The rest day yesterday was really good. I was starting to hurt and getting that rest day was great! Now I have to look to the next few days and stay our of trouble.
The 16th stage is a 146.9km mountain stage. I am the very best climber here and I'm on great form. I really hope I can keep this form till the World Championships.
No race
The race just got skipped....Really weird. No changes to GC at all. And No one won the stage.
A flat stage. Rojas Gil is trying for stage win #2.
1 | Arnaud Démare | Garmin - Sharp | 3h56'20 | 2 | John Degenkolb | Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team | s.t. | 3 | Boy Van Poppel | Orica-GreenEDGE | s.t. | 4 | Nacer Bouhanni | FDJ | s.t. | 5 | Tom Veelers | Garmin - Sharp | s.t. | 6 | Matteo Trentin | Cannondale Pro Cycling | s.t. | 7 | Daniel Oss | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 8 | Matthew Goss | BNP Paribas Fortis | s.t. | 9 | Roberto Ferrari | Lampre-Merida | s.t. | 10 | José Joaquin Rojas Gil | Bancolombia - Movistar Cycling Team | s.t. |
A 187.3km hilly stage. I am a long way in front. I don't think there is any way, unless a crash, that I can lose the GC.
1 | Nairo Quintana | Bancolombia - Movistar Cycling Team | 4h39'20 | 2 | Jelle Vanendert | Lotto Belisol | s.t. | 3 | Alejandro Valverde | Bancolombia - Movistar Cycling Team | s.t. | 4 | Robert Kiserlovski | Radioshack Leopard | + 34 | 5 | Joaquin Rodriguez | Katusha Team | + 1'05 | 6 | Michele Scarponi | Lampre-Merida | s.t. | 7 | Janez Brajkovic | Astana Pro Team | + 1'32 | 8 | Carlos Alberto Betancur | Ag2r La Mondiale | + 1'44 | 9 | Rui Costa | Bancolombia - Movistar Cycling Team | s.t. | 10 | Beñat Intxausti | Bancolombia - Movistar Cycling Team | s.t. |
3 days left of the Vuelta! Can't believe its almost over. I am leading by a lot. Valverde is 5th and Intxausti 10th (I am simulating the last 3 due to the game crashing heaps).
One final hilly stage
1 | Jelle Vanendert | Lotto Belisol | 4h14'31 | 2 | Bauke Mollema | Team Europcar | s.t. | 3 | Samuel Sánchez | Euskaltel Euskadi | s.t. | 4 | Janez Brajkovic | Astana Pro Team | + 37 | 5 | Giovanni Visconti | Bancolombia - Movistar Cycling Team | s.t. | 6 | Nairo Quintana | Bancolombia - Movistar Cycling Team | + 47 | 7 | Joaquin Rodriguez | Katusha Team | s.t. | 8 | Carlos Alberto Betancur | Ag2r La Mondiale | s.t. | 9 | Alejandro Valverde | Bancolombia - Movistar Cycling Team | + 1'02 | 10 | Tanel Kangert | Astana Pro Team | s.t. |
The 20th stage is by far the biggest! Today we climb the Angliru. This is where the Vuelta can be won or lost. (YAY!! I got this one working!)
The breakaway of 5 include Tuft, Sprick, Pietropolli, Sorenson and Moinard who have all had their fair share of breakaways. They have 2.53 on the peloton.
Thibaut Pinot (9th GC) crashed with 110km to go. He quickly got up however and rejoined the peloton.
Attacks started on the 2nd last climb. Costa got straight on the front with Valverde, Intxausti and me on his wheel.
All of the favourites started attacking at the bottom of the Angliru. Intxausti took over from Costa there.
With 5km to go Intxausti had almost brought us up to the leaders.
1km to go. I had just caught up with the leading 3.
I WIN ON THE ANGLIRU!!!!
2nd is Betancur and 3rd Rodriguez. Intxausti comes 5th and Valverde 6th.

