@Batista15
I agree, I think it is great if the national champ can win a race/stage in his home country. Maybe George had to attack a bit more, it was the only time we saw him in front.
@tsmoha
Thank you Well, Lance tried an attack, but Contador closed the gap and fall back then. I would call that a "kamikaze mission"... At least, Lance was able to finish before Contador, that is a great motivation for the Tour de France. He is not unbeatable
Giro d'Italia
Stage 15: Mestre - Zoncolan, 218,3 km
There are many hard mountain stage at the Giro d'Italia 2010, but I think I am not wrong if I would say that the fifteenth stage is the hardest one. Before the rider reach the final climb, the Monte Zoncolan (10,1 km; 11,9%), which was already part of the Giro 2003 and 2007 (both Zoncolan-stages won Gilberto Simoni), they have already three hard climbs in the legs, the Sella Chianzutan (10,65 km; 5,4%), the Passo Duron (4,45 km; 9,5%) and the Sella Valcalda (4,95 km; 7,2%). Only a really good climber can win here (in real life, it was Basso). If we still hold the leader jersey after this stage, then I am convinced that we have a real chance to win the Giro d'Italia.
Team goals:
- No time loss / Gain time if possible ( Defend the leader jersey (Leipheimer)
- No time loss / Help Levi in critical situations (Paulinho, Machado)
Favourites: Ivan Basso, Vincenzo Nibali, Simon Spilak, Domenico Pozzovivo, Levi Leipheimer.
My tip: Just like irl, Ivan Basso will win here.

Hope Levi can defend his jersey! Good luck, that stage, especially the final climb is soooo hard

Thank you both
Just started the stage, but I played a bit with the image filtering. Until now, I always played with high dynamic contrast. Does it not look a bit to bright? I have tried a few filters, and I think that the second looks much better.
Whats your opinion?
(1) No filter
(2) light and saturated
(3) High dynamic contrast

