Wow, I was hoping for a fair compromise, but this is just ASO licking Froome's butthole
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

The amount of hate for Froome in this thread would make me lose my faith in humanity. If I had any. FFS, you allow Froome to lose 90 seconds like he did today, and then you can wake up in the world in which the most popular rider, who's sprinter, can win because all of his opponents were taken down by "supporters". And information to those bringing up marathon at Beijing Olympics and other similar cases. You can't excuse wrong decision of jury, by other wrong decisions. Surely, we should try to make good decisions, even in the past some decisions in some similar circumstances were made wrong?
So it's okay to bend the rules whenever they feel like it? I have nothing against Froome but I do like seeing riders attempt to follow the rules, he had no excuse to start running up the road without his bike with him.
Well technically rules says you can run. You just need to finish with the bike.
You still need to have the bike with you when running but as I've said the rules are so poorly written that they can pretty much find a loophole in any of them. I'm not surprised they made this judgement but it would be nice if at some stage in the future we had some consistency but that is wishful thinking when it comes to this circus

It is very strange to see that some people blamed UCI "no decision" when TV motorcycle hit Van Avermaet on Clásica San Sebastián and again the decision for Froome.
Ask Van Avermaet what kind of decision he would have prefered ? Furthermore he could have win the race.
Today, UCI decision was appropriate for the cycling, for the race and for the riders. I hope it will be like that in the future. We want fair race, not a race with random events that stop you and break your bike.
Edit: And I am not a Sky fanboy, I never supported them.

I have returned for jus one sentence.
While i was even sad for Froome and what happened, this decision is total disgrace to the sport i love and shows more than anything that it is all just about money. I am done with this Tour, it is forever tarnished for me.
Cheers.

Froome just gets hate because Sky ruins the entertainment value of the Tour. Watching a US Postal style train is just extremely boring, because it's impossible to attack, making the races extremely predictable (except for incidents like today). TdF mountain stages are snooze fests compared to the Giro and Vuelta, where riders attack left and right on the mountain stages.
Froome get´s hate because he has the charisma of a wet paperback. Compared to people like Rodriguez, Contador, Nibali,
But i have to admit he has improved and has become a lot better in interacting with the other riders and the audience. |

I guess it's always cool to be in minority in terms of opinion. So it's easy to call everyone that's not on Froome's side in this case a hater. But the thing is that most people don't have problem with Froome, but UCI and it's inability to follow their own rules. |

Exactly. Also that most people hate the sky train much more. Froome's the reason that train exists, so the rest is a given!

So tell me something, if anybody remembers, it was either in the Beijing Olympics or Athens, a Brazilian, if I remember correctly, was leading the marathon by a huge margin. Then a fan pushed him down, he lost his rhythm and eventually finished 4th. No sympathy was given to that runner. How is this any different?
The UCI just make things up as they go
No, this is very different. Froome gets Mollemas time, but his own place, so if they were riding for medals he would have ended up with nothing. If the marathon would last for more days the unlucky guy would probably have gotten the time of the winner. Cycling is also another sport, because of the focus of being gentlemen, and noone would want the tour being decided on a single stage because of a spectator falling in front of the race.
This was of course a very difficult case for the jury; as all of the top GC guys did lose some time, so impossible to make it fair. They then look at the most obvious thing; that Froome and Porte would have followed Mollema to the line and thus gets the same time. At this point the best 3 loses a bit more time than the followers; but that gap is not big, and it would be impossible to make a fair new gap for all three to the others. I definitely think ASO has done the right thing today, even if harsh for many - who wants Froome as far behind as possible. If Froome had caused the crash himself he should blame himself, but when something else is to blame, Chris Froome shouldn't get punished. I am wondering what the forum would have said if Froome was the one getting away quickly with Mollema running far behind; if the same would have been written.

Hope Quintana lose his second place, he is so boring.
Annoyed Porte lost so much time on the puncture.
Looks so far like he is best after world's best Froome of course. |

This is total bullshit.
The incident was part of racing just like a mechanical or a flat tire.

Appropriate would've been not to DSQ Froome for taking a part of the race without his bike, and possibly give him the time of the chasing group.

I don't have anything against Froome and Porte same time as Mollema, it just wasn't a racing incident. But Froome still should get at least a fine for running. |

Just like a mechanical or a flat tire ? Well, but it was not.

What for?
Go and find UCI rules. Read. And find me the section that specifies he should be fined.
There is no such rule.

I was in a discussion with Trek Segafredo over this on Twitter before, I accused them on looking to take advantage of this on twitter because of the way they worded their tweet, before noth agreeing that the right cause of action would be to neutralise and allow Mollema the time he has gained but also keep Froome in yellow, as he was not a fault and their was nothing he could have done to avoid it. In the end the right decision was made and now barriers need to be laid out with 3km to go on every stage whether mountain or flat. I rewatched it and seen that the barriers came into force ith 400m to go which is just ridiculous for a stage like this.
