Finaly got a chance to watch it. An absolutely epic ride by Boonen.
I feel that Ladagnous was absolutely gutted. A top 5 would have been career defining for him.

Oh and I also have to say - Sky are an absolute bunch of morons? Why did they work one-by-one instead of together? That may well have dragged Boonen back.

Totally agree with you matey, they spent too much energy chasing for nothing whilst the others just sat on and waited for their opportunity |

It didn't matter. They didn't have holes in their helmets, that's what really matter in today's cycling, tactics are for losers.

This problem can easily be solved, by simply masking the attributes of the riders in the other teams. And since whe've now got rider reputation in the game, the favorites are then calculated based on rider type and their reputation. This also stops the problem with young riders who have improved much, but never shown it in a race, from being marked in the races.

Their tactic must have been "let's ask XXX (weakest of our riders) to catch Boonen. If he can't, just sack him (drop him from the group), and ask somebody more competent to catch Boonen".
Except for team sprint and sprint rockets at the end of road races, I've never seen such a tactic working in cycling... |

I can't believe they gave Turgot second and Ballan third. That was a dead heat for sure. |

Well, it's rather close but Turgot has it.

How can you possibly see that with a human eye? I still don't see anything in terms of difference.

See how one of the wheels has crossed the red line, and the other hasn't. That could be a hint

You people are blind if you can't see how Turgot was 2nd. I called it inmediately after they crossed the finish line.

I just finished watching the race.
Unbelievable by Boonen. It's incredible how much stronger he was than every other rider in the race.
Some great underdog rides in there too, especially Turgot. I felt so bad for Ladagnous though. |

So having had a few busy days, here's a little late PR reply: meh
It was exciting ... until Boonen went with 50 km to go. I didn't ask for a time trial. That being said, it was an impressive effort by Boonen. Not really sure how he managed to stay away from four or five Sky riders + various other good riders from other teams...
I'm glad Pozzato sucked again. You can't win big races if you ride as defensively as he does.
So with that in mind, yesterday's highlight was Mads Würtz winning the junior race. Expect crazy stats for that guy whenever Alakagom looks away |

You didn't find P-R exciting? It wasn't like Cancellara's win in 2010 when he got a 3 minutes advantage in a glimpse of an eye, there was an open race until Boom's attack was neutralized and the chase group started racing for 2nd.
I found it amazingly good, can't think on a better classic in the last years, not off the top of my head at least. Not even De Ronde last year or Lombardia 2010, which were epic.

Well, I watched it while being at work, so that had something to do with it, obviously.
Boonen's gap was stable for the most part. Yes, it went down a little bit when Boom attacked, but at that point it was too late to catch Boonen anyway. Before Boom's attack, Sky chased, but the gap didn't change.
Plenty of drama behind Boonen - that was somewhat enjoyable, especially with the Frenchies. |

and Boonen told after race.that he was holding himself back when he had 30 sec. gap. he was ready to get caught.
Smart riding. |
