Another report? Thought you won't post report for a few days? Correct, but I was home from some birthdays eralier than expected, so played a few stages before the holiday kicks off monday morning....

So the 2nd stage of the Vuelta. from La Nucia to Playas de Orihuela.
img851.imageshack.us/img851/8886/mapa2j.jpg

It's a 174km long stage, with some hills in the first part of the stage, including the only categorized climb the Alto de Relleu. The last 120km are almost completely flat. so this for sure is a stage for the sprinters. We will try to set up a train with Lieuwe Westra, Peter Sagan and Theo Bos.
img225.imageshack.us/img225/4165/2perfil.jpg

But I haven't mentioned our first goal in this stage. That is the poits to be earned on the Alto de Relleu. Wout Poels will be our man for the KOTM-ranking (at least this stage), so the team works hard to keep the peloton together in the first 28km. And we succeed! Poels is the first crossing the line of the KOTM-sprint and he knows he can go to the podium after the stage! LS Haedo (Saxo Bank) gets 2nd, Maarten Wynants (Rabobank) 3rd.
img441.imageshack.us/img441/6731/1kotm1.jpg

In the descend to Alicante, a group of 13 riders ride away and the peloton doesn't care that they create an advantage of about 6 minutes. The riders in the group: Azan Bazayev (Astana), Chad Beyer (BMC), Daniele Colli (Geox), Lucas Sebastián Haedo (Saxo Bank), Mikhail Ignatiev (Katusha), Andreas Klier (Garmin), Pablo Lechuga (Andalucia), Romain Lemarchand (AG2R), Martin Pedersen (Leopard), Alan Pérez (Euskaltel), Michael Schär (BMC), Bjorn Selander (Radio Shack) and Andreass Stauff (Quick Step). Haedo wins the sprint in Santa Pola, edging out Igantiev and Pedersen. With 100km to go, their lead is 6'05.
img685.imageshack.us/img685/5144/2is1.jpg

28km further in the stage in Dolores, Bazayev wins the 2nd sprint, in front of Schär and Ignatiev. 44km to go, and the lead has decreased to 4 minutes.
img834.imageshack.us/img834/860/3is3.jpg

Riding along the seaside, the gap between the leading group and the chasing peloton has become smaller and smaler. HTC and Sky do most of the work. With 13km to go, 2 riders have attacked out of the eading group and they create a little gap. Colli and Bazayev have a gap of '21 to Haedo, Stauff and Klier, and the peloton follows at '56.
img62.imageshack.us/img62/4320/413km.jpg

But the effort in the heat (35 degrees) has been too much today and with 10km to go, it's a regrouping.
img90.imageshack.us/img90/3825/510km.jpg

With 5km to go, the pace in the peloton suddenly drops and causes 2 actions: the Monster-train with Westra, Sagan & Bos taking the lead and BMC's Marcus Burghardt with a brave jump. The German rider can create a 10-second gap, but with about 3km to go, the peloton isn't far.
img441.imageshack.us/img441/3852/63km.jpg

HTC's John Degenkolb starts the sprint with 2km to go, being the leadout for Cavendish. Also Sky, with Christopher Sutton leading out Edvald Boasson Hagen, are up front. And Monster? We fall back to place 5-10...
img12.imageshack.us/img12/4413/72km.jpg

Already in the ultimo kilometro (600m to go) and Degenkolb is still in the lead. On his left side (right side of the picture) comes Cavendish. José Joaquín Rojas and Oscar Freire come on the other side of the road.
img854.imageshack.us/img854/883/8600m.jpg

300 metres to go, and Freire has started his jump. He is in the lead now, closely followed by Cav, EBH and JJR. But isn't this jump set in too early?? Sagan is in a good 5th place, while Bos is blocked by Degenkolb.
img411.imageshack.us/img411/544/9300m.jpg

And the jump from Freire was started too early. Mark cavendish takes over and gets his 4th win of the season (British RR-championships and 2 stages in the Bayern Rundfahrt). Yes, you read this well, only his 4th end and it's already in the last half of August. He must have spend too much time with Peta Todd (well, I can't blame him) this year... Boasson Hagen takes the 2nd place, Freire the 3rd and Sagan & Bos finish in 8th and 9th place.

