I may lack knowledge on pro cyclists, so I must ask, what was the link between Weylandt and Farrar making it so special to Farrar ?

Faith isn't always nice, when the team is based upon lies and disloyalty - Not that it has anything to do with Weylandt. That was purely bad luck on several different occassions.

If Leopard team stay in the giro, imagine a breakaway with 2 riders arrive for the win with one of the riders belonging to Team Leopard, how can the other rider not let him win....
Team Europcar !!
RIP Wouter

That's what Leopard should do, send one man in a breakaway every day for the rest of the Giro |

Feel the risin’ hope and the sky will open
Take my hand, don’t stall, have faith
Though the road is long, there are golden gardens
At the sweet end of your trail
Lay down now, I’ll ease your heart, erase your frown
To light up the darkness in your dreams
I will be here
And we’ll find the freedom you left behind
Capture the sun, the source, it shone
You were never alone
RIP

For the people who don't have Facebook, here the full text that is written on the teams facebookpage:
The riders of LEOPARD TREK wish to communicate that they will leave the Giro d’Italia as of tonight, following the tragic accident of their teammate and friend Wouter Weylandt.
This choice of the riders has the full support of the staff and management of LEOPARD TREK. General Manager Brian Nygaard: “The decision needed to be taken by the riders, because they are the ones that participate in the race. We have always said that we would stand behind their choice.”
“We wish to thank the other teams, the race organisation RCS, the Italian authorities and all the fans on the road between Genova and Livorno on today’s stage, as the peloton paid tribute to Wouter Weylandt.”
Team Captain Fabian Wegmann explains the rider’s decision. “We have a lot of respect for the Giro d’Italia and for cycling, but we simply cannot continue racing given the circumstances. We are professional athletes, but we feel this is the right thing to do.”

Reasonable decision by both Leopard and Sky.
Leopard: Understandable. I was training on my bike today, and I have to say, I had to push it home after 5km... I think It was hard enough for them to start today, a neutralized stage.
Sky: Crostis isnt a save climb after all. As from the pictures i saw, that road is in a worse condition than the gravel roads they were riding on in recent years...

Dont know if it was mentioned already, but apparently Weylandt had doubts about his health since the Giro started and considered it a dangerous race. According to the article (in german) he texted to his manager that: the race is dangerous, it is raced very hectical.
Poor guy...
For those who can read german:

Yesterday we lost a great person and true friend - In these hard times we especially want to think of those who were closest to Wouter: his family.
We have created a donation account (see below) to support them financially as much as we can. Everyone of you can donate to this account. All donations will go directly to Wouter's family.

I hadn't realized until now but the Giro is on TV this year for Canadians on Rogers Sportsnet1.
For those that see this it starts in 50 minutes.
