Boonen and Cancellara are equally good at cobbles imo.
The fact that Cancellara wasn't there in the PR and RvV finale doesn't mean he's suddenly worse than Boonen. The bottle in his wheel that caused Cancellara to crash during RvV is in no way related to his skills, it was just bad luck.
I mean, for someone like Devolder, who lost out on a good finale in both RvV and PR, you could say it's lack of skills/experience, because he was cycling too far at the back when accidents happened in front of him.
This isn't the case for Cancellara though. If you look how he won Stade then you can see that he's above the rest just like Boonen is. Exactly how good they are in relation to each other, we just can't tell. There's no reason to say one is better than the other.

Cancellara is more of an all-rounder.
He can go over cobbles (winning P-R shows that)
He can Time Trial (winning World ITT shows that)
He can go over Hills (winning Strade Bianchi show that)
He can go up Mountains (u can see him pulling for the Schlecks in the TDF)
He can sprint a bit
Boonen is more specialized.
He can cobble (duh...)
He can sprint (duh...)
He can get over hills (RVV)
but he cant climb or TT anywhere near as well as Spartacus.
Over cobbles, on top form, equal teams, equal luck, i'd say Boonen.
TT, Cancellara
Hills, Cancellara
Sprint, Boonen
Mountain, Cancellara
3:2 Cancellara, he is the better cyclist
Boonen is the better cobbles
All those five aspects matter equally as much ? That's something new.
Your right.
Cobbles and sprint matter much less then the other 3 so Cancellara is actually much better
Cancellara is obviously the better overall cyclist. There is no competition in that argument.
Cancellara has the ability to win proper 1 week long races (Tours of Qatar and Belgium don't really count ). Also, if you were to ask any pro rider who they were more scared of in the peleton then I bet 9 out of 10 (probably more) would say Cancellara.
What Boonen did was amazing and he will rightly be remembered as one of the best classics riders of all time. It's just a shame he's wasted the last couple of years of his career. imagine what he would have won if he could keep his nose clean.
Boonen is the most succesfull cobbles rider (he owes a couple of victories to his good sprint). Cancellara is still stronger imo.
