Happy New Year!!!

I will be back home on the 3rd probably. I have already played one more Dauphinee stage before Christmas. So I will post it quite fast then I guess.

After my "week off" over Christmas and New Year I am back home again. So the story can go on. The next Dauphine stage was already played on 22/12/10 and I hope I don`t miss some important information.

Criterium du Dauphine - Stage 7
Annecy-Le-Vieux - Aime-La-Plagne
img585.imageshack.us/img585/5065/pcm0001p.jpg
After two prologue wins in a row the expectations are quite high. But Hesjedal is realistic enough to value himself. He had already light difficulties on the final climb yesterday and this stage is even harder. It`s a bit shorter but therefore there are more mountains. More than 5000m of climbing heights ending on the Cote Aime La Plagne. Our goal is to defend our 4th in the overall, so we must especially take care for Egoi Martinez, who is just 1s behind.

img143.imageshack.us/img143/89/pcm0003.jpg
On the Colombiere a few riders attacked and form the group of the day. As yesterday Roman Kireyev (Astana) is there to collect KoM points. Also Danny Pate is in there to show our Garmin sponsor.

img145.imageshack.us/img145/3654/pcm0004.jpg
The 10th in the overall, Laurens Ten Dam is attacking very early on the second climb. He is just +4'17 to Kreuziger and a bit more than 1'30 to the podium. Obviously we should take care for him. But that early no one is following him and so he is going for a solo ride.

img825.imageshack.us/img825/4629/pcm0005.jpg
Especially Sky with Pauwels and partly RadioShack are doing the pace. Hesjedal is always next to the other favourites Wiggins, Brajkovic and Kreuziger. So far so good.

img268.imageshack.us/img268/9830/pcm0006o.jpg
After passing the breakaway Ten Dam is now in front and Astana is doing a higher pace on the second last climb for some reason. Their best rider in the overall is Fofonov with almost 20min back. Also this stage might be much too hard for Vinokourov as he decreased a lot.

img525.imageshack.us/img525/3595/pcm0007y.jpg
Ten Dam is winning the KoM sprint on the Roselend and will gain many positions in this ranking today. But it`s Kireyev, who took most sprints and so he will wear the jersey tomorrow with a nice advance.

img132.imageshack.us/img132/8691/pcm0008a.jpg
Some time later the smaller peloton is crossing the top, too. It`s still Pauwels with a great effort leading the group. Also Lowe is still there to support Hesjedal. For Ten Dam it`s not looking that good as the advance melts a lot now.

img46.imageshack.us/img46/7236/pcm0009.jpg
The final climb is beginning and the favourites can already see the Rabobank rider. So he might lose some positions today or is he still strpng enough to hold contact?
`
img24.imageshack.us/img24/1310/pcm0010s.jpg
10km uphill and still Pauwels. Behind him Wiggins, Kreuziger, Brajkovic and Hesjedal.

img17.imageshack.us/img17/8236/pcm0011.jpg
The first attacks. Wiggins and Kreuziger were the first but nobody was able to follow. But when Martinez attacked, Hesjedal had to follow also he doesn`t feel that well now. Monfort is joining the attack like several other riders.

On the next meters there are 3 main groups. Wiggins and Kreuziger are leading the race.
Brajkovic, Monfort, Di Gregorio with another great performance and surprisingly C.A. Sörensen are chasing them. (+20)
In the next group Hesjedal and Martinez are fighting for this 1s. They are escorted by the other two Saxobank riders Fuglsang and Porte and Taaramae. (+40)

img232.imageshack.us/img232/6720/pcm0012v.jpg
Wiggins takes the win ahead of Kreuziger. So the Czeck rider will probably take the win in the overall in 2011 and Wiggins saved his podium.

img713.imageshack.us/img713/9241/pcm0013.jpg
Sörensen is even sprinting on the 3rd with +29. Great performance by the Dane. 15s later Hesjedal arrives with the same time than Martinez. Still 4th in the overall, goal accomplished. He is looking forward for the Tour de France now. His shape should be great then.

Great ride by Ryder. Glad this is back. It's nicer to read stories on an iPod actually.

Thanks.
Before the next report I have some more news about the planning of the 2012 team.
As we want 3 new riders, that can help us immediately (sprinter, stage racer, ?Felline?), we need 3 free slots first.

I thought a long time, who I need in the next season the most and who has to look for a new team.
Our result is:

1
img98.imageshack.us/img98/1898/deanbw.jpg
Julian Dean is one of our oldest riders and decreased a lot.

