Sagan is indeed in a good shape, but you also have to consider the weak fields he participates in. It's not that hard to win against some guys who are at least 3-4 points lower in hill and most other stats. Still, he has a good run.

World Championships – Preview
The races:
Due to financial and organisational problems, Copenhagen heavy-heartedly decided to give away the hosting of the world championships, and on short notice, Melbourne offered to re-host the races again after last year.
So the time trial is again a 45 km long parcours in Geelong. It's flat and unspectacular.
The road race is a criterium in Melbourne, with a short hill as a difficulty, but all in all pretty flat. Both sprinters or rouleurs could get a shot there.
The contenders
ITT
As it's already quite late in the season, and the form can differ a lot, it's hard to say who is the favorite.
No matter what, he must be considered as the top favorite for every time trial.
The second best time trialist in the world is currently, as I know from the German national coach, not in best shape.
Bradley Wiggins
The British hasn't shown too much this season: The time trial of the Dauphiné is his only season win. Still, he is one of the best time trialists, and usually targets the WC so he has to be considered.
Christian Vande Velde
Alberto Contador
Richie Porte
Road Race
Regarding the road race, the favorites are even harder to chose as it's not clear what kind of finish we'll have to expect. Still it's certain that the winner will have to be able to cross the hills without losing to much energy.
From all the top sprinters, he is the one with the best puncheur qualities. With a stage win at the Vuelta, he proved to be in reasonable shape.
A bit weaker on the hills, Boonen usually is faster than Davis. Though he had a very good season, his last good result dates back from mid august.
Peter Sagan
Should it come to a sprint out of a small group of top puncheurs, Peter Sagan might be the best bet. He showed an amazing form recently and is both fast and good on the hills. His biggest disadvance is his weak national team.
Mark Cavendish
Damiano Cunego
Heinrich Haussler

I'm sorry to destroy your hopes, but Dominik won't even be participating And that, although I myself control Germany - seeing Sagan at the moment, I kind of wished I could control him^^. It wouldn't be realistic at all because the course really doesn't suit him (Dominik of course, not Sagan) well.

WC : World Championships ITT
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the first decision for a rainbow jersey this year.
13:00: Jean-Christophe Peraud, the Frenchman, starts the race.
13:02: Bert Grabsch is on his way.
13:24: At the moment, Samuel Sanchez leads at the first checkpoint with 4 seconds to Matthieu Ladagnous.
13:45: Alberto Contador starts the race.
13:57: And now, Cancellara is on his way as well.
14:29: Jens Voigt sets a new best time on checkpoint one!
14:37: Vuelta winner Samuel Sanchez comes into the finish with a provisional best time, 37 seconds in front of Bert Grabsch:
1h05'11
14:49: Richie Porte has to burrow his title dreams and finishes 9 seconds behind Sanchez.
1h05'20
14:55: Fabian Cancellara is only 3 seconds in front of Jens Voigt on the first checkpoint!
15:10: Matthieu Ladagnous surprises with a new best time.
1h05'03
15:13: Contador is nowhere in the top 5 on the checkpoint. He won't have anything to do with the decision.
15:23: Cancellara crushes all times at checkpoint 2, being 44 seconds faster than Voigt.
15:29: Jens Voigt sets a great new best time. An amazing performance!
1h04'22
15:34: Not surprisingly, we have a new best time: Fabian Cancellara sets the time to beat.
1h03'50
15:47: Leipheimer finishes. No notable time.
15:59: Michael Rogers finishes provisional fifth.
1h05'13
16:12: Tony Martin crosses the line. He can't live up with the expectations and finishes provisional fourth.
1h05'02
16:14: Menchov sets a good time at the second checkpoint being third.
16:22: Christian Vande Velde finishes third, but still Jens Voigt is by far the second best rider.
1h04'56
16:28: Menchov finishes with a good time, but can't touch the leading duo. Third rank.
1h04'55
16:48: Wow, Liquigas can really look forward to that guy: Janez Brajkovic sets a clear second best time on the second checkpoint, only 25 seconds behind Cancellara. A podium is in reach for him.
16:52: Wiggins finishes but disappoints. No good time.
17:00: Brajkovic lost a bit time on Voigt on the last part, nevertheless he finishes at a great third place.
1h04'26

