Tour of Pologne. Not always the most exciting race, but a great chance to pick up some good points for the Rankings |

Tour de Pologne
The only World Tour race in former Eastern Europe is the Tour de Pologne, a stage race of 7 stages with lots of hills. It's already the 71st edition, but only since the final 20 years, the startlist is not only Eastern-European. Last year, we dominated here, with Thomas Dekker taking the GC-win.
The Route
The first 3 stages are for the sprinters. First, a 101km stage to the Polish capitol of Warszawa, followed by 2 more flat stages to Dabrowa Górnicz (162km) and Katowice (135km).
Stage 4 to Cieszyn is the first of 3 hilly stages, and it's the least difficult of the 3. Then follows a 201km stage with start and finish in Zakopane, that features 15 climbs. The 6th stage is even more difficult: also 15 climbs, but longer and steeper, 207km and an uphill finish in Bukowina Tatrzanska. The last stage is a 128km flat stage to Krakow.

The Favourites
*** Heinrich Haussler (Radio Shack), Wilco Kelderman, Marco Marcato (Vacansoleil).
** Gabriele Bosisio (Lampre), Matthias Frank (Red Bull), Diego López (Euskaltel).
* Chris Froome (Radio Shack), Peter Sagan, Yuri Trofimov (Astana).
Our Goal
With most of our riders starting with a fitness of 80 and lower (and 2 trainees), it'll be difficult here. Still, the goal is a stage win and the top 3 of the GC.

Stage 1
The Tour de Pologne kicks off with a 101km stage from Pruszków to the capitol Warszawa. And as expected, the stage ends in a mass sprint. We decide to set up a nice sprint train with Vanmarcke-Westra-Kelderman-Sagan and despite the low fitness of more of the riders, Sagan manages to get a nice 4th place. Heinrich Haussler takes his first win of the season (in 60 races!), beating Marco Marcato (Vacansoleil) and Greg Van Avermaet (Sony Ericsson).

Stage 3
Next stage, 133 kilometres from Bedzin to Katowice, and again flat.
100km to go
Even before his GC-opponents have noticed it, Wilco Kelderman has made a very early attack, together with Lieuwe Westra. Reason for it: 2 Intermediate sprints in the first 25 kilometres. And Kelderman manages to collect 5 bonus seconds, which can be very valuable after the final stage! And of course, the 2 take it easy after the 2nd sprint, and take back their places in the peloton.
Finish
5 riders attack out of the peloton after the 2 Intermediate sprints, and the peloton miscalculates the chase. Well, peloton.... Only our team is chasing them, it lasts untill 25km before the finish before Radio Shack takes over. At that time, the margin is still 5 minutes.
Europcars Aurélien Duval attacks out of the BOTD with 10km to go, and solos to the stage win, his first ever professional win. Also Sheldon Deeny (Garmin) and Michael Reihs (Saxo Bank) manage to finish in front of the peloton. Haussler wins the sprint for the 4th place, beating Sagan again. No time gaps given.

Great ride by Kelderman in collecting 5 bonus seconds. And lame other teams, not chasing with us.

Kelderman with some valuable seconds, great
Tour-scenario once again. It seems your sprinters are poison, nobody wants to chase with them aboard.
PS The thread title is still TDF instead of Poland |

I don't think is good for Gesink to go in Vuelta. He need a long holiday after his victory in TdF.I think is better for him to return in Canadian Races and to peak for WC.A TdF-WC double sound more realistically than a TdF-Vuelta double(or TdF victory-Vuelta podium). If you send Gesink in Vuelta just for stage victory it's okay but for GC doesn't sound realistically in my opinion.

@ Schleck96: just busy....
@ sutty: just wait
@ romaniangoat: nice to see you used your first post for my story. Well, as I simulate the WC every year, I'm really not interested in that. And when he won't ride the Vuelta, I'll be without a podium-contender there. So it'll be the Vuelta!

Stage 4
The first of 3 hilly stages, from Oswiecim to Cieszyn. The hardest part is the middle part of the stage, with 4 climbs.
And we have a peloton failure! 11 riders form the BOTD, and the peloton isn't interested in chasing them. So when the margin is 11'30 with 60km to go, we decide to do something about it, so that the GC ain't completely gone here.
In the end, Radio Shack helps a bit, but the 11 stay out of reach.
Johan Vansummeren is going to win the stage after a late attack, but when he stalls completely in the last km, he gets overtaken by 2 countrymen in the sprint. And Toch Van der Sande takes the win (also won a Tour-stage!!), beatin Stijn Devolder. The 3rd place goes to Arkaitz Durán. Peter Sagan beats Heinrich Haussler in the sprint for 12th place at 5'44.

Okay, we're getting used to the fact that most teams don't want to chase a BOTD. Now I'm curious to see how many of the 11 can hang on to the strong hilly riders in the 2 following hilly stages. I'm sure, a top 5 will be possible for us, but not the win.

Ouch, that must hurt. Petronas is getting isolated in the peloton. (like Sagan irl), nobody wants to cooperate anymore. |