Word from the DS: To get 2 riders in the top 10 with these strong sprinters being present here, is a good job. But 8 & 9 are not the places we hoped for. Hopefully we can get some top 5's (and maybe something more surprising) later this Vuelta in a mass sprint!

The same day as the 2nd stage of the Vuelta, an other part of the peloton was present in Hanburg for the Vattenfall Cyclassics, German's only World Tour race. The 216km long race mostly ends in a mass sprint, what happened last year. Garmin's Tyler Farrar took the win in a convincing sprint in 2010.
img528.imageshack.us/img528/6530/farrar2010.jpg

The riders have to climb the Waseberg (700m, at 11%) 3 times in the last part of the race, the last time only 25km before the finish. Nevertheless, the favourites to win this race are the sprinters.

Our team:
img716.imageshack.us/img716/4546/ploeg.jpg
As you can see, we take part with 3 stagaires and some guys who aren't in their best shape. So our goal is to get in the top 10, what will be pretty difficult.

Favourites:
*** Tyler Farrar (Garmin), Tom Boonen (Quick Step), Matthew Goss (HTC)
** Thor Hushovd (Garmin), Alessandre Petacchi (Lampre), Matti Breschel (Rabobank)
* Romain Feillu (Vacansoleil), Francisco Ventoso (Movistar), Robbie McEwen (Radio Shack).

As predicted, a group of 10 get away and form the BOTD. With 100km to go, their lead is 5'00. In it are: A. Mironov (Katusha), JJ. Haedo (Saxo), M. Selvaggi (Vacansoleil), E. Capecchi (Liquigas), C. Barton (BMC), R. Hesjedal (Garmin), D. Kostyuk (Lampre), B. Takacs (NSP), J. Vermote (Quick Step) and M. Christensen (Saxo).
img16.imageshack.us/img16/9840/1100km.jpg

With 51km to go, when the lead is still 2'38, we see the first attack out of the peloton. Rabo's Sebastian Langeveld and Sky's Matthew Hayman go in the counterattack.
img20.imageshack.us/img20/7821/251km.jpg

The leading group climbs the Waseberg for the first time. The lead is 2'39 to Langeveld and Hayman and 3'24 to the peloton with 47km to go.
img263.imageshack.us/img263/9981/347km.jpg

The 2nd climb of the Waseberg brings a shift in the leading group. Only 3 riders can stay up front: Eros Capecchi, Ryder Hesjedal and Alexander Mironov. 32km to go and the peloton is 2'22 back.
img444.imageshack.us/img444/53/432km.jpg

Meanwhile, Langeveld and Hayman have been caught again. But Hayman tries it again with 29km to go. This time, Filippo Pozzato (Katusha), Thor Hushovd (Garmin) and Jens Voigt (Leopard) join him. The 3 leaders have an advantage of 2'13.
img835.imageshack.us/img835/9411/529km.jpg

Capecchi, Mironov and Hesjedal have started the 3rd and last climb of the Waseberg. 25km to go and the peloton is only 1'27 behind.
img830.imageshack.us/img830/8859/625km.jpg

Because of the decreasing gap, Canadian champion Hesjedal attacks and the 2 others can't follow him. 17km to go, and he has a lead of 1'17 to the peloton.
img684.imageshack.us/img684/327/717km.jpg

He could not hold the advantage with 2 other riders, and he can't hold it alone. Already in the last 10km and the peloton is only '30 back. But what do we see there? It's Thor Hushovd again, trying to close the gap to his teammate.
img3.imageshack.us/img3/4103/810km.jpg

The World champion quickly closes the gap to Hesjedal, and leave shim behind. 5km to go and Hushovd leads Hesjedal by '12 and the peloton by '48. The chase in the peloton isn't organized. Only Movistar are up front with more than 3 riders, and they hesitate. And what about Monster Energy - Ford? Ligthart and Maaskant are in the first peloton, while Bobrodge & Kittel try to stay in it.
img444.imageshack.us/img444/8121/95km.jpg