WC : World Championships
The second and more important world championship is on. It is possible to be both, either a sprint or a success by a good puncheur.
Km 15: The first riders try to break away. Peter Velits and Janez Brajkovic are among them.
Km 53: The advance of an eight men break grew to about 5 minutes.
Km 89: 7 minutes now...
Km 140: The advance is decreasing. 5 minutes, and we're about half way through the course.
Km 213: Greg Van Avermaet tries an early attack from the pack. Ivanov, Pozzato and some others follow.
Km 220: The peloton starts to split: 18 riders are 45 seconds in front. Davis, Cavendish, Boonen, Goss, Ciolek and Greipel are within there.
Km 231: They advance of the small group grew to more than one minute. They come close to the original break.
Km 245: The break and the big group are reunited. 27 riders are in front now, almost 3 minuntes in front of the pack. But more and more riders fall back.
Km 252: Six riders got loose from the front group! They are: Allan Davis (AUS), Mark Cavendish (GBR), Tom Boonen (BEL), Damiano Cunego (ITA), Serguei Ivanov (RUS) and Karsten Kroon (NED). They are currently 30 seconds in front.
Km 263: The leading six riders split! Davis, Boonen and Ivanov lead.
Km 266: Allan Davis leads solo over the last hill. This could be the decision!
Km 271: Davis enters the last 5 km with an advance of more than a minute! I think, we have a new world champion!
Km 276: Yes indeed! The Australian is the new world champion!
Km 276: Boonen easily takes the second place in front of Damiano Cunego.
Km 276: Gerald Ciolek is the best German rider on a great place 7. The best Liquigas rider is Simone Ponzi on 9.

My bets failed, Davis had the national 'boost'.
BTW, have Ponzi's stats improved a bit? He's been having some nice results lately.

Great late season results with Sagan and Ponzi, these races are always somewhat easier then races in April e.g.
Good luck in the last races of the season

Nokia new head sponsor of former Saxo Bank – New Asian team formed
The future of the former team Saxo Bank is secured: Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia announced to sponsor the team for at least the next 5 years. A spokesman said that they would try to use the new beginning in Continental Division as a start for their project of a nordic cycling team. Based on the Danish riders of Saxo Bank, they will focus on riders from the nordic countries of Danmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway. Still, for next season, every Saxo Bank rider willing to stay is welcome. Sungard stays secondary sponsor and agreed with the new orientation of the team.
On other team news: The south korrean technology company Samsung and the taiwanesian bike manufacturer GIANT announced a collaboration to form a new professional Asian team. The squad will be built around the leaders Fumiyuki Beppu and Yuriya Arashiro and starts in the Continental Division next year.
According to rumours, another big sponsor change might come up: After a disappointing season, HTC might pull back from being the main sponsor of Bob Stapleton's Highroad team. Stapleton said that he was still in negotiations with HTC, but just in case, he is also in „nonbinding talks“ with a „large company with a big history in cycling“, so that the team would in any case stay together. We may look forward to that in suspense.

@johannes-w Actually, he failed pretty badly he ended up 57th, but I didn't really followed him during the race.
Any comments on the team changes? Anyone who would miss HTC too much (although I really like the replacement I have in mind, so it wouldn't change much and also, the team stays together)?

October 1, 2011
Monthly Summary: September
Peter Sagan was overwhelming with four wins this month. Also, Matthias Brändle scored two win (the one at Duo Normand is a bug).
After his triumph at the Vuelta, Sanchez advanced to place two of this ranking. Liquigas has now two men in the Top 5, and due to Sagan's and Ponzi's performances in Canada, they lead the ranking comfortably.
Also, the relegation is pretty much decided: Ag2r will go down as well as Vacansoleil, if they don't surprisingly win in the Lombardia.
Skil really dominates here, and firstly, Tom Veelers overtook his team mate Kenny Van Hummel to lead the ranking.
Sammy Sanchez and Basso made a big leap forward here as well. Also, Liquigas leads here with a big advance now. Meanwhile, FDJ and Skil are almost certain to be promoted.
No big changes in the individual rankings, but Liquigas increased their amount of wins to 47.
Strangely, the magazine did not give any award this month.

Guess who's back
or
A legend returns!
Bob Stapleton didn't lie when he told us that his potential new sponsor had a big cycling history: After HTC withdrew, the American announced T-Mobile to be the new name-giving sponsor of his team!
After four years of absence, the German mobile telephony provider is back in the business. They quit their sponsorship in 2007 due to several doping reports after many successful years with numerous wins of Jan Ulrich, Erik Zabel and many other riders in the famous magenta jerseys. Now, the concern returns to replace HTC as the head sponsor of the – now – Team T-Mobile! The squad can therefore mostly stay together – except for the usual transfers. Also, the team announced two new signings: Gerald Ciolek returns to the team that he already rode for in 2007 and replaces Matthew Goss, who leaves towards GreenEdge. Also, Stefan Schumacher will return to his former team.
Another, much less spectacular, nevertheless interesting team announcement reached us today as well: It's the creation of another Spanish team based on only one region:
The TV chanel TV3 and the bank Caixa Catalunya will collaborate to form an all-Catalonian team. Taking Euskaltel as their role model, they want to support the Catalonian young cycling talents with the long distance goal of once promoting to WorldTour. For their first year, their squad will consist of both young, unknown riders and established ones like Josep Jufre (Astana) and Alberto Losada (Katusha).
Also, RadioShack decided not to extend their sponsorship for the American team. But the team can stay together: The children's emergency fund of the United Nations UNICEF overtook the sponsorship together with the software manufacturer Oracle.

Schumacher never rode for T-Mobile, just Gerolsteiner.
EDIT: Wait, it was Telekom before, nevermind.
