Indeed.. Sadly im completely screwed, the routes that were randomly selected have basically no flat stages all year, so it's gonna be pretty lean for me this season i think
We'll band together and hold up the end for the sprinters
Nice looking startlist. Most of the stars are in Tirreno opening this race up a lot. Then the lack of a serious TT turns it even more in favor of the agressive. It is a route that should create action which is good.
My money would be on Gilbert over Purito though. Voeckler vs. Chavanel for best french man. Sagan to be the outside GC bet i expect to take a Top5 if not more
You're not really a sprinters team... Well, less than SGL is
And I can see the MO skill being a factor in stage 5(Maybe ratio 0,25/0,75, but still...), and that can give Gilbert problems
PCM11 or PCM12? If PCM11 then Gilbert cant do well on that stage ... |

Well here we are, the beginning of the race to the sun. At 4km this race won't be decided today, but it will give us our initial maillot jaune, and might be a first indicator of whose in form of the GC favourites.
Sean Kelly: For me theres only one winner today, Tony Martin is World Champion for a reason, expect to see him take the jersey comfortably today
David Harmon: Sylvain Chavanel is my pick for the day, he'll be hoping to impress on home soil in the Paris Nice GC, and what better way to start that than here in the opening TT.
BB32(SGL-Magix Manager): In truth I agree with Sean, but to be a bit different i'll go with Haiers Edvald Boassen-Hagen, he's a strong prologue rider, and his team are riding for him in both the GC and sprints here in France.
The race was a constant battle, which saw several of the GC contenders out perform expectations. Purito is clearly in solid form at the moment, his time was good enough for 12th place.
In the end no one could take on Der Panzerwagon, and considering the length of the stage, only 2 riders were remotely close. 1" behind was Sylvain Chavanel, whilst 2" back came Edvald Boassen-Hagen.
Many had high hopes for Taylor Phinney of the PGR team, however the climb on course proved enough to take him out of the mix, only able to take 7th on the day.
The stage was short enough that even the weaker TTists didn't lose masses against there rivals, the worst off were SGL-Magix's Andreas Kloden, and Motorex' Michael Albasini. The Swissman lost 19" to Tony Martin, but more importantly 10" to Hot Favourite Phillipe Gilbert. Daniel Martin has so far slipped beneath the radar somewhat, however he can reasonably pleased with his TT result 20" back. Again, a small enough gap that a good performance in the hills could bring him back into contention.
Those are the big winners and losers from todays stage, our Team photographer was able to grab us a collection of other pictures on the stage as well, of various favourites and riders from the teams representing here in the Paris-Nice

Stage 4: Amelia – Chieti
Time for the first small test of the GC-riders. One thing is certain though: Someone else will be wearing the leaders jersey tomorrow!
It doesn't look like another day for a breakaway as the five riders out there after 50 km just barely hold on to a minutes gap. Iglinsky, Stetina, Hoogerland, De la Fuente and Brambilla might as well just give it up it seems...
The five is joined by Capecchi, Mandri, Chalapud and Palumbo from the back and get a fresh breath of air.
When Brambilla wins the KOM they hold just over five minutes to the peloton.
Going into the last 100 km Tulip and Bulgari have started to reduce the gap now down to eight minutes after having been as much as 10 just 15 km ago.
When the break starts climbing Passo Lanciano the gap is down to just over five minutes.
Pozzovivo, Van den Broeck and Leipheimer open the attacking from the peloton.
The rest of the favourites seem content to let their domestiques show themselves for the time being.
With 5 km to the top Brambilla, Stetina, Hoogerland, De la Fuente and Capecchi has 2'30'' to Pozzovivo, Van den Broeck and Leipheimer, who has a minute to a 20-rider group with most of the main favourites.
Contador and Froome work nicely together and with 1 km to the top they have reduced the group to 15 riders and caught all escapees except four.
Hoogerland takes the mountain top, but Brambilla takes the lead in the KOM-classification.
Status with 30 km to go:
The four from the original break holds 1'27'' on 19 riders including most of the favourites.
Nibali is 1'24'' behind this group.
With 28 km to go Contador goes on the attack.
Scarponi joins him and with 17 km to go the duo has half a minute to the main group.
They fight the best they know and going under the 10 km mark Alberto has 18 seconds to Michele and 40 seconds to the main favourites group.
Froome keeps slowly reeling them in and they keep attacking.
That is until the 5 km mark where Froome attacks right after reeling in Contador and reducing the group to 8 riders. Scarponi is still out in front with a small gap.
2 km to the finish line and 800 m to the top of the last hill. 9 riders united in front.
Voeckler keeps attacking but can't get a gap.
Going into the last km it looks like Froome vs Contador.
On a finish like this the Spaniard is the fastest of the two and Froome quickly loses the small advantage he had to the others.
Joshua England did not finish the stage.