1500 metres to go and Hesjedal gets swallowed by the peloton. But Hushovd remains up front, with a lead of '38!
img268.imageshack.us/img268/3842/102km.jpg

The last kilometre and the sprinters have started their sprint. Feilu and Ventoso are in the lead of the chasing peloton, but they won't catch Hushovd.
img21.imageshack.us/img21/752/11600m.jpg

What a great win by Thor! It's his 3rd classic win of the year (Ronde van Vlaanderen, Paris-Roubaix, next to stage wins in Paris-Nice, Driedaagse De Panne (and the GC), and the Norwegian RR-championships) and he looks to be in a great shape for prolonging his world title next month in Copenhagen. Francisco Ventoso (Movistar) sprints to the 2nd place, with Romain Feillu (Vacansoleil) in 3rd. Pim Ligthart finishes in 12th place.

Agree with you, especially when you look at the form of the riders, all under 90 in a strong field.

Stage 3, from Petrer to Totana is 164 km long and classified as flat. But the route is pretty hilly, although that there is only one categorized KOTM in it. But the summit of the Alto de la Santa (alt. 640m) is only 12.4km away from the finish in Totana. The route should suit a sprinter with some punching skills, such as Boasson Hagen and Sagan.
img214.imageshack.us/img214/8232/3perfil.jpg

We see a group of 9 that form the BOTD: Chad Beyer (BMC), Maxim Iglinskiy (Astana), Andreas Klier (Garmin), Romain Lemarchand (AG2R), Paolo Longo Borghini (Liquigas), David Millar (Garmin), Martin Pedersen (Leopard), José Luis Roldán (Andalucia) and Bjorn Selander (Radio Shack). Iglinskiy wins the first Intermediate sprint, with Selander in 2nd and Beyer in 3rd. With 92km to go, the they've got a lead of 5'00 to the peloton.
img823.imageshack.us/img823/8547/1is1.jpg

The ga to the peloton gets bigger and reaches it's maximum of 6'30. Then the domestiques of Cavendish (TC) and Boasson Hagen (Sky) decide it's enough (to be honest, their DS's!) and they start the chase. Still 50km to go and the gap is 4'30.

Then the 9 leaders become 8. Andreas Klier crashes in the descend of the Alto del Berro and has all the luck that the car of the tour direction can avoid him. His bike isn't that lucky and will break in many pieces after the car has drove over it..... Klier has to wait for the car of his DS and falls back in the peloton.
img13.imageshack.us/img13/3710/3valklier.jpg

The leading group is in Totana for the first time. Beyer wins the Intermediate sprint, in front of Selander and Roldán. They have a loop of 40km to go, including the Alto de la Santa. The peloton is 4'00 behind them.
img59.imageshack.us/img59/4946/4is2.jpg

The pace of the peloton, done by HTC and Sky is very high and in the next 20km they close the gap with 3 minutes! Already climbing the Alto de la Santa, the leaders have a gap of only 1'05.
img7.imageshack.us/img7/4084/520km.jpg

With 4 km of climbing to go, and 16 in the stage, José Luis Roldán attacks out of the leading group and is followed by Chad Beyer and Martin Pedersen. Paolo Longo Borghini follows at 10 seconds and the peloton at 1'04. The domestiques of HTC drop back in the peloton, and suddenly no team wants to make the pace. Is this the luck that the break needs??
img338.imageshack.us/img338/2540/616km.jpg

Martin Pedersen gets the KOTM-points on the summit of the Alto de la Santa, in front of Roldán and Longo Borghini, who has closed the gap. 12km to go, and 9 of them are downhill, and the peloton is '50 back.
img231.imageshack.us/img231/2909/7kotm.jpg

The helicopter gives us a good overview of the situation. The leading group has finished the descend and with 3300metres to go, the lead is still '40. The 4 work together very well, and the peloton, with Omega Pharma - Lotto in the lead, still is '40 behind them.
img542.imageshack.us/img542/6232/83300m.jpg

