Alberto Contador is ready for tomorrows stage to the feared El Angliru. The Spaniard tips Sastre and Anton as his main rivals. But also said to not discount Robert Gesink 'The Dutchman can be the big suprise of the day' said Contador during the rest day press conference. 'Mosquera is also a dangerous man and also my teammate Leipheimer can come far.'
The gruesome Angliru does however not strike fear into Contadors heart. He said he will start with 36x28 as gear.
At the Anglirú in 1999 was the first time that pretty much every rider used a triple chainring...

Valverde's gonna use a 36x29. So when you see him blow up at the start of the second half of the climb, you know why.

Maybe, but I'd hope he's been up already a few times pushing that gear.
Then again, if the Berties and Gesinks of this world are going with the small rings, perhaps Don Alejandro thinks a bit too much of himself...
Can't see past Bertie today.
When he's training going up by himself he's not going to have anyone to suddenly accelerate when he's already suffering. He'll just keep going at the same pace.
When someone stretches the cord today he's gonna find out exactly why Menchov blows up so many times despite being an elite climber: No Matter how good your acceleration is, if you're pushing a huge gear, two or three accelerations will kill you.
EDIT: who the hell is bertie? Edited by issoisso on 13-09-2008 13:23