Thank you all for the feedback So I present now the first stage report with the image filter "Light and saturated"! (I think it is way better, it is not so bright and the game even run more fluently).
Depart in Mestre.
The early break in Oderzo, the rider: Mauricio Ardila (Rabobank), Geraint Thomas (Sky), Oliver Zaugg (Liquigas), Paul Voss (Milram), Daniel Lloyd (Cervélo), who was the most dangerous rider with 26 minutes behind, Craig Lewis (Colombia), Daniel Sesma (Euskaltel), Mario Aerts (Omega Pharma) and Dominik Klemme (SaxoBank).
Spoiler
Mauricio Ardila (Rabobank) 8
Geraint Thomas (Sky) 6
Oliver Zaugg (Liquigas) 4
Paul Voss (Milram) 3
Daniel Lloyd (Cervélo) 2
The BOTD again (I forgot to shot them in Pordenone, so I just took another one from them).
Spoiler
Geraint Thomas (Sky) 8
Oliver Zaugg (Liquigas) 6
Daniel Lloyd (Cervélo) 4
Craig Lewis (Colombia) 3
Daniel Sesma (Euskaltel) 2
The early group reached the first mountain, the Sella Chianzutan. Though the pace is not very high, Paul Voss dropped. The peloton is already 17 minutes behind, as long as Dan Lloyd was not a thread for the leader jersey, we decided to do nothing.
Group Lloyd; +50" Voss; +17'12" Peloton.
Spoiler
Daniel Lloyd (Cervélo) 5
Oliver Zaugg (Liquigas) 3
Mauricio Ardila (Rabobank) 1
Tolmezzo.
Group Lloyd; +1'11" Voss; +18'24" Peloton.
Spoiler
Mario Aerts (Omega Pharma) 8
Craig Lewis (Colombia) 6
Daniel Sesma (Euskaltel) 4
Mauricio Ardila (Rabobank) 3
Oliver Zaugg (Liquigas) 2
The Passo Duron. Ardila set a high pace, and only Zaugg was able to stay with him.
Ardila, Zaugg; +41" Aerts; +1'12" Lloyd, Thomas; +1'32" Lewis, Sesma; +3'42" Klemme; +6'22" Voss; +19'42" Peloton.
Spoiler
Mauricio Ardila (Rabobank) 10
Oliver Zaugg (Liquigas) 6
Mario Aerts (Omega Pharma) 4
Daniel Lloyd (Cervélo) 2
Geraint Thomas (Sky) 1
Sella Valcalda. Thanks to the pacemakers from Caisse d'Epargne, the peloton got more and more selected, 25 rider (including Levi, Tiago and Sergio) left.
Ardila, Zaugg; +1'14" Aerts; +2'25" Lloyd, Thomas; +2'37" Lewis; +4'41" Sesma; +7'08" Klemme; +9'58" Voss; +16'51" Gruppo Maglia Rosa.
Spoiler
Mauricio Ardila (Rabobank) 5
Oliver Zaugg (Liquigas) 3
Mario Aerts (Omega Pharma) 1
While Ardila and Zaugg are already at the top, we see a first attack in the favourites group, Stefano Garzelli accelerated!
Zaugg, Ardila; +1'08" Aerts; +2'19" Thomas, Lloyd; +3'01" Lewis; +5'34" Sesma; +7'59" Klemme; +10'59" Voss; +16'21" Garzelli; +16'37" Gruppo Maglia Rosa.
Gruppo Maglia rosa reachs the final destination, the Monte Zoncolan! Dario Cataldo (QuickStep) seems strong today, he already attacked.
The rider in the group behind: Tiago Machado, Levi Leipheimer and Sérgio Paulinho (RadioShack), Vincenzo Nibali and Ivan Basso (Liquigas), Luis Leon Sánchez and Marzio Bruseghin (Caisse d'Epargne, surprisingly no Moreau!), Kevin Seeldraeyers (QuickStep), Domenico Pozzovivo (Colnago), Michele Scarponi and José Serpa (Androni), Simon Spilak (Lampre, the next surprise: No Cunego!), Marco Pinotti (Colombia), Stefano Garzelli (Acqua&Sapone), Daniel Martin (Garmin), Bauke Mollema (Rabobank), Bradley Wiggins (Sky) and two rider we did not expected, Alexsandr Dyachenko (Astana) and Przemyslaw Niemiec (Miche).
Ardila, Zaugg;
+ 1'24" Aerts;
+ 2'52" Lloyd, Thomas;
+ 4'28" Lewis;
+ 8'11" Sesma;
+ 10'32" Klemme;
+ 12'41" Cataldo;
+ 13'00" Gruppo Maglia Rosa;
+ 13'53" Voss;
+ 14'14" Gruppo Cunego.
One of the infamous +20% sections... While Ardila and Zaugg are fighting against the climb...
... our leader jersey struggles! Levi in trouble...
Ardila, Zaugg;
+1'59" Aerts;
+3'29" Lloyd;
+4'37" Thomas;
+7'19" Lewis;
+8'13" Nibali, Basso, Scarponi, Garzelli, Spilak, Mollema, Pinotti, Paulinho, Pozzovivo;
+9'29" Seeldraeyers, Cataldo, Bruseghin, Martin;
+10'14" Dyachenko, Machado, Sesma, Serpa, Wiggins, Niemiec.
But he was able to stay in the group, it seems that all were run out of energy... Well, not all: With 2,3km to the finish, Michele Scarponi attacked, and only Vincenzo Nibali and Ivan Basso seem able to follow!
Ardila, Zaugg;
+2'16" Aerts;
+3'58" Lloyd;
+4'23" Scarponi;
+4'44" Nibali, Basso;
+5'14" Gruppo Maglia Rosa.
Mauricio Ardila... Certainly the man of the day, already in the early group, he did most of the work, and now, even Oliver Zaugg can not follow the colombian. Behind them, Basso, Nibali and Scarponi build up their gap, they are already 40 seconds ahead Levi.
Ardila;
+24" Zaugg;
+2'22" Aerts;
+3'17" Scarponi, Nibali, Basso;
+4'08" Garzelli,Spilak, Paulinho, Leipheimer, Pinotti, Mollema, Sánchez, Lloyd, Pozzovivo;
+4'56" Cataldo;
+5'30" Seeldraeyers;
+6'27" Martin, Bruseghin;
+7'01" Thomas;
+7'21" Machado, Dyachenko.
Mauricio was too tired to celebrate, but at least, he made his biggest victory in his career today... Great performance! Zaugg finished 1 minute later.
Ivan Basso had most energy left and wins the sprint against Scarponi. Nibali even lost contact in the sprint, but still finished fifth.
Bauke Mollema, Sérgio Paulinho, Stefano Garzelli, Levi Leipheimer and Marco Pinotti are the next, 2'48" behind Ardila and 56 seconds behind Basso.
It was a hard race for our young portuguese climber, but Tiago Machado did not gave up and finished as 20th, 5'52" behind Ardila.
The loser of the day: Damiano Cunego finished 27th, +12'18", and Christophe Moreau 28th, 12'38".

I didn't even think this was your story at first , when I saw the image filtering, but its definately better like this than when it was previously.

Yours and Squire's are the best stories currently. Both go above and beyond. I mean no offense to others because you are all still much better than me and not far behind Janne and Squire, but as I story-writer I have to admit defeat to those two. Hopefully LL Sanchez can take the maglia rosa from you.

ha, I think exactly the same ^^ that's why both are my favourite stories (also because both teams have lance armstrong ) but take that LL Sanchez thinking away!!
Great job keeping the maglia. convinced now you have a real chance to win the giro??