Palmares:
2010:
5x top10 (stages)

2011:
---

2
img23.imageshack.us/img23/3748/tuftd.jpg
With 34 years the Canadian Svein Tuft also decreased lightly in 2011. He had some great results in 2010 but so far no single result this season.

Palmares:
2010:
1st TTT Giro d'Italia
5th WC ITT
5th Tour of Oman
7th Tour of Qatar

2011:
---

3

This was probably the hardest decision as Danielson had some good results this season. But his contract ends after this season and there was no real alternative for him. But we are sure that he can find another squad to show that he is still able to ride 1-2 seasons in a good level.

Palmares:
2010:
1st KoM Tour de France
9th Eneco Tour

2011:
2nd Criterium International
14th Amgen Tour of California
15th Skoda Tour Luxembourg

But we have also news about two riders, which contract will end, we want to hold for another season. These 2 were the alternative for Danielson but we think they suit better in our squad next season. We still wait for their final decision, but we are very optimistic.

img254.imageshack.us/img254/6408/fischerj.jpg
Murilo Fischer had surprising great results in 2010. Most of his races are still coming in 2011. So we still hope for some good results. Also we think he can ride at least one more season without decreasing too much. He is a good helper in most races and also always good for a surprise.

Palmares
2010:
1 stage Vuelta a Pais Vasco
1 stage Tour of Pologne
1st Sparkassen Giro
1st KoM Paris - Nice
7th Vattenfall Cyclassics

2011:
3rd Omloop Het Nieuwsblad

img717.imageshack.us/img717/5116/zabriskie.jpg
Zabriskie convinced us with the top 10 results in Luxembourg and California. He feels good in our team and will be a great helper in harder stages but also riding on his own as this season. That he is a much better hilly rider than Danielson tipped the scales as we have more climbers than puncheurs.

Palmares
2010:
1st USA Road
1st and 1 stage Tour of Oman
4th Tour of Qatar
4th USA ITT
5th Amgen Tour of California

2011:
8th Skoda Tour Luxembourg
10th Amgen Tour of California
14th Vuelta a Murcia

Tuco the Ugly
Transfers seem to make sense so far. Am interested to see who you bring in.

I am not sure about Danielson, at least he won the mountain jersey at the most important race of the world... But I am happy for Zabriskie, hes a really good rider. Looking forward for the new riders Smile

My dream is to get Goss (79sp), Van Garderen and Felline, but it might be hard to get the HTC guys.
So alternatives could be Fuglsang, Porte, Ciolek, Haussler (not probably as he is much too expensive) or Ben Swift.

@Janne
Same problem here. He had good results. But he is just 75mo, 70hi and will decrease more next season. Weaker riders like Duggan or Rowe and Kreder, if they don`t start to increase as they have still stars left have contracts for at least one more season. Stetina and Lowe are almost as good as Danielson and much younger.

That sounds great! Haussler would be amazing but as you said, he might not be that cheap

This flat is totally flat. Although you can see some hills on the profile, there is less than 200 climbing meters on 200km with no slopes higher than 1%. So we expect a sprint here. As there are just a very few sprinters here it could end very weird. Most important for us is to stay in the leader jersey with Boom, Biggest opponent might be Roelandts, who is a average sprinter and average cobble rider and so he can be very dangerous because of the bonus seconds.
Another good bet for today is Sebastien Chavanel, the best sprinter in this field.

img510.imageshack.us/img510/9822/pcm0002a.jpg
A group of 7 riders were attacking immediately after the start. Most famous might be Milram`s Rohregger. Although none of them is a good rider for tomorrow`s stage we must be careful as the time gaps are very tiny after the short prologue.

img832.imageshack.us/img832/2279/pcm0003v.jpg
So Meier and the big surprise of the prologue Peterson are doing the pace. It`s not very high actually but the advance freezes at about 5min.

With 60km and 4min other teams like FDJ were helping out. 20km to the finish the group was caught as expected.

img521.imageshack.us/img521/2110/pcm0004m.jpg
Just 5km and many sprint trains are formed. Chavanel, Vigano and Stroetinga have the best position. Boom and Bobridge are hanging on the Sky train. Roelandts is behind the two Rabobank riders.
All other sprinters are more than 30s back and no danger for Boom today.

img194.imageshack.us/img194/464/pcm0005sd.jpg
In a very close sprint Reinier Honig wins quite surprising ahead of Chavanel and Boom. Bobridge on 6 completes our great result. Roelandts had no energy for a long sprint and lost his top speed already 1km to the line. Bobridge even overtakes Cornu with this good result and the Garmin domination continues. Tomorrow will be a very hard stage with many cobbles, probably just Vandervelde might stay with Boom quite long.