2km to go and the peloton has taken back a lot of time, from '40 to '21 seconds. Peter Sagan has chosen the backwheel of André Greipel, whereas Cavendish and Boasson Hagen are too far behind.
img11.imageshack.us/img11/1959/92km.jpg

Martin Pedersen knows he is the best sprinter of the 4 leaders, and in the ultimo kilometro, he starts his sprint. The chasing peloton is only '12 behind them. Will it be Pedersen, or the sprinters inside the peloton?
img824.imageshack.us/img824/5286/101km.jpg

It looks like it will be Pedersen! He is already in the last 250 metres and still has a gap to the peloton, whom starts to pass Roldán, Longo Borghini and Beyer. Greipel and Rojas are in the best position, followed by Sagan. Boasson Hagen comes fast from behind.
img24.imageshack.us/img24/3434/11250m.jpg

But they are too late for the stage win! Danish Martin Pedersen takes his first win of the season, and the biggest in his career. Rojas wins the sprint for the 2nd place, followed by Greipel, Boasson Hagen and Sagan.

Word from the DS: This feels like a missed opportunity. First thing is that the break managed to stay away, and second thing is that we hoped that more sprinters would have been droppes in the ascend of the Alto de la Santa. The 5th place for Sagan is good, I think that later in this Vuelta there will come more chances for him. Tomorrow we go to the mountains, with the Alto de Filabres and the summit on the Sierra Nevada. Robert Gesink can't wait!!

Still a good result by Sagan. But i agree, you could have won the stage
Guess who's back? Smile
Lets see how many friens are still around...

Lucky win for pedersen, Sagan's chance comes when there are a bit
more hills on THE route but 5th isn't bad with such good sprinters as cav and

Stage 4 and we already face the highest altitude in this Vuelta. The stage from Baza to Sierra Nevada is 170km long and contains two climbs with a summit of more than 2000 metres above sea level.
img52.imageshack.us/img52/3168/4perfil.jpg

The first climb of the day, immediately after the start, is the Alto de Filabres. It's long (21km), with an easy average gradient (4.7%), but some kilometres of the climb have an average gradient of 10%. The peak has an altitude of 2040 metres.
img191.imageshack.us/img191/4539/altodefilabres.jpg

Wout Poels is determined to get the KOTM-points on the summit of the Alto de Filabres. After a few km of climbing, he reacts to an attack of Manuel Quinziato (BMC). After a few kilometres, he leaves the Italian behind. WIth 145km to go in this stage, and 8km in this climb, the Dutch riders has a gap of '53 to a chasing group.
img718.imageshack.us/img718/821/1145km.jpg

Chasing group, yes... Apparently, a lot of riders have difficulty in finding their rhythm, and because of that, only 11 riders are in the chase of Poels. In this group are 3 riders of our team: Ruijgh, Vanendert & Gesink. They are joined by riders as Johan Tschopp (BMC), Sergio Pardilla & Vasil Kiryienka (Movistar), Konstantin Sioutsou (HTC) and Christophe Riblon & Biel Kadri (AG2R).
img26.imageshack.us/img26/1360/2achtervolgers.jpg

Wout Poels gets what he wanted: being the first rider on the summit of the Alto de Filabres. He decides to wait at the chasing group.
img28.imageshack.us/img28/6083/3kotm1x.jpg

This group crosses the line on the summit at '36. A group with Denis Menchov (Geox) and Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha), with Peter Sagan in it, is 1'49 behind the leader. What has happened in this climb??
img825.imageshack.us/img825/1050/4grgesink.jpg

The group Gesink closes the gap to leader Poels in the descend. When these riders reach the first Intermediate sprint in Huéneja, they are still more than a minute ahead of Menchov, Rodriguez and the others. Robert Gesink takes the 6 points, and more important the 6 seconds, edging out Ribon and Sioutsou in the sprint.
img4.imageshack.us/img4/4080/5is1.jpg

