muttisr - You're very right he'll bounce back stronger! Wow, Norway is not really bicycle friendly. I think France, Belgium... are way better. I'd wear a camera in Norway, too, hearing how it goes...
Dippofix - Now that's more likely
Not sure if I'll update today. Might squeeze in one but can't be sure.
I always thought I'd meet somebody, fall in love and that'd be it. That simple. But no, it isn't that simple at all.
June 2014:
"I love her, and I want to marry her."
"How can you say that?"
I really didn't understand what the problem was.
You see, Becca had taken care of me when I was still very weak from the crash...
Hi there, finally I returned to the cycling scene. It felt so wonderful, like I was a neopro in my first race all over. Except that my legs felt so much stronger since two years ago!
Vuelta a Burgos
This was the stage I was looking forward to the most, the final stage!
The Race
The first four stages, I was testing my legs. I had been out of the game for months now, so it felt a bit strange, but wonderful.
Though I really miss my jersey. I will fight to get it back next chance I get, that's for sure!
After having won Paris - Nice, the peloton respects me a lot, which is amazing. I had many guys riding next to me, asking me how I am. Instead of telling them, I showed them on the final mountain of the final stage!
It was a battle between Nibali, Majka and myself.
It felt so good being back, I may have overplayed my hand and went once too many times in the attack. Nibali takes the win on the line, I couldn't be closer!
But it's no problem. I like him, he's a good rider. The main thing is that my legs are back!

Six days left until the Vuelta
In a strange way, maybe my accident opened up a chance, too. I don't know what I could've done at the Tour. But I do know I'm real glad to return to the Vuelta, and here I have a realistic chance of riding top 10. Maybe I could've done that at the Tour, but I could've easily been lost in the pack.
I will make something of this Vuelta. Me and Roche, we're both going for the top 10 here!
Nice to see Henry back, it looks like he is close to his best. Henry will probably ride strong in the Vuelta, his freshness is great and he seems very focused
Hmmm, I can only see that Beca thing going two ways.
1- Henry explains to Michelle that now he loves Beca and is more grateful (hence staying while I'll)
2- Henry forsakes his friendship with Beca despite her loyalty because he is getting back together with Michelle.
True, I had only known Sofia for a few months now. And, yes, she did come from Italy. But for me, no such thing could stand in the way. We were in love, and that's all that mattered.
But Becca didn't think so. She got mad, but really, really mad. I've never seen her quite so dramatic, usually she is so upbeat and carefree. After I told her I'd propose to Sofia, we got into a fight.
The next morning, Becca had gone...
Hey,
Ah, it feels so great being back here at the Vuelta. Feels like coming home, even!
Vuelta a España - Stage 1
Okay. This is not that bad. The other time trials here (there are two others) are way flatter. At this time trial, I actually have a fighting chance. It's short and there's a killer climb at the start.
I came here with ambitions, so damn it, I will not be satisfied with crumbs anymore!
Look Out For...
I may be ambitious, here, but I'm no fool. The start list is a bit stronger than I hoped for. Still I hope for a top 10, maybe even top 5.
So who's here?
Main Sprinters: Cavendish, Sagan, Boasson Hagen, Boeckmans, Degenkolb. Main GC contenders: Nibali, Valverde, Betancur, Rodriguez, Hesjedal, Vanendert, Nieve. Citigroup: Except for our African superclimber, we brought our strongest climbing squad here. That may very well be to our advantage here! We have guys like Roche, Manresa, Poels and Herklotz.
The Race
I'm finally back after all these hard months. In a way, it's even an advantage. I'm quite fresh for this time of the year. The first kilometers of this Vuelta are uphill and I take them standing up!
Going downhill, taking risks, I had to not think of the accident, I couldn't do that!
And I didn't. Luckily the accident hadn't left me with a fear of downhilling.
I finished as the 2nd provisional time, I couldn't believe it.