Tour de Suisse - Stage 2
Ascona - Sierre
img827.imageshack.us/img827/9008/pcm0001b.jpg
Officially it`s a flat stage, but the mountain is long and steep with many parts with more than 10%. Plus the second mountain sprint 13km to the finish could be a problem for some sprinters.
But nevertheless our goal is to defend the jersey with Farrar and maybe even win the stage.

img222.imageshack.us/img222/6563/pcm0002.jpg
After the sprint a few riders are in front. There aren`t big climbers in there but with Ciolek and Bazayev 2 good sprinters stayed in the group after winning the intermediate. Not sure if this was purpose or not but at least they just suck instead of supporting the others.

img408.imageshack.us/img408/5219/pcm0003w.jpg
Löw and Dao doing a good job in the peloton holding the gap around 5min. Unfortunately they can`t set a higher pace as Farrar will have problems otherwise as he is a weaker climber than these two young neo pros.

img87.imageshack.us/img87/1982/pcm0004t.jpg
Olivier Kaisen wins the KoM sprint ahead of Smukulis and Nordhaug and will wear the jersey tomorrow. The two sprinters are still sucking wheels.
80km to go and about 6min for the group.

img35.imageshack.us/img35/9202/pcm0005e.jpg
Unfortunately we haven`t gained much time on the descent and so there are still Bazayev and Ciolek in front with 1min after the 2nd mountain, which was much harder than expected. Farrar is already at the limit and won`t win today.
Also the very small hill at 155km was extremely steep. This broke Farrar`s neck and it will be hard to get a top 10 now. On the other hand the other sprinters might have same problems.

img339.imageshack.us/img339/8145/pcm0006r.jpg
Bazayev wins the sprint from the first position. Obviously Ciolek had no more energy left as he is the stronger sprinter normally. So the guys that sucked wheels for 140km come in first. Ginanni leads the peloton with +1'06 over the line. Most riders in the top 10 were much better hilly riders than Farrar, so he must be pleased with the 16th. Sanchez on 11 is our best man today. We lost the jersey to Astana but hopefully we will get better results in the mountain stages although Sanchez form isn`t perfect (72).
Another bad news for Team RadioShack. Simon Spilak, their leader had to give up with an dislocated elbow and will miss until end of July. He was their only man for the mountains.

baia
You still have good chances for GC overall..

There are no real hard mountain stages, so it`s just about surviving the mountain stages. The main decision might fall in the final ITT. Hope I will have a form about 80-85 then for a nice result with Sanchez.

Criterium du Dauphine - Stage 8
Bourg-St-Maurice - Grenoble
img34.imageshack.us/img34/9135/pcm0001w.jpg
Todays stage is pretty flat. Just the last 3km are a bit uphill. We hope that this could suit Rojas as he is one of the better puncheurs of the participating sprinters. But more important is to hold Hesjedal`s 4th.

img340.imageshack.us/img340/3162/pcm0002x.jpg
A group around Garmin`s Kreder attacked after the start. Most dangerous man is Matteo Carrara as 29th with +12'12.
Kreder is supposed to try his luck today as he should be a good rider for this kind of stage out of a breakaway. We are still waiting for some results of him and especially some improvement. He is still young and can improve but is stagnated since the begin of 2010.

img524.imageshack.us/img524/89/pcm0003.jpg
Quickstep is planning something today. As only team they are chasing the group. At the moment it doesn`t look very good for Kreder.
Tom Boonen is also a good bet here, but maybe they will go for Pineau, who could be able to attack on the final climb. We`ll see.

img837.imageshack.us/img837/3654/pcm0004.jpg
Kreder is still doing lots of work in the group. 30km left and still 2'38 for them.

img832.imageshack.us/img832/4629/pcm0005.jpg
But in Grenoble directly before the final Carrara is the last, who gets caught. He tried it with a final desperate attack.

img217.imageshack.us/img217/5339/pcm0006d.jpg
The sprint starts and Rojas in an great position behind Bonnet, Goss and next to Leezer.

img510.imageshack.us/img510/273/pcm0007.jpg
But in the end Cavendish won easily ahead of Boonen and Mondory. Unfortunately Rojas was too early in the wind, so all 4 sprinters we supposed to be in an excellent position had no more energy left and felt back. Therefore Hesjedal showed his sprint skills once again on 8 and defends his 4th as expected. Good result for him in preparation for the Tour. Kreuziger of course will win this edition ahead of Brajkovic and Wiggins.
