Stage 62: La Faisanera Gofl – Bola del Mundo
Real life: Menchov took the stage ahead of Porte and De Weert.
Sylvain Chavanel has been surprisingly calm in this race, but today he is off as the first one.
Chavanel is first over the first summit followed by Ulissi, Verdugo, De Greef and Kern. They have two minute to the peloton.

On the second summit they have 5 minutes to the peloton where Saxo – Tinkoff is forced to do the work.

On the third climb the break was joined by Fränk Schleck, Pozzovivo and a few others.

On the penultimate summit we have 9 riders in front with 4’30’’ to the peloton and Pinot in between.
With 13 km to go it’s time to really get started on the last mountain of the race.

The 9 in front has less than a minute to Pinot and only another 1’30’’ to the peloton.

It’s hard to say if it’s tactics or mutiny, but Henao attacks followed by Purito right at the bottom of the climb.
Nibali and Contador decides to have one last duel in spite of the GC already settled.

Meanwhile Pozzovivo tries to make the break last just 7 km longer.
Contador proves that it isn’t a complete coincidence that he is wearing red.
But the shark shows its teeth once again bridging the gap easily.

1,5 km left of the final mountain and it’s a duel between the GC/Mountain jersey and the Points Jersey.

In the end we are shown exactly why the GC looks like it does…
Kittel, Gretsch, Petacchi and Ventoso missed the time limit.
Separate Vuelta Classifications as well as a Prix de la Combativité and a few short post-race summary statistics will follow within the few days to finish off the story.

Impressive win for Contador there, he definitely has the GC now.

Stage 63: Cercedilla – Madrid
Real life: Degenkolb took the stage ahead of Viviani and Bennati.

Anything but a bunch sprint today will be a huge surprise. Nevertheless we see Peterson showing himself one last time right from the start.
Degenkolb won’t get much support today as half the team ( Peterson and De Kort) is in the break with 80 km to go. With them Luis León Sánchez, Roy, Arashiro and Castroviejo. They have about two minutes to the peloton.
Cancellara wants to build on his stats as the most stage-winning rider here and attacks from a united peloton with 55 km to go.

He gets company from Westra and Ignatiev and surprisingly with 22 km to go they still has a gap of two minutes.
Omega Pharma - Lotto is resurrected in the chase of a bunch sprint.

With 10 km to go and a gap of 44 seconds it’s time for the cars to get away.
It looks doomed but with Westra and Cancellara out here nothing is certain!
But there’s no fight left in them and they just forfeit and leave it to the sprinters.

A weird sprint today as no real train forms and with 1,7 km to go no one has started sprinting yet.

But then comes Peraud (!) opening the sprint right before the final km.
Cavendish tries to counter, but is helpless without his leadout it seems. Guess the 4 % incline doesn’t help either…

300 m to go it’s Boasson Hagen, Peraud, Cavendish, Goss, Rojas, Contador, Impey…

The Norwegian champion wins a very strange bunch sprint.
Separate Vuelta Classifications as well as a Prix de la Combativité and a few short post-race summary statistics will follow within the few days to finish off the story.

It's over
Looking forward to the those statistics, though!
I can't believe the gap Contador managed. Nibali cracked completely when he lost his leader's place. Also,

sutty: Yeah, accidentally pushed Edit instead of Quote when adding the last stage.
Jesleyh: Guess the DB-makers were a bit too optimistic...
Ian: The good thing about a long run like this is that it's possible to evaluate and analyze a lot afterwards.
mpardo: Thanks, happy you like(d) it

A few 's for you, for completing this amazing story.
Too bad Nibali cracked so hard so early on, which removed a bit of the excitement for the GC. The only other interesting classification was the points one. |

Selwink: Thanks. I'm glad I made it too. Honestly I had hoped Nibali would hold on, but then again halfway through the Tour I feared that all excitement had disappeared for good. In many ways it was good to see the Podium on the final mountain stage have the same order as the GC podium.
SSJ2Luigi: I'm pretty sure he's one of the guys that in fact haven't ridden the full 63 stages...
mvhoogedalem: Thanks. After all it was only a couple of stages ruined by the crash. And pretty fortunate that Nibali over 63 stages was the only GC rider to go down in a crash!

Seperate Vuelta Rankings
Spoiler These rankings have been calculated only based on riders inside the top 20 after any of the three GT's (top 5 for young riders). Times are relative to the leaders jersey no matter who is wearing it. Negative times mean time gained.
General Classification
I doubt many will be surprised to see that Contador was the fastest rider in the Vuelta, but perhaps it's a bit surprising to see Purito on the podium.
| 1 | Alberto Contador | Team Saxo - Tinkoff | - 1'41 | | 2 | Joaquím Rodríguez | Katusha Team | + 2'39 | | 3 | Chris Froome | Sky Froome | + 5'50 |

The first two rounds we saw Marcovdw with two perfect rounds giving him a major lead going out of the Giro.
The next round became a tie between all participants and for the following three rounds at least two riders came on a shared 1st - every time Marcovdw was one of them...'
But then in the final round we had a first: Jesleyh won the round with 9 pts, SSJ2Luigi came 2nd with 7 pts (1 pt for being the closest one to the correct answer in question 4) and Marcovdw "only" managed 3rd place.
That doesn't stop Marcovdw from taking a superior win over all though with a total of 41 pts against SSJ2Luigi and Jesleyh's 29 pts on the shared 2nd place.
