Another early move made by Alaphilippe and just like in Amstel, Lambrecht is the first to follow him. Power and Eiking joined the move as well, with only the last 2 climbs left to ride
Some interesting games in the front group before the Mur de Huy. Lambrecht and Power will start the climb with a small gap in front of Alaphilippe and Eiking, but the more important news is that the gap to the pack is big enough to actually have them dream about the win
The wall is a hat too big for Power and he cracks just as Lambrecht attacks. Alaphilippe was not far behind at the foot of the climb, but he does not look strong enough to bridge the gap to the Belgian
And Lambrecht comes up with the perfect climb up the Mur de Huy to claim a fantastic win. Not only did the chasers to catch him, but his gap to them constantly grew
Power was caught by the chasers and lost even the podium in front of Alaphilippe and David Gaudu, who was by far the fastest rider behind as he broke away from the pack to snatch second place from the World Champion

Formolo tried an early move on Cote de la Redoute, with more than 35 kilometres left from the race, but nothing would come out of it with a very strong Deceuninck leading the chase
No successful attacks were made on either Roche-aux-Faucons or Saint-Nicolas. With a small cobbled section before the final punch, Van Aert knew this was an once in a life time opportunity for him to get his hands on La Doyenne.
He made his move there and he was joined by another 3 riders: Valgren, Schachmann and Formolo, who seemed to be covering every move today. They started the final climb with a small gap over the favorites group, but big enough to have to allow them to go for the win
Valgren led most of the final kilometre and was still leading as the final corner arrived. The Dane was definitely the strongest rider in the group, but Van Aert was right behind him and still had one acceleration left in him
But Valgren was able to hold Van Aert off to take a surprising win, while Van Aert has yet another disappointing second place to his name this season. Finishing second in three monuments this year can't be a great feeling. He'd definitely give away all of them for a win

The Ardennes looked a little tougher for the team, but still solid results, and nice to see Lambrecht win

Missing the big win but still solid results. Lambrecht turned out to be a real puncheur beast with those stats, thought paid the effort in Liege. |

Can't really be upset with the outcome of the Ardennes classics though given the hills are the weakest area in the team.

Time to get back into story reading after a break with a lot of MG.
Haven't read back yet, guess i'll start with this season, by the way is it your 2nd or 3rd season in this story?

Third season. I'm in 2021. It's PCM18 but I'm playing with the 2019 Daily database so 2019 was the first season.
Season 3 starts on page 20. Season 2 on page 10.

Dumoulin won the the previous two editions, but with the change to Deceuninck, it looks like the race is not on his priority list anymore, which means that we will finally someone else with Tour de Romandie.
Despite not being just as dominant as last year, Kwiatkowski still managed two stage wins and entered the final time - trial with quite a comfortable lead. But the rankings with be overthrown in the last stage, with a time - trial full of up and downs. Sam Oomen, who started the day in third, behind Kiwatkowski and Vervaeke would go on and win the race, with Kwiatkowski having major deja-vus from last year, where he also dominated the race, but finished second.
Kwiatek wins stage four ahead of Vervaeke

Good start (began at top of pace 20) with Jacob 2nd in worlds
Interesting transfers with Primoz Roglic out , let’s hope Wilco do not crash too much
Quite good Down Under ( Alaphilippe will be annoying at those hills all season I guess)
Very good early wins topped by Sivakov’s UAE Tour
Wow nice series with De Plus in Tirreno and Van Poppel at Milano – Sanremo, but Teunissen - Van Aert at Ronde van Vlaanderen my God almost too much. (considering changing level ?)

I'm considering it, but only at the end of the season. I want to see how the Grand Tours play out too first.

Tom Dumoulin is back to win what would be a historical third Giro d'Italia in a row. And what better way to make sure you are the main favorite than having the rider who finished second behind you in the last two editions as your main domestique.
Simon Yates is the latest Grand Tour winner and seems to be Dumoulin's main rival. But can he repeat the stellar ride from the 2019 Vuelta? His brother, Adam leads a very strong Ineos squad and surely has his eyes set on the pink jersey, while this might be one of the last Grand Tours where Froome rides with a realistic chance at the podium.
Danny Van Poppel will be looking to make the most of the sprints here, but with Ackermann, Ewan and Gaviria all being here as well, it will be anything but easy. With the GC riders winning the points classification in the last two editions, it will interesting to see if the sprinters can strike back this year.
After riding the last two seasons in the Tour as a leader, Kruijswijk will switch this year for Il Giro. It's clear that he won't top the third place from 2019 in the Tour so switching for another Grand Tour might not be a bad idea. The plan is for him to still ride the Tour, but only in support for De Plus. George Bennett has his eyes on the blue jersey after winning the polka dots jersey at the Tour last year.