After the Intermediate sprint, the riders from Monster Energy - Ford decide not to work to maintain their lead. Movistar's Sergio Pardilla is the only one who believes in an early breakaway, and decides to go on all alone. With 67km to go, he reaches the 2nd Intermediate sprint with an advantage of '43 to the peloton. The group Menchov - Rodriguez, as well as more than 50 others have closed the gap to the group Gesink. Peter Sagan wins the sprint for the 2nd place, beating JJ Rojas.
img851.imageshack.us/img851/6564/6is2.jpg

Shortly after the IS, with 59km to go, we see a counter-attack by Thomas Rohregger (Leopard) and David Bernabéu (Andalucia). They have to close a gap of 1'53 to Pardilla.
img819.imageshack.us/img819/1576/759km.jpg

Of course Pardilla is the first one to cross the KOTM-sprint of the Puerto de Blancares (3rd category). Bernabéu and Rohregger are 2'03 behind, the peloton 4'37. 42km to go.
img840.imageshack.us/img840/9223/8kotm2.jpg

The last climb of the day, the Sierra Nevada. The climb is not difficult for the steep gradient (3.4%), but the length (23km) and the height (2112, the Cima Alberto Fernández) make it a difficult climb.
img59.imageshack.us/img59/1254/4puerto2.jpg

Pardilla asks for some cold bottles of water and sports-drink when he starts the climb. 23 to go and the lead is 1'45 to Bernabéu & Rohregger and 4'00 to the peloton.
img202.imageshack.us/img202/473/923km.jpg

The luxury domestiques of Lampre (for Cunego) and Monster Energy - Ford make the pace in the peloton. There are 15km left to climb, and the gap to the leader is 3'18.
img856.imageshack.us/img856/4062/1016km.jpg

After an flawless attempt by Tejay van garderen (HTC), we see the first dangerous attack. Ezequiel Mosquera (Vacansoleil), the runner-up from last year, attacks with 14.5 kilometres to go. Van Garderen tries to follow him. The other teams / riders decide not to attack, but to go on with a high pace.
img8.imageshack.us/img8/7208/11mosquera.jpg

The attack by Mosquera is a bad scenario for Pardilla. Under the 10km mark, he is still in the lead, but only by '28 to Mosquera and Bernabéu. The peloton (or what is left of it) follows at 1'06.
img593.imageshack.us/img593/1887/1210km.jpg

Thanks to outstanding work by Jelle Vanendert, the gap to Mosquera gets smaller and smaller and with 7km to go, the Spanish rider is almost caught.
img707.imageshack.us/img707/7689/137km.jpg

And of course, other riders want to profit from the hard work of our team. When Mosquera gets caught, with 6km to go, Luis León Sánchez (Rabobank) attacks. He is followed by Denis Menchov and Mikel Nieve (Euskaltel). Robert Gesink stays calm, and doesn't react.
img210.imageshack.us/img210/8247/146kmlls.jpg

And taht is a good choice by the winner of the Giro d'Italia! Damiano Cunego (Lampre) closes the gap to the 3 escapees, and then Mosquera attack again. Cunego and Joaquim Rodriguez go in the counterattack and this is the time for Gesink to react. With 5km to go, the 4 riders create a gap to the others.
img171.imageshack.us/img171/7338/155km.jpg

Already between the ski resorts of Sierra Nevada, 3km to go, Cunego has a 12-second lead to Mosquera, Rodriguez and Gesink. LL Sánchez follows at '41, Denis Menchov at '55.
img690.imageshack.us/img690/5104/163km.jpg

Purito looses contact with the others at the moment, they have closed the gap to Cunego. Mosquera and Gesink don't hesitate and jump over Cunego. Already in the last kilometre and the battle for the win is between those two.
img18.imageshack.us/img18/4296/171km.jpg

The early attack has costed Mosquera too much energy, so it is an easy sprint for Robert Gesink. The Condor of Varsseveld takes the win in the first mountain stage in this Vuelta and shows that he is THE big favourite for the GC-win. Mosquera finishes 2nd (same time), Cunego 3rd at '16, Rodriguez (4th) & LL Sánchez (5th) at '56 , while Menchov looses 2'01.

