Hey diendblad
I've been following this story since the beginning of this season, and must say, that it's hilarious work from you. I'dnever have enough motivation to keep a story up for so long.
The thing, that finally made me commenting was Tony Martin's nick name, "Der Panzerwagen". I didn't know about, although I'm German. But I must say, that it is pretty fitting
To all the non-german-speaking readers, it means "tank".
Still, keep the great work up.
You deserve this

Stage 8
The penultimate stage of this years Tour de Suisse is a hilly one, again. The 176 kilometres between Wetzikon and Liestal contain a lot of hills. But in contrary to earlier stages, these hills are fairly short and not that steep.
22km to go
11 riders are present in the BOTD, and as the peloton (read: Team Sky) isn't willing in chasing them, they can fight for the win today. More about that later.
We focus on the peloton and the GC-favourites. Logical as this game is, the GC-leader attacks pretty far from the finish. With 22km to go, Andy Schleck attacks, and he gets joined by the numbers 3 and 5 of the GC, Nicholas Roche and Alberto Contador. As we believe that it is too far from the finish, and we have some domestiques left to catch the 3, Robert Gesink doesn't counter and lets his team mates do the work.
5km to go
It takes some time, but with 5km to go, the 3 are caught, mostly thanks to Thomas Dekker. With a short speedbump before the finish, Gesink attacks himself, but gets caught by... well, the entire group. So no GC-changes!
Finish
Back to the BOTD. A few members try to attack in the final part of the stage (Matthew Lloyd, Michal Albasini, Johan Tschopp), and the reason is obvious: Matthew Goss is present in the BOTD. Goss has the advantage of having a team mate in this BOTD, our former team member Romain Zingle. Zingle brings back every attacker, and even forms a great lead out, so Goss can easily take the win in Liestal, beating John Darwin Atapuma and Maarten Wynants.

The team worked great for Gesink today. No it's up to the final ITT.

Stage 9
The final stage of the Tour de Suisse 2014! 26.4 kilometres of time trialling, with the first 10 ascending at an average gradient of 4.7% (including some small drops). The question is: can Andy Schleck keep his 1'05 lead against Gesink, or does the danger come from someone else?
The best time so far is set by Saxo Banks Lars Boom in 36'33. But then the current world champ hits the road. And Fabian Cancellara wants this win for his home crowd. He crushes the time set by Boom by 1'31 and the new time to beat is 35'02.
Bradley Wiggins was considered as a GC-favourite before the start of the Tour de Suisse, but apparantly, he's only present here to built his form to peak in Le Tour. Anyway, he rides a great ITT, and is only '29 slower than Cancellara. 2nd time so far.
After his crash in stage 5, Thomas Dekker seems to have recovered completely. He sets the 3rd time so far, '56 behind Cancellara and will improve his GC-ranking to 14th.
But there is 1 rider that loves to spoil Cancellara's plan: Tony Martin. At the first checkpoint, the German TT-champ is '7 faster, and on the descend back to Liestal, he even enhances that margin to '23. Der Panzerwagen beats Spartacus (hey, a tank is better than a gladiator) and Martin will probably win this ITT in the time of 34'39.
Times at the 1st split time:
1. Martin 15'32; 2. Cancellara +7; 3. Contador +17; 4. Wiggins +20; 5. Kreuziger +25; 8. Dekker +34; 13. Schleck +48; 17. Gesink +51.
Alberto Contador needs to gain 1'39 to Andy Schleck to beat him in the GC. It's a difficult task, but after 1/3 of the route, he already has gained '31. He continues riding in a high pace and sets the 3rd time, '48 behind Martin.
To beat Contador in the GC, Robert Gesink may not loose more than '34. But at the 1st split time, that is the exact gap between the 2. And Contador rides faster in the last part, so Gesink won't win the Tour de Suisse. He sets the 9th time so far, 1'31 behind Martin (and '43 behind Contador).
The last rider to finish is Andy Schleck. The Luxembourg now knows that Contador is his main rival, and he needs to finish before the clock hits 37'06. He manages to do so: 21st time in 36'54. Thus Andy Schleck wins the Tour de Suisse 2014!

Overall Winner
Word from the DS
No stage wins, but still a 3rd place in the GC for Gesink. We're happy with this! And Gesink can take the "underdog"-position in the Tour, as Schleck and Contador will be the 2 main favourites!

@ all: Thanks. Gesink did great to my opinion. ANd I usually do pretty bad in ITT's, so gaining 45sec in 26km to Schleck is pretty good for me

Coming soon: injury news about a Tour de France-favourite!!!!!!!!
But first, the National championships. As always, simulated.
Country | TT | RR | Germany | T. Martin | J. Voigt | Belgium | M. Monfort | T. Boonen | Netherlands | T. Dekker | J. Bol | Canada | R. Hesjedal | R. Hesjedal | Great-Britain | B. Wiggins | M. Cavendish | Russia | V. Karpets | Y. Trofimov | France | A. Roux | S. Chavanel | Norway | E. B. Hagen | T. Hushovd | Italy | G. Visconti | G. Visconti | Spain | A. Contador | J.J. Rojas | Switzerland | F. Cancellara | F. Cancellara | USA | T. van Garderen | T. Farrar |
Germany: Kittel finished 2nd in the ITT and 3rd in the RR. Voigt won that RR, beating Gerdemann in the sprint of 2, with Kittel winning the peloton sprint (beating Greipel, Degenkolb and Ciolek) at '51.
Belgium: De Greef finished 2nd in the RR. The RR was a cobbles-race, and with our cobbled-specialists having fitnesses below 70, we sucked.
Netherlands: Terpstra finished in 3rd in the RR, got beaten in the sprint of 3 by Jetse Bol and Langeveld. The route had a short cobbled section (for those out of the Netherlands, it was the route in Ootmarsum), so all the hilly riders had no chance.
