Christina Watches - Thats All

15/9-22/9 2014 Tour of Britain (cat 2.1)

18/9 Stage 4: Stoke - Llanberis 190.7 km

Christina: The caravan has traveled another 50 km south from Kendal to Stoke. The origin of Stoke-on-Trent is unknown, but it is said that the original Stoke Minster was built in 670. Today church is from 1830.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/stoke-minster_zpsfh2dp4h0.jpg

Pre-race strategy: We will do everything to protect Schumacher’s GC, but Martin Pedersen will be free to try to get in the right break, it would take the pressure of the team, and Pedersen could go for KoM points.
The weather forecast predict rain again, could be a tricky race.

Profile:

With no one in front, Pacheco fights for the first sprint, to gain the bonus seconds.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/1_zps1amkpikh.jpg

After the sprint, it seems that the race is neutralized for a period, everyone is together and the peloton moves very slowly forward.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/2_zps4ulaockg.jpg

Then the final breakaway is formed, Martin Pedersen with Adam Yates (Madison) and Russell Hampton (Raleigh), the breakaway get a maximum of 8 minutes.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/3_zps0uselm1r.jpg

Pedersen wins the first KoM sprint, on the second he comes last. The breakaway still has a small distance to the peloton, with just 9 km of downhill left.
The First KoM Sprint:

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/4_zpsclcb9apz.jpg

The pace is very high on the descent; Pacheco takes the wheel of Schumacher. Russell Hampton from the breakaway, it still in front with 1 km left, Pacheco moves past him with only 200-300 meter left, to claim the victory. Russell Hampton takes 2nd place.

Christina: Another super sprint from Pacheco, overall a fantastic race for Christina Watches, let’s hope we can keep it up.

Way to go Pacheco Grin. Nice to also see team-mates looking out for each despite their own bigger interests Smile

15/9-22/9 2014 Tour of Britain (cat 2.1)

19/9 Stage 5: Machynlleth - Caerphilly 178 km

Christina: The caravan has traveled about 100 km south from Llanberis to Machynlleth. Signs of Copper mining in the area of Machynlleth have been dated back about 2750 years. The first written references to Machynlleth is from 1291, giving the town rights to hold a market every Wednesday. The market is still held today, more than 700 years later.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/Machynlleth_zpsyeeokd8s.jpg

Pre-race strategy: Again priority is on Schumacher, but Martin Pedersen is still free.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/0_zpsz4cdgwcu.jpg

The morning break are 5 riders, Marcel Fischer (Thüringer), Martin Pedersen, Marlón Pérez (Colombia), Víctor De la Parte (Liberty) Andreas Schillinger (NetApp)

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/1_zps3ggxynnl.jpg

At the descend after the top of the cat.1, 155 km left, two rider are now between the break and the front, Ryan Anderson (Optum) 4’50 after, Pierrick Fédrigo (FDJ.fr) 6’36 after, the peloton is 7’23 after. We set some riders up front, not to the lets the gap get larger.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/2_zpslqjapohs.jpg

Anderson and later Fédrigo get up to the breakaway group, Petersen riding in the KoM jersey, fights for every KoM point, he takes 18 points today.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/3_zpsugb3sqni.jpg

At the last cat.3 climb, a dangerous group attacks Daryl Impey (Vodafone), Janier Acevedo (Jamis), Pieter Serry (Topsport Vlaanderen) they get 41 sec. on group Schumacher.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/4_zpsyxrj5fod.jpg

But Pacheco gives everything he has got forcing group Schumacher forward, and group Acevedo is caught just in time. The stage is won by the 7 breakaway riders, Anderson crosses the line first in front of Marcel Fischer. Martin Pedersen is 3rd losing 1’40. Schumacher comes in 8th. in the same time is Pedersen.

Anderson:

Tour of China II 19/9-24/9

19/9 Wuhan Jiangxia Prologue ITT 6.3 km

Rasmussen: While the A team is battling it of in Brittan, I am here in China, for the tour of China II, our squad is very weak and out of form, so we have no expectations, just a fitness ride. The reports from this race will be limited.

20/9 Stage 6: Sidmouth – Haytor 137.6 km

Christina: The caravan has traveled another about 180 km south from Caerphilly to Sidmouth. Originally a small fishing village, today a tourist resort, Sidmouth dates back to Iron Age, and mentioned in the Domesday survey (11th century).

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/1650_zpsgnqj20ra.jpg

Pre-race strategy: Priority is on Schumacher, if there is no direct threat to the KoM, Martin Pedersen will stay in the peloton, after hard days in breakaways.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/0_zpsapnmqdii.jpg

It is raining hard. A very strong morning break of 6 riders gets away. Wesley Sulzberger (Orica), Karsten Kroon (Saxo), Pierpaolo De Negri (Node 4), Cesare Benedetti (NetApp), Guillaume Levarlet (Cofidis) and Robert Partridge (UK Youth), but even though they are strong riders, they are all more than 8 min. back in the GC.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/1_zpsvv1x38ws.jpg

Though the break is no direct threat, we set riders in front to keep the pace at a reasonable level. The rain has stopped.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/2_zpsqralsmyt.jpg

At the last cat.2 about 25 km to go, a lot of attacks start in the peloton, important as well as unimportant rider try to create gaps.
A group with Acevedo, Schumacher, Meyer and others try to create a gap:

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/3_zpsrvbrftk1.jpg

With 5 km to go, the 3 riders of the GC podium is still together, the breakaway is about 2 minutes ahead of the favorites. It is raining again.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/4_zpsujy0kwt4.jpg

The breakaway wins the stage; Wesley Sulzberger crosses the line first just in front of Karsten Kroon. Janier Acevedo comes in first after the breakaway, with Stefan Schumacher on wheel; nothing is changed in the top of GC.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/5_zpshwi024cx.jpg

Christina: Everything as planned, nice.

Tour of China II 19/9-24/9

20/9 Stage 2: Huainan Circuit: 121.5 km

Rasmussen: a pancake flat stage today, we did some attempts to attack, but was never strong enough to get away, the stage was won in a mass sprint by Alex Rasmussen (Garmin) over Tony Gallopin (RadioShack).

21/9 Stage 7: Epsom – Guildford: 150.3 km

Christina: The caravan has traveled some 300 km east to Epsom some 30 km south of London. The town dates back to Anglo-Saxon England. Today it has a population of a little more than 30.000.

1848’s engraving of Epsom Clock Tower:
i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/EpsomClockTowerEngraving1848_zpsjjtcu2yc.jpg

Pre-race strategy: Priory is on Schumacher, and a possible mass sprint from Pacheco. If there is no direct threat to the KoM, Martin Pedersen will stay in the peloton.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/0_zpsxjfxa9ne.jpg

A large break of 8 riders, get away right from the start. They are no threat to the GC.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/1_zpsoid1uonu.jpg

We set riders up front to control the gap. The beak is in front with 3-4 minutes all day.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/2_zpsmfp58owq.jpg

Getting within 15 km from the line, a nasty crash happens on a bridge and several riders cannot finish the race. We have no riders involved.

i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/jonta3/3_zpsodrs9s7r.jpg

The peloton does not catch the breakaway, they win the stage with 35 sec to the peloton. The race is won by David Hesselbarth (Thüringer) over Leonardo Duque (Colombia)

Getting closer and closer to the big prize...

Tamijo
sutty68: Just in front of the crash, It was Philip Nielsen laying low after a hard day’s work up front, very lucky to avoid scratches and perhaps even injuries.

AbhishekLFC: Just one stage left.