The winner:
img202.imageshack.us/img202/9990/23gesink.jpg

Word from the DS: This win came sooner than expected. It proofs what we already thought, that the competition isn't that strong. But it's too early to start celebrating, because there are a lot of difficult stages ahead of us. To start with tomorrow, with the finish in the streets of Valdepenas de Jaén, a wall with gradients up to 27%!

Stage 5 from Sierra Nevada to Valdepenas de Jaén is a difficult one. It it 187km long and the riders reach Valdepenas de Jaén already after 74km. Then follows a big loop through the city of Jaén, before the riders have to climb the Alto de Valdepenas for the 2nd time. The summit is only 8km from the finish, but the riders probably won't attack there. The reason is the last 2km. The explosive end with a 27% "wall" at just 500 metres to a finish line that will once gain be truly epic for fans and participants. In 2010, Joaquim Rodriguez won the stage ending on this wall, so he will be the favourite for today.
img17.imageshack.us/img17/9599/perfilpx.jpg

We kick off with a group of 9 riders that form the BOTD. Jorge Azanza (Euskaltel), Mark Cavendish (HTC), , André Greipel (Omega Pharma), Ben Hermans (Radio Shack), Jonas Aaen Jorgensen (Saxo Bank), Julien Loubet (AG2R), Simone Ponzi (Liquigas), Michael Schär (BMC) and Zdenek Stybar (Quick Step) are the riders in it, and they are closely followed by Fabian Wegmann (Leopard), who tries to reach them. Although there are 2 of the world best sprinters in this group, nobody sprints for the points given at the Intermediate sprint. Jorgensen is the first to cross the line, in front of Stybar and Ponzi. 145km to go and a lead of 3'47 to the peloton.
img24.imageshack.us/img24/8547/1is1.jpg

Wegmann has closed the gap, so we have 10 man in the lead. The German Leopard-rider is also the first on the summit of the first climb of the Alto de Valdepenas, in front of Stybar and Jorgensen. 122km left, and the peloton is 7'30 behind them.
img577.imageshack.us/img577/6938/2kotm1.jpg

40km later on the road, the leading group still has an advantage of 7'30 to the peloton. Again, nobody sprints for the points and Jorgensen is the first on the line, before Greipel and Azanza.
img810.imageshack.us/img810/3839/3is2.jpg

The 2nd climb of the Alto de Valdepenas has started and Katusha and Lampre do the pace in the peloton. Their leaders Rodriguez and Cunego are the biggest favourites for today. But the gap to the leading group still is 3'30!
img403.imageshack.us/img403/6138/425km.jpg

Then an attack out of the peloton. Geox David de la Fuente attacks with 18km (and 3'00 behind the leading group) left, but gets cuaght shortly after.
img406.imageshack.us/img406/3773/5delafuente.jpg

The 10 leaders have become 2.... Only Jorgensen and Hermans are in front of the peloton at the summit of the Alto de Valdepenas. They start the descend to Valdepenas de Jaen with a lead of '55.
img403.imageshack.us/img403/2815/6kotm2.jpg

Jelle Vanendert is the third on the summit, while leading out the peloton.
img853.imageshack.us/img853/5900/7peloton.jpg

Jorgensen and Hermans maintain their '55-lead in the descend. They're already in the last 3 kilometres and start the final climb.
img200.imageshack.us/img200/5439/83km.jpg

Damiano Cunego waits untill the 2km-mark and attacks at the steepest part of the climb. Joaquim Rodriguez follows him. Robert Gesink is bad positioned and is blocked by Daniel Moreno and teammate Rob Ruijgh. Jelle Vanendert is the best placed rider from our team now.
img707.imageshack.us/img707/1959/92km.jpg

Of course, Il Piccolo Principe and Purito pass the 2 leaders and will fight out the win. Purito takes over with 800 metres to go. '17 behind them is a group of 5: Vanendert, Mosquera, Gesink, LL Sánchez and Hermans.
img840.imageshack.us/img840/5286/101km.jpg

Rodriguez wins in Valdepenas de Jaén, just like last year. Cunego comes in in 2nd place and then the clock starts ticking. Vanendert is 3rd at '14, Mosquera 4th at '26, Gesink 5th at '31, LL Sánchez 6th at '36 and Sagan & Ruijgh 7th and 8th at '46. Denis Menchov looses another '54.

