Bak is a machine, has he taken the place of Eisel? Or will Eisel be the body guard in the tour?
Was that Bak? I thought it was Rasmussen.
Cav was dominating as usual.
Pozzato sucks!

Damn you Cavendish !
Three 5th's, a 6th and now a second in his first grand tour at just 21. Brilliant riding by Appo-Jet
Appollonio, Siwft and Hagen, what is the need for Cavendish in Sky

In two years Swift will be better than Cav. Remeber my words
If Cav got in, then many sprinters would probable leave. Swifty ? Hagen ? Sutton ? Appollonio ? Better to have four developing sprinters than one fat one.
Cipollini calls Cavendish ‘fat’
Mario Cipollini had some harsh words for Mark Cavendish in his daily column in La Gazzetta dello Sport. First, he criticized HTC for leaving Cavendish isolated in the sprint before questioning the Manxster’s commitment to his profession.
“Mark is being mismanaged. I do not believe he’s 100 percent devoted to his profession and, in fact, he’s fat. How is it possible that someone as talented as him has only won three races this season?”

Bak did the long relay, Rasmussen took over for him, then Renshaw and Cav. |

Since when was Hagen still developing? I thought he was an intergalactic superstar.
If offense is the best defence, does it mean that defence is the worst defence?

Hegen got hit by a lot of injuires lately. Three broken ribs before Amstel and a strained Achilles after Milano Sanremo. Similar to last year. We have to yet wait to judge him, probably Dauphine, Eneco and Tour will be his real goals this year. He is definitely not a star, Swifty is more of a star than he is this season.

Do you want to be taken seriously? If so, dont quote that load of crap. Plenty of flaws in Cipollini's argument. First of all, you cant really criticize HTC - they provide Cav a better service than any other team does for their own sprinters. AND he won the stage.Only won 3 races this season (now 4)? Were you not paying attention last year Cipollini? Or perhaps when Cavendish has said this season, how he is riding all 3 GTs, with the 2 main targets being the TDF and the Worlds - no point winning irrelevant races early on and running out of energy later in the season is there.
Next thing Cipollini will be complaining that Cav had withdrawn from the Giro before the Mountains...
Now then, Sky. Swift isnt going anywhere, and besides, he sees himself as an all rounder with a fast finish - rather than a pure sprinter like Cavendish.
You could perhaps categorise Hagen similarly - he isnt a pure sprinter. He can sprint, but if he gets over his injuries then I dont necesarilly think being one of the top sprinters in the World is his main target in cycling. (No idea what it would be though, he seems in danger of becoming good at various aspects, but a master at none - plenty of time to change that mind)
So that leaves Sutton and Appollonio. Sutton has slipped down the pecking order, shouldnt really be classed as developing and I dont think would be particularly missed, results wise - a Cavendish arrival would likely also bring the likes of Renshaw aswell afterall and Renshaw is better than Sutton.
And Appollonio. He is showing potential, but give Sky a straight choice between Cavendish and Appollonio ... go figure.
Im not sure Id particularly want Cavendish in Sky - they have a nice dynamic without him - but the bottom line is that as a sponsor, more importantly a British sponsor, Sky will want him. If he isnt at HTC, then the other option seems BMC (GreenEdge I dont see happening) and unless theyre paying more, Sky will have more appeal to Cavendish - not just nationality, but in terms of skill in sprints.

I quoted Cipollini as a joke really and I completely agree with you. Cav is the best sprinter and has two big targets later in the season. He didnt have any targets in early season and got unlucky with few falls. HTC is the best team Cav could wish for and Cipolini is talking nonsense, but the Cav comment was meant to be jok-ish in first place.
If Cav came Swift wouldnt be given as many opportunities as now and would probably become part of the train. Hagen maybe would leave, in interview not so long ago he said he wouldnt be too happy doing lead outs for Cav if he came to Sky. It was one of the reasons he left HTC. Sutton was a bad example and no matter what he will leave to GreenEdge.
I don't want Sky to become next HTC. Sky has their base of talented sprinters and imo there is no need for Cav. Sure he would give them a lot of great victories and publicity but I feel with Cav GC's wouldnt matter a lot and trains would be more important. Also I think the signing would put pressure on the team to win, and if they didnt..... Also think having Cav in team would cause tension between some riders. Altough I completely agree with your point of why to have Cav, for me personally Sky can be a better team without him.

Lets see how many opportunities Swift gets this year first! He went into the year probably as the #4 sprinter in the team, now Id say he is on a par with Henderson in the team hierarchy - but whether thats top spot or number 2, depends on where Hagen fits in.
The key will be seeing Sky's TDF squad.

Agreed, he got his breaktrough performace at Down Under. Then he was Sky main spriner at Castilla and won stage and same in Romandie.
Actually I wouldn't put him into the tour squad. Let him go to smaller races like Pologne etc. And focus on Vuelta which was his goal before this season and he should do very well there. I put him at Sky best sprinter now, I don't think Henderson is as fast as him, but Hendo's experience equals it a little.
Hagen at top form is Sky best sprinter but with his luck this season I honestly don't know how his spritning is. He put a great show in Oman and after this almost didn't race at all. I think Dauphine/Suisse might be deciding factor for who Sky will have as the main sprinter. Hagen needs to perform if he wants to get it though.

Are you sure? I heard that he was going to help Scarponi as much as he could, and then try to make it to Milano?

Well, the flattest remaining stage is:
Thats almost a week away - with a lot of climbing in between - and imo, has breakaway written all over it.