Talking about supertalent, our African talent, who's 22 like me, won the Volta a Portugal, what a beast! He squashed everyone at the mountain stages!
After taking the young jersey at the Tour with a 23th place, he seems to be growing stronger and stronger.
Citigroup - Van Impe's Dream
I've said it before, and I'll keep on saying it. Citigroup is turning into an impressive team. Van Impe is taking over the team entirely, too. He is now our Directeur Sportif, a main coach and even handles a big side of the business. And that reflects in our team itself. We're becoming a team of climbers, mostly.
Here is another one of his evaluations for (possible) team leaders in Grand Tours for the coming seasons:
He rates me as the best climber, what an honor! With a team like this, I think we can reach great heights! Van Impe also announced the signing of Dominik Nerz for the next season, another one with a nose for climbing. Or rather, legs.
But now let us concentrate on the Vuelta!
Henry
Edited by Ian Butler on 07-01-2014 13:04
What a great perfect start. Wout, Henry and Nicolas will bring fear into the hearts of the other riders.
Awesome results in Belgium and Portugal along the way by the team, and wait a second, Carpenter finished 5th at the Giro with MT 76?! Wow.
Edited by Shonak on 07-01-2014 13:21
"It’s a little bit scary when Contador attacks." - Tommy V
sutty68 - Spain is certainly looking bright to us Meintjes with an impressive race indeed
Shonak - Let's hope our trio can color the Vuelta red Yeah, Carpenter was a real surprise in the Giro Though he was 15 minutes behind the winner, but still 5th
welker3257 - Yeah. And Henry will be leading this team in the near future, I suspect
Thanks to everyone who nominated this story and myself for the Yearly Awards! It's always amazing to see your work appreciated!
I'll even hang a challenge on the awards: if A Day in the Life wins, the story will continue for at least another whole year and make it all the way to the 2014 awards! (bar technical crashes)
The house seemed emtpy without Becca. Her leaving really hurt me. We had bonded so much we've never been closer as we are now. Or at least that's what I thought.
As things stood now, it seemed like I had to make a choice.
Do I choose Sofia, get married, start a family? But then I'll lose Becca.
Do I choose friendship. I'll never connect with anyone like I connect with Becca. But if she's such a friend, why object to me being happy with Sofia?
Women... I jumped on my bike and went training, this was all so much easier for me.
Hi again,
Ready for more Vuelta action? We had 3 jerseys to show today!
Vuelta a España - Stage 2
Short, hilly, explosive. I was born for days like this. For most this is their 70th race day in the season, I'm not even up to 30. My fresh legs are my not-so-secret weapon in this Vuelta!
Poels went for the GC in the Tour and will not battle for that now, going mainly for stage wins and helping me and Roche out. So he won't be defending his jersey too much, if he wants to make the 3rd week. Roche, like myself, is going for the GC. However, the heat is almost unbearable and he looks like he isn't coping too well at the moment. Let's just hope the temperatures drop a bit over the next few days.
The Race
The race got interesting when Rodriguez attacked, quite early. There were still 20 kilometers left!
Some followed him, but the peloton wasn't far off. I was looking around constantly, looking for Roche, he was nowhere near the front... Nibali attacked next. We had to react soon or they'd be gone.
When I felt too many favorites had gone, and I still didn't see Roche, I decided to go for it. I made the jump!
In one major effort of about 30 seconds, I sprinted over the top of the hill and joined the front of the race. The peloton was not far off, but now that we were here, everyone worked hard to keep the break going.
I had Red Jersey Poels in the peloton, so I didn't have to do my share. Some say that's unfair. I say it's logical.
Only for the sprint I came to the front. We would stay in front of the peloton, this was a golden opportunity to test my fresh legs against others!
I felt good and I was flying! Nobody was able to pass me. Still a little while to go, my heart was pounding so hard I thought it'd fly out of my chest!
I crossed the line first! Oh man, what a thriller. I can't believe I just did that. My first victory since the injury, and I didn't have to wait long for it to happen!
The rest of the team arrived only seconds later. I thanked everyone and we shared a happy group hug. After my nearly fatal crash, this was one of the happiest moments in my life.

I'd be lying if I said didn't give me one hell of a kick. Let everyone be warned: I'M BACK!
Analysis & Daily Thought
I don't know what is greater; the victory of the day or the Red Jersey. I feel I must defend it with my life, however, that will demand a lot of energy I might miss in the final week... It seems my fresh legs won't be spared in this Vuelta.
Three flat stages ahead of us, so I should hang on to this jersey for the time being.
The team atmosphere here is amazing, two wins in a row. We're floating.
See you tomorrow, in the leader's jersey in the Vuelta!
Henry
Too many women in Ian's life - only complicate everything for him.
Amazing victory for our young french. And now red jersey. I am sure Wout isn't mad at him. Hang on to that jersey, no matter what.
I wonder how PCMDaily Stats Discussion would have been at the time of Henry's crash - yeah, supertalent, but he will never come back... etc. Hm.
I'll even hang a challenge on the awards: if A Day in the Life wins, the story will continue for at least another whole year and make it all the way to the 2014 awards! (bar technical crashes)
Much deserved mate. I have a feeling though that this story won't be going anywhere anytime soon, whether A Day in the Life wins or not.