Word from the DS: We expected some time loss today for Gesink. He simply isn't explosive enough for these short and steep climbs. We can be satisfied with the 31 seconds. And we are very happy with the team performance, 4 riders in the top 10!!

unfortunaly that Gesink can go with the other favorites but still nice result ( 3 jerseys and 3 in the GC)

We switch to Belgium for a 1.1 classic with some cobbles in it. The start and finish are in Overijse, and the most difficult part is the climb of the Schavei.
img5.imageshack.us/img5/5616/profielr.jpg

Vacansoleil Bjorn Leukemans was the fastest in 2010, but he won't defend his title, as his entire team isn't present here.
img202.imageshack.us/img202/2055/leukemans2010.jpg

In fact, the startfield is pretty weak, with only Skil, Landbouwkrediet and a lost cobbles-rider (e.g. Karsten Kroon) as the main opponents of the Monster-guys.

Our team:
img16.imageshack.us/img16/4546/ploeg.jpg

Our goal: We want the win in Overijse. And because we don't feel like to be the team that is to work hard to catch the BOTD, we'll try to be in the break. Stagaires Lootens, Dupont and Veldkamp can gain some experience here.

We try hard to be in every break that exists, and succeed in it. Because of this, after 100km of cycling, the teams of Skil, BMC and Landbouwkrediet have to work very hard to catch our guys again, simply because Maaskant, Vanmarcke & Rosseler (these are the guys trying) are too dangerous.
img560.imageshack.us/img560/4417/195km.jpg

And finally, after more than 110km, a group gets the space from the peloton. In it: C. Meyer (Garmin), P. Schlting (Jo Piels), T. Barkschacht (LKT Brandenburg) and Sébastien Rosseler. The domestiques of Skil, BMC and Landbouwkrediet must have become too tired to chase them, because the gap grows rapidly to 2'30 (75km to go).
img189.imageshack.us/img189/2388/275km.jpg

During the first climb of the Schavei, Rosseler finds out that he is by far the strongest in the breakaway. He waits one more lap, and in the 2nd climb of the Schavei, with 38km to go, he easily rides away from his opponents. The gap to the peloton is still 2'40.
img62.imageshack.us/img62/4222/338km.jpg

Rosseler extends his lead to the peloton. With 20km to go, it is 4'48, so he knows it is in the pocket. The reason for this is that the chase isn't organized and the Monster Energy - Ford riders disrupt any possible chase.
img38.imageshack.us/img38/1161/420km.jpg

8km to go, and Rosseler is in the last ascend of the Schavei. The chasing group is 4'43 back (and you can't call it a chasing group).
img840.imageshack.us/img840/9046/58km.jpg

Niki Terpstra tries to ride away, but he is joined by James Vanlandschoot (Veranda's Willems). Because of this, he decides to wait and we try to help Martijn Maaskant getting a 2nd place.
img402.imageshack.us/img402/5813/67km.jpg

Meanwhile, Sébastien Rosseler can celebrate his 3rd win of the season (besides stage wins in the 3-daagse West-Vlaanderen and the Eneco Tour).
img210.imageshack.us/img210/6512/7finish.jpg

2'53 behind, Martijn Maaskant succeeds in sprinting to the 2nd place. Bert Scheirlinckx (Landbouwkrediet) can take place on the lowest place on the podium. Terpstra gets 5th place.

The winner:

Word from the DS: This was easy. Don't know if it was because of our brilliant tactic, or because of the weak opponents. Think it was the first Wink. Anyway, I'm happy for Rosseler and also want to mention the 25th place for stagiaire Cees Veldkamp, who could hang on to the group Maaskant-Terpstra untill the last climb of the Schavei.

A must, or can't be missed..... I think we are already sure of it.