[img-l]https://i.imgur.com/wbBgJno.png[/img-l] | Giro d'Italia: Stage 1 | [img-r]https://i.imgur.com/wbBgJno.png[/img-r] |
We kick off this year's Giro d'Italia in Croatia and for the first time in a while the race does not start with a time - trial.
Only two riders were in the breakaway today, with Ravanelli being the strongest climber of them and thus becoming the first wearer of the blue jersey this year. With just two riders in the breakaway, Bennett also managed to grab a couple of points
The last kick before the finish was not as hard as the Jumbo riders were hoping and this resulted in 3 very evenly matched trains with Deceuninck and Lotto just as strong as the black and yellow one
Cees Bol managed to take advantage of the other trains' work and he was leading in the final corner, but it was very tight with Ackermann, Ewan, Bennett and Van Poppel not far behind
It all came down to the acceleration in the very last few metres and the one who came on top was Van Poppel! The Dutch Champion barely bet Bol and Ewan to the line to become the first leader of this year's Giro d'Italia!
A big crash in the final kilometres saw quite a few of the GC riders losing time from the very first stage. Roglic, Landa and Bernal lost 2 minutes, while Froome, Soler and Quintana are already 5 minutes behind!

It was a very hectic second day of racing in Croatia, with a very strong lateral wind producing many splits and regroups in the pack today.
The last uphill section of the day destroyed what was left of the riders energy after a day in which they constantly had to ride at a high intensity. No sprints trains were formed, but Max Schachmann was pulling like crazy at the front of the pack to put Bol in a perfect position for the downhill sprint
Bol did very well in the sprint, but he would come up short for a second time in a row, with Ewan flying inside the last kilometre to take the win and become the new pink jersey wearer as Van Poppel missed out on the podium today
The wind produced some very important victims among the GC men today. Landa, Quintana, Froome, Soler lost additional time and with the big loses from yesterday their GC race is basically over.

Thanks. The win gave me MSR vibes with Van Poppel slightly behind just to make up the ground in the final metres.

With everyone in the team except Adam Yates losing time in the previous stages, Ineos was one of the first starters today and set the first important reference time. Bernal and Quintana already out of the GC is great news for Yates, who will now have both Colombians devoted to him
Jumbo did exceptionally well and were miles ahead of everyone else at the intermediate checkpoint at the top of the climb. Despite losing some time in the second part, they still beat Ineos' time with little over one minute
Despite having Dumoulin, Roglic and Jungels in their line-up, Deceuninck really struggled today, barely making the top 10 in a stage where they should have been the big favorites. Another big surprise came from EF, the only team to be within one minute of Jumbo

Only fourth day of racing in Giro d'Italia and we already have the first top mountain finish. The pack rode an insane pace on the first climb which resulted in most of the breakaway being caught, which allowed Bennett to get some important points for the KoM rankings.
On the final climb, Sam Oomen made the first move. He was joined by Pinot, Roglic and Ciccone. Despite having what are considered second tier favorites, the move looked very solid
When the pack started reeling it back in, Pinot accelerated and dropped the others, who would soon be caught by the favorites group
Pinot rode by himself until the last kilometer, when he was joined by Oomen and Adam Yates. But neither still had enough energy left to challenge Pinot for the win. Oomen must have nerves of steel though - being caught, only to attack again from the favorites group.
Kruijswijk rode the final climb at his own pace to finish on a very good fifth place on the day, but missing out on inheriting the pink jersey from Van Poppel, who instead went to Yates, the strongest of the big favorites today.
Yesterday's fiasco for Deceuninck was the first bad sign for Dumoulin, but today was even worse and the Dutchman is already more than three minutes behind Yates. The dream of a third consecutive win seems to be over only after 4 stages

Bennett took advantage of the climbs being place in the first half of the race and joined the breakaway to claim some very important KoM points, before dropping back to the pack. As a result Bennett will take over the blue jersey from Pinot at the end of the day
With a very flat second part of the stage, this was a dream scenario for the sprinters. What was not a dream scenario were the incredibly tight roads at the end. Eenkhoorn was leading the pack with 3km to go, but the rest of the train was caught way behind
Eventually Grosu found a way to bring Van Poppel closer to the front when the road got wider to try to fight a very well set up train by Lotto for Caleb Ewan
But neither Ewan nor Van Poppel would end up battling for today's win. CCC's Jakub Mareczko would take the win in a very close finish with Bol, who had to settle for a third second place in this Giro

After being the first blue jersey wearer, Simone Ravanelli's breakaway efforts would be rewarded with an even bigger prize. He was the strongest of the escapees today and just one of two to be able to held off the pack's comeback to claim a fantastic stage win for himself and his team
The pace in the pack was very high in the pack in the last half of the stage and this was not on Kruijswijk's liking. The Dutchman would end up being on the wrong side of a split in the pack in the last kilometres and ended up losing almost 1 minute and a half to the rest of the favorites