What a stage! I'm so happy with that. My 6th win and most likely the GC is mine! One flat stage to go and we will try to get Rojas Gil his 2nd win.
Seeya then

The final day. I call it the celebration day. Rojas Gil has one more stage to try and get his 2nd win of the Vuelta. I am going to try and help him achieve that.
The final day! A 96km flat stage into Madrid. Rojas Gil wants to be 1st there.
With 11km to go the leadout was worked out for Rojas Gil. It was Gutierrez leading, then Visconti, then I would do the final leadout and Rojas will try to finish it off.
The final leadout had begun for everyone. Orica-GreenEdge was leading with Garmin-Sharp right behind then us.
1km to go Rojas Gil was pulling out of my leadout.
Rojas wasn't strong enough and it is Degonkolb who takes the win.
2nd is Oss and 3rd Demare. Rojas Gil could only manage 7th which is still a great result.
Well I did it!! I mean we did it!! I don't know who did it!!! I have just achieved the Giro-Vuelta DOUBLE!!! I won every classification in the Vuelta too which is a record in itself! We had 3 riders in the top 10 as well! I was in 1st, Valverde 5th and Intxausti came in an awesome 8th place! What a great Vuelta we had! It was amazing! We are going out to celebrate now!
Seeya later

12th September 2014
Well today I was mostly getting ready for tomorrow. It is the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal which is the first of 2 Canadian classics. I have just come of winning the Vuelta and doing the Giro-Vuelta double. I wanted to continue my winning streak all the way up to the World Championships. I had gotten back from my final training ride and I was all ready to race tomorrow.
I started cooking dinner which consisted of.....well, dry pasta. I got distracted by a knock on my hotel room door. My mum walked in...she was in tears. I had no idea what happened. She came in and we started talking. What she told me was like a bomb going off in my head. It was like the whole world stopped in a split second. She pulled out a frame that she made. It said

13th September 2014
I was at the start line. I didn't want to race today but mum told me that I had too. There was no option. She said dad would want me to race today and she was right. So I was at the start line ready to go.
As the race began I was mainly thinking about my dad. I hadn't seen him since the start of the Tour of Elk Grove. I stayed in America for the Elk Grove and Tour of Utah and then I went straight to Spain for the Vuelta. I travelled straight here a few days after the Vuelta to ride the circuit of the 2 Canadian Classics. I was going to see them after these races as I prepared for the World Championships but I guess I was too late. Dad's gone, Mum's here but not herself and I haven't even seen my little brother yet! After these races I want to see my brother!
I had a supportive team during the race. They kept me up the front and worked for me keeping the breakaway close.
It was really hard for me to race the day after I found out my father died. It was a really hard day for me. Not physically but mentally. I told the management about it and they made a late change. I am really good friends with Leigh Ridenton and Giovanni Visconti. The pair weren't going to race but they put them in to support me. Visconti protected me all day long which I really appreciated. Ridenton was working hard all day until he got dropped.
Eventually I realised. If I'm here racing I better make dad proud. If I win or lose...this race is for him! So when Frank Schleck attacked with 26km to go. Visconti got on his wheel and I followed Visconti.
The team was amazing today. Visconti was working hard after the first attack and we got caught. So on the next hill Lastras decided that he should attack. I followed and so did the other favourites.
That's when I realised that I didn't need the team to help me attack. I have won 2 Grand Tours. This is my terrain. I attacked straight out of Lastras' wheel.
Lastras caught back up after the attacks and got straight on the front of the leading group of 8 favourites. He was amazing today.
1km to go. I was hurting so bad but I kept going for my dad!
I raced my arms into the air...this one was for my dad!

The Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal basically went the same. I had the same team here to support me and the same goal.
My first attack came in a reaction to the first favourite. Once again Visconti got on his wheel and I followed right behind. Spilak had a gap of 26 seconds with 8.6km to go. I was catching him with 1km to go but I was running out of energy. Spilak was too strong though and he took the win. I came in 2nd with Luis Leon Sanchez coming home in 3rd. (Pictures Below)

29th September 2014
Some people would say that this is the day the war ends. It is the day we find out who really is the best cyclist in the world and where they give 1 rider the right to wear the Rainbow Stripes for the whole year! This race is every cyclists dream to win. This year though, I have a great chance. I have just on the Vuelta and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec and came 2nd in the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal. This is my year. I can feel it!
This year we are in Ponferrada which is in Spain. To me the favourite is Alejandro Valverde. He is fantastic in the hills and is on home soil. I think I can win it too though. I am in great form and I have rode this circuit a lot when travelling to Spain with my wife but I have one thing that they don't have. I am being driven. My dad died a few weeks ago and that is driving me to win the biggest race of the year in his honour! Well let's get started.
A lot of attacks coming from the peloton. All the riders want to get into the breakaway. We send out Chaves.
The BOTD. Early on they have a gap of 4.33.
100km to go. The breakaway has 6.09. The peloton started chasing once the gap got to 10 minutes.
Visconti and I attacked trying to catch up to Valverde and Gilbert who just attacked.
With 13km to go it was a 4 horse race between Gilbert, Valverde, Visconti and me.
So it will either be out of Gilbert or Valverde. Valverde has Gilbert's wheel with 3km to go.
Well Gilbert wins it for the 3rd year in a row. He is a deserving World Champion.
Valverde takes 2nd and Visconti 3rd. I take a disappointing 4th place.
1 | Philippe Gilbert | BMC Racing Team | 6h47'44 | 2 | Alejandro Valverde | Bancolombia - Movistar Cycling Team | s.t. | 3 | Giovanni Visconti | Bancolombia - Movistar Cycling Team | + 31 | 4 | Nairo Quintana | Bancolombia - Movistar Cycling Team | + 1'13 | 5 | Jürgen Roelandts | Lotto Belisol | + 3'31 | 6 | Simon Spilak | BNP Paribas Fortis | s.t. | 7 | Michal Kwiatkowski | Omega Pharma-Quick-Step Cycling Team | s.t. | 8 | Bauke Mollema | Team Europcar | s.t. | 9 | Ivan Rovny | Ceramica Flaminia - Fondriest | + 4'29 | 10 | Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg | Team Argos-Shimano | + 4'49 |
I'm not happy with my race...I'm just not happy.

