you may be right, but for the last 2 seasons he has been the leading English goalscorer, and with Charlton
That is also why i feel it is unbelievable that he hasn't been given a chance with England, as our probalem is a lack of goals, and yet we ignore the leading English goalscorer
and he does have some tactical sense as his off the ball movement is great, that is how he gets the majority of his goals, in behind the defence

quite honestly, who's been his competition for that title?
plus, he's played as lone forward in a Charlton team that based it's style on Bent's strengths: long ball behind the defence. Go on Darren...run onto it...

what england needs is not a player who scores goals, but a player who gets the team to score. same reason why Defoe doesn't play much for Tottenham. these players have little awareness of what is happening around them, and the team suffers as a result.
Rooney isn't so great because of his shot, his stregth or his technique. he's great because he works well with his teammates.

not really, he runs the offside line well, and that is a strength, but it's not something that is good for the team. it's good for his own tally. but just let the defense sit deeper and he's neutralised easily.
he never makes a movement that benefits his teammates, always himself. he runs in a given direction and uses his athleticism to shake the defender.
But he doesn't have the inteligence to realise when he should drop back, when he should block and cut in, when he should move into the channels, when he should switch position with a teammate, etc etc etc
that's why I say he lacks awareness.
it's funny that Ipswich "produced" two strikers at the same time that complement each other and while the athletic one (Bent) has gone on to bigger heights, the one that plays with intelligence (Bowditch) hasn't

oh ok, i see your point now about the tactical awareness and sort of with the England needing creators
but i think it is obvious that the leading English goalscorer should be in the England team, as he scores more goals than Rooney, Owen, Defoe, Crouch, Smith, Johnson, etc.
like the Spanish put their leading goalscorer in the team Villa, for me Owen is just in the team due to his past goalscoring, since he moved from Liverpool he must have scored what like 2 goals for England, and probably around 10 for club, so from that i don't think he merits a place in the England team, until he starts scoring, and there is Bent who is scoring loads, but isn't in the team
that is what i don't understand, but obviously there will be things going on that i am not aware of i suppose

but I do agree that he should be in the team. just not starting.
as for Owen, damn right, he is living off of reputation.
however, you can't possibly compare any of them to Villa
Villa is in a class of his own, far above Bent, Johnson, Owen, etc. England wish they could have a striker such as Villa. in fact, pretty much every national team wishes that.

that the top [insert nationality] scorer should be there just because he's the top scorer? I disagree.
Pauleta is the top portuguese scorer in europe. would I want him in the team? no. he doesn't work well in our model of play. |

Absolutely right. I became pissed off with Scolari when he just putted Nuno Gomes at min 80 against France in WC half-final.

yes but England aren't scoring enough goals, so maybe time to try something new, and maybe actually putting the leading English scorer in would help with the goals

Exactly - he's living off that Argentina goal, when he was still quick

have you seen the call-up for the Armenia game?
I feel like running and hiding. Caneira, Gomes and Postiga are there
Ricardo is still there...I wonder if he'll still get called up once he stops playing at Betis?
three right full backs called up (sure one of them will play left, but still)
on the plus side:
Nani is back in the under-21s (finally a good decision)
Veloso has been called up

he played far too many games when he was young. thus he faded by the time he was 26. same story with Del Piero, Raúl and everyone else that plays so many games at such an early age |

Well you have to say to his defence that Owen was injured a long time...

look at his career. he has never played a single season in which he didn't have an injury rule him out for at least 3 months. |

I just like Nuno Gomes for one reason: the skill he have for doing one-twos. But he missed goald from half a meter from the goal.
I guess that Nani would deserve more the call for A squad than Quaresma, based in the last games...
And Veloso is a great new.

bad luck is when he falls of the stairs or when he gets a leg injury when getting out of bed (leroy Lita...lol!)
However sometimes Owen gets injuries even when he's not hit hard and thats called being Injury Prone, some guys just keep getting injured no matter what
Dwight K. Schrute: 'I'm not a hero. Im just a mere defender of the office. You know who is a hero? Hiro from Heroes. That's a hero. And Bono'.

Daniel Alves has been left out of the side for the next game...this might mean he's moving
also, Middlesbrough have agreed a fee for Tottenham striker Mido. something tells me they won't do too well this season... |

Lennon has picked up a slight knock, so Addy gets his wish. Bent starts
Spurs with three(!!) strikers starting as a consequence.
I wonder if Addy sabotaged his boots os something?

I did, i ran from my house just in time to remove 1 of his studs, so he was lopsided and couldn't fail to get injured
