Great day for Puccio but slightly surprised he made it to the end.
Would have thought the intended last 5 would've included Knees or Siutsou in it? Didn't watch the stage so unsure if there was a mechanical, they went hard early on or some other reason?
A quote from Puccio suggests the plan was for Cataldo to take the lead so clearly someone else was expected to figure in the top 5 but great effort from him.
Greenedge way down but apparently they didn't get to recce the course, something rather important on such a challenging TTT course.

Yes, they intended to put Cataldo in the pink jersey, but they didn't know the exact rules. They thought the rider that crosses the finish line first from the team will take the pink jersey (which was Cataldo), but yesterday's stage classification was also taken into account when making the GC.

Ah right, thanks.
Lack of attention to detail from Sky, whatever next
Still surprised Puccio was the 5th rider though.

Puccio is rather strong this season, most can't see him considering he works in early parts of races mostly. I think he showed at SanRemo already his good pedigree where he should have made with first bunch if not that crash.
He's clearly coming with great form to the race considering Sky choose him over Kennaugh.

Yes, good point. Given today's ride he's clearly in good shape. |

On catch up but apprently no teams got a 1st hand look at the TTT route given the difficulty in getting to the island (apart from one practice lap this morning of course) not just Greenedge amongst the leading contenders as I mentioned above https://velonews.competitor.com/2013/0...ial_284888 |

Am I the only one who is also a bit surprised by VCD's 10th place. Last year they were one the slowest teams and now they get 10th with what doesn't look like a better team.
Shame they perform last year like this when they had De Gendt. |

Indeed a great ride by Team SKY https://www.teamsky.com/photos/0,27286...48,00.html
Puccio was so lucky wearing the Maglia Rosa.

Really nice TTT by Sky Nice to hand the pink over to an italian. Great sportsmanship from Wiggins there! |

I'd call it tactics rather than sportsmanship, actually.
Would only be a problem for Wiggo if he had to protect the jersey already.

This.
Sky is tackling this Giro, like usual, very professionally and tactically. I wonder if Nibali or someone else will be able to ruin their plans. |

Nah. It would be as easy as to let an unimportant breakaway make it to the finish. If they don't want to defend from that early, they wouldn't, simple as that.

todays final 40km are reported to be technical and.. wet. Dunno if it still will be wet when they reach the final. But there are possibilities for Nibali here |

Yeah, would be nice if Nibali tries something yet today, he needs to start putting time on Wiggo early, but not risk much.

"Word has it that the roads are drying out at the finish, and that will certainly change the nature of how the peloton tackle the finishing descent."
It's from cyclingnews, so not completely reliable, but if it's true, we might see some attacks |