Nairo Quintana has ended his season early. He is not racing the Il Lombardia which was suppose to be his last race of the season. We will have to wait to see what he does next season...Let's hope he doesn't go missing completely like Sir Bradley Wiggins at the start of 2014.
Quintana was last seen getting of a plane in Colombia. He has gone home and we don't expect him back till next year. We will keep you updated!

25th October 2014
Hey Guys
So as you know...my brother has gone missing. I don't even know where he has gone. I thought I should do Nairo's job and run his blog for a little while. So let me introduce myself. I am Dayer Quintana. I am 2 years younger then Nairo but a lot of people say that I am better. I guess we will see. I have just signed to join Bancolombia – Movistar. He doesn't actually know that cause he has disappeared off the face of the Earth.
So a few things that I need to post today. Firstly the new signings and the riders that are leaving.
Looks like Alberto Contador is here to replace Alejandro Valverde. Oh and if you didn't know Valverde is retiring. At the age of 34 he decided that enough is enough. He has just come of his 2 most successful seasons and he decides to retire....not sure what's going through that dudes head but still. So the 4 time winner of the Tour de France has joined the team to replace him as co-leader with Nairo. Pretty good signing I have to say.
Marcos Burghardt has joined the team as the Cobbles Leader. Last year the team had an impossible goal of top 10 at Paris Roubaix. This year if we get that goal again we might actually be able to complete it. Nathan Haas, Rohan Dennis, George Bennett and Thomas Palmer are all here to help out throughout the year. Oh and me too. I am a young rider this season. Although I heard Nairo talking on the phone one time about grooming 3 riders to take over the team in a few years. Obviously Nairo will be one of them cause he is only 24. I bet Rohan Dennis is another cause he is a pretty great rider. I don't know who the other is though...Probably Leigh Ridenton. He is a pretty great sprinter.
A few big names have also left the team too though. Rui Costa has signed as a leader at Cofidis and taken Pablo Lastras with him. Francisco Ventoso is a sprint leader/helper at United Health Care. Robert Arlon did something pretty bad cause the team released him just before the Vuelta. I don't think he signed a new contract either.
Sergio Henao – BNP Paribas Fortis –> Astana Pro Team
Giacomo Nizzolo – Radioshack Leopard –> BMC Racing Team
Chris Froome – BNP Paribas Fortis –> Blanco Pro Cycling
Marcel Kittel – Team Netapp-Endura –> Blanco Pro Cycling
Philippe Gilbert – BMC Racing Team –> Omega Pharma – Quickstep Cycling Team
Andy Schleck – Radioshack Leopard –> Team Saxo-Tinkoff
Daniel Martin – Garmin-Sharp –> Team Saxo-Tinkoff
Alright that's enough. Tony Martin transferred but he isn't that good right???
Now team's that have been promoted and demoted.
Orica-GreenEdge and Lampre-Merida (Saeco)
Pro Continental Promotions
Argos-Shimano and Accent.jobs Wanty
So some big teams got demoted. Orica-GreenEdge and Lampre-Merida. Wow. Argos-Shimano manages to find their way back into the Pro Tour without any sort of GC Rider and signs John Degonkolb again. Accent.jobs Wanty are another team that doesn't know what GC means. They managed to find their way into the Pro Tour with Ramon Sinkeldam and Pim Ligthart. So sprinters...okay then.
I think that's it from me. I'll let you know when I find my brother. If I don't then I will just pretend to be him and win the Tour de France this year
Seeya later guys
Dayer Quintana OUT!! |