@Roturn, Pellizotti2, Batista15 and Tsmoha
Thank you all But it is still a long way to go...
@valverde321
Thank you very much But I have to disagree, I do not think that my story is as good as you said... And I really like your story
You are Caisse d'Epargne-Fan, aren't you? Well, no problem, we will see which rider will take it finally.
@lluuiiggii
Well, not really... Maybe we perform well at the last stage, but there are still a few mountain stages and we can not lost always one minute to the superior climber like Basso or Nibali...
24. May
The ASO announced the 20 teams which have the honour to compete at the most important cycling event of the world, the Tour de France:
Pro Tour
AG2R La Mondiale
Astana
Caisse d'Epargne
Euskaltel-Euskadi
Footon - Servetto
Française des Jeux
Garmin - Transitions
HTC - Colombia
Katusha
Lampre - Farnese Vini
Liquigas - Doimo
Milram
Omega Pharma - Lotto
Quick Step
Rabobank
RadioShack
Sky Professional Cycling Team
Saxo Bank
Wildcards
Bbox Bouygues Telecom
Cofidis
The ASO only award two wildcards, and (what a surprise), they gone to the french teams. So: Without BMC (with rider like two times runner-up and world champ Cadel Evans, Alessandro Ballan, George Hincapie) and the Cervélo Test Team (Points jersey 2009 Thor Hushovd and Tour winner 2008 Carlos Sastre), we will miss two of the best cycling teams worldwide.
Giro d'Italia
A well-deserved rest day.

Giro d'Italia
Stage 16: San Vigilio di Marebbe - Plan de Corones, 13km ITT
Even it is only a 13km long time trial, it will be a hard stage. From the start to the finish at the top of the Plan de Corones, the rider will go up almost 1100 meters of height. A good chance for Basso, Nibali and Sánchez to gain time on Levi and Sérgio.
Team goals:
- Top 10 / Damage limitation (Leipheimer, Paulinho)
Favourites: Ivan Basso, Vincenzp Nibali, Michele Scarponi, Levi Leipheimer, Stefano Garzelli
My tip: Stefano Garzelli wins irl here, he is also a good bet for the victory today.

What a douchebag I was on forgetting to check how The Shack was doing in Italy.
You're doing a great job, but you must be careful with LLS who is the biggest danger right now.

@FreitasPCm
No problem :) Thank you... LLS is dangerous, but it seems that he is a bit weaker on the mountains than Levi or Sérgio. Thats our chance.
The first good time was set by SaxoBank captain Jakob Fuglsang - 39'25"
Sylwester Szmyd beats him with a 38'35"
A surprisingly strong performance by Philip Deignan - 38'30"
After a poor performance at the last stage, Damiano Cunego seems to be alright again - 37'50"
Bradley Wiggins also lost much time at the last stage, so I did not expect much of him. But he performs quite well - 38'04"
Tiago Machado in his beautiful jersey - 38'30"
My tip for todays stage win failed. Stefano Garzelli - 37'54"
Dario Cataldo was probably the biggest surprise today - 37'40"
Domenico Pozzovivo showed his great climbing abilities - 37'29"
Michele Scarponi was the only non-Liquigas rider who was able to gain time on Levi at the Zoncolan-Stage, so he was one of the favourites for today. Rightly. He sets the new besttime - 37'19"
Bauke Mollema - 38'18"
Vincenzo Nibali on fire! He beats the currently best time from Scarponi with 1'27" (35'52"). Marco Pinotti - 37'35"
Even his team mate Ivan Basso, who is probably the strongest climber in the competition, was helplessly against the shark. Ivan Basso - 37'10"
Simon Spilak - 37'27"
Luis León Sánchez at the start. It was not his day, only a 37'50" for the spaniard.
Sérgio Paulinho with a quite good time - 37'19", the same time like Scarponi, only Nibali and Basso were faster.
La Maglia Rosa, Levi Leipheimer. He finished with the same time as Paulinho - 37'19"
Result:
1 Vincenzo Nibali Liquigas - Doimo 35'52 2 Ivan Basso Liquigas - Doimo + 1'18 3 Michele Scarponi Androni Giocattoli - Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni + 1'27 4 Sérgio Paulinho Team RadioShack s.t. 5 Levi Leipheimer Team RadioShack s.t. 6 Simon Spilak Lampre - Farnese Vini + 1'35 7 Domenico Pozzovivo Colnago - CSF Inox + 1'37 8 Marco Pinotti Team HTC - Columbia + 1'43 9 Dario Cataldo Quick·Step + 1'48 10 Damiano Cunego Lampre - Farnese Vini + 1'58

Sánchez lost time today, but of course he is still in the race. But we have a "new" opponent. Hopefully, Nibali may not show again such a strong performance, otherwise he will conquer the leader jersey soon.
