I only had the Vuelta's leader in my wheel. With energy to spare, he stole the victory of the day away from me. I couldn't do squat. Too bad, I felt I had a shot today!

Analysis & Daily Thoughts Despite missing out on the win of the day and performing quite bad at the time trial, I'm still very happy here. It's obvious I'm as strong as I was before my big crash, maybe even stronger still. I'm still very high placed here and I can start to dream of a top 5.
Van Impe seemed very happy to announce two new team mates, who will arrive in October and enforce our squad for next season.
They are TT World Champion Thomas De Gendt and German climbing talent Dominik Nerz.
With Nerz and Herklotz, we'll have the top of the German climbers.
As good as those signings are, we're sad to see Rick Zabel go. He expressed disappointment at the lack of support for him. We have a weak lead-out and he feels he could do so much better. I understand him, but we'll miss him.
Anyway, mostly good news today, right?
Things are looking up indeed!

Did I say Top 5 for the Vuelta?
Could only have been a miss click, I meant Top 2 of course
Still better than the guy targeting a Top 10
I am sure Becca will recover fast. I bet this rin you got in your pocket will speed up the recovery a lot

Roughly on 1'30'' on Nibali is absolutely okay and could be expected. Now it's time to take back that time in the mountains since Valverde is almost a minute behind now.
